not really big on urbanization of all the things, i like seeing squirrels on the power lines, up to the point where they unwittingly become shunt resistors.

most of the jobs ive had have been solo gigs. the one where my boss was in another state was especially nice, most of my interaction was through the mail. though there are a few horror stories i have from the pawn shop i worked at, but those usually get moderated out. lets just say it involved a toxic boss and a lot of illegal activity, where reporting it could have got a lot of good people fired.

if apollo was learning how to crawl, then the current program will be learning how to walk. it will be some time before we can run. starship has legs if they can get it to work as advertised.

i used to keep a full cookie jar when my sister still lived nearby, mostly for my niece who routinely raided the jar. every time it got to the bottom id rummage around my pantry to see what i could make. chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and penult butter were my usual. more rarely snickerdoodles and sugar cookies. sometimes mom would find a crazy exotic cookie recipe (i refuse to ever attempt to make macrons again, that's 5 hours im never getting back and the results were inedible). of course when my sis got divorced and moved i just came to the conclusion that we just end up eating too many cookies and stopped doing it. one way to avoid eating junk food is to not fill your house with it. im running out of teeth.

im going to stop celebrating holidays, they are killing me. it usually takes me 3 or 4 months to get that sorted out. -
i propose we split the space-x thread into two. one for routine launches, and another for blowing stuff up.

i broke linux again. i noticed the 4k video playback was shoddy, made me question whether or not the os installed nvidia drivers. last distro i used had a convenient utility for this, but i couldn't find any indication that any driver was installed. so i was following instructions, on the debian wiki, for my distro, on how to install blob drivers. so i followed the instructions, and it said i had to reboot, so i did. and now i cant login. gg linux, you win this round.. i think the documentation was a little sparse in this case. i usually have the opposite problem with linux documentation in that a lot of man pages are extremely winded. the instructions for how to add non-free repos to apt was ambiguous, it just mentioned a file and a line of text. am i supposed to edit that line or paste it in? idk. after trying 3 different things and fixing a typo, then updating apt i was able to find the correct package and install it.. another thing linux documentation fails at is how to mittigate common problems. like when you have other drivers installed that you couldnt find previously, or when you have secure boot enabled, you cant just install things that arent signed, i though linux didnt do that shtick. im not sure which broke my install but im pretty sure both happened. im at the point where i can log in as root in recovery mode and have no idea how to undo what i did, other than installing windows 10. such a shame, it was doing so well up to this point.

sadie, the younger and thinner of my two cats was meowing out the window, she usually does this when she sees birds. of course there is this one big seagull in his usual spot on the building next door. this particular bird likes that particular spot for some reason and has been showing up there for over a year now. some debate has ensued about whether or not its the same bird. but it is a large bird, and the seagulls don't usually come inland, they usually stop at the fisheries and never leave. but it is always a very large gull and always in the same exact spot and its always just one. anyway its like streaming service for cats. -
i did get my steam deck, but im gonna need better reading glasses.

christmas is finally over. time to break out the bourbon and celebrate. -
battery ignition does kind of make sense though. only time i used a gas heater it had a pilot light. but these cause problems if the flame ever goes out, you can flood a room with gas and cause an explosion. i think they may have been discontinued due to safety codes. but a high voltage boost regulator that can do the same job and is like a 4 component affair, not really all that expensive. it can draw so little power as to not really need mains. there are plenty of situations where you need hot water but might not have continuous access to mains power (like in an rv or boat). you might also need power for the thermostat, but you can do that with a bimetallic strip and clockwork. i think all the off grid models use battery igniters now. here in se alaska we still use a lot of fuel oil heaters, which is what we were on before management installed heat pumps.

linux is starting to look better every day. expect a massive exodous. otherwise your pc experience will be as annoying as your smartphone experience. thats why everything is an app, so they can control the environment their web page runs in. the will of the user be damned. im gonna miss notepad++ and winamp. and i can kiss my somehow not expired 3dsmax 2014 license goodbye. maybe it will run in a vm under win7.

this ones got a battle of endor theme going on. its got a few clone wars a couple mandalorian and a few bad batch figures, but well over half are from the battle of endor. including one emperor palpatine in his death star christmas sweater, i don't remember that from the movie though, must be another edit. i for one run too hot to wear wool (especially since its going to be an asphalt colored christmas this year, and i live in alaska). im convinced the holiday season has something to do with proponents of the dark side.

picked up half a dozen tubes so far. never much use the stuff for its intended purpose. always dries out my hands. but i don't like dirty hands so i wash them frequently regardless. this is why my 2-year old keyboard is clean and moms has to be cleaned every 6 months. but it makes an impromptu burner fuel for when im doing a wiring harness and need to shrink a lot of heat shrink tubing. -

mom woke me up this morning because she was tearing the house apart looking for birthday candles. i had to inform her that they were too short to use for another birthday and we threw them away. she was angry because she wanted to roast marshmallows. then i introduced her to a life hack. take a coke can, turn it upside down, fill the base up with hand sanitizer (people are giving away their pandemic surplus), and light it on fire. you end up with a flame more than capable of roasting marshmallows and you can get 5-10 minutes of burn time out of it.
