An interesting challenge that I know is possible, but I would like to see it done. I will do it myself as soon as time allows (stupid college homework X.x). The task: Get a manned craft in orbit around Minmus, so that a brave Kerb can EVA, jet-pack down to Minmus, land on the ground, and then jet pack up to meet the ship and get back in. This should be an interesting challenge, as where you place your orbit will be tricky. If you place your ship orbit very close to Minmus, you are going to have a huge horizontal velocity your Kerb is going to have to climb back up to. Preferred screenshots for the challenge: One of your ship sitting on the launchpad, one of your ship in it's orbit around Minmus, one of your Kerb leaving the ship, one of your Kerb on the planet, and one of your Kerb re-entering the ship. Good luck! I'm not quite sure this is possible yet, but might as well try! A few quick terms and conditions: 1. Stock parts, mechjeb allowed. 2. Your ship must be in a full orbit, meaning it can go around Minmus infinitely if required. 3. Your ship has to be able to make the trip back to Kerbin. However, getting back to Kerbin is not really part of the challenge. Good luck!

I have a very good idea of a multi-stager which should break the records you guys are putting up. I'll be happy to try it, but stupid college with homework is getting in the way X.x

This has been a very commonly posted challenge at various low altitudes. I mean, I'll give it another shot later tonight when I have time with the 0.16 parts, see if I can get anything. Going based on your post, are we allowed to strip parts? I mean, I could design a rocket that gets itself going fast, strips eveything but a tank and turbospike booster and goes until it reaches new max speed. I'll post results in about 2-3 hours.

[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.17 Discussion Thread 2
Stevenator1 replied to kacperrutka26's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I might be a slowpoke on this, but has anybody heard if atmospheric heat will be introduced in 0.17? That will completely change the dynamics of the game, it will be insane. And, you know, redesigning the lift system possibly? And I can't imagine Spud's SOI is very large. I could do some calculations, but I'm very busy ATM -
Land on Minmus with no landing gear
Stevenator1 replied to mulimulix's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Blargh exploits rabble rabble rabble. -
As far as what I thought, that is the mars parallel. From what I could tell from the stream, Charr is a completely different, bright lava filled planet, where Mars is just rust-based.

Orbiter!! Still play it too, but not as much. Now I have a, uh... I think they call it a life.

Separate VTOL and Main Engine Throttles?
Stevenator1 replied to liquidmoose's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Though that isn\'t currently possible, I believe that a plugin could be designed for it. Ask CardboardBoxProcessor nicely -
Longest distance travelled by air?
Stevenator1 replied to WeedyG88's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
This thread (as well as the rest of the challenges for longest distance in atmosphere) simply will not work. The 'infinite glide' glitch can not be prevented at this time. The drag equations are simply incorrect, meaning any plane (or glider) could be using the glitch partially, or completely. Point being, the challenge is invalid, because any plane with any parts that affect drag (all of them) consists as 'cheating', because all of them are taking advantage of drag in one way or another. -
Though I knew of this procedure, I highly enjoy the example you used. By applying a constant force towards the center of gravity, you are 'simulating' more gravity on your craft, therefore requiring a higher orbital speed to keep the same orbit. That is an interesting phenomenon, if you could create a mod that allowed thrusters to constantly fire in a direction with solar power, you could alter the height required for a geosynchronous orbit, based on how much thrust you apply. In other, completely unrelated news. Watching the Roast of William Shatner. Absolutely priceless this is.

[SPOILERS] MUN's north pole, glitch or intentional?
Stevenator1 replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This requires... A MINING EXPEDITION.... ON THE MUUUUUUUN, BEEEEIIIIITTTCCCHHHH!! I\'m sorry for the capslock swearing rant, but there is a reference there. And yeah.. That reference, for those of you (all of you) that don\'t get it: -
Build the biggest airplane (that can land)
Stevenator1 replied to kevinlacht's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Extra huge VTOL allowed? Though I understand landing a VTOL is a breeze, making a steady massive VTOL would be the challenge there. -
[SPOILERS] MUN's north pole, glitch or intentional?
Stevenator1 replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Vincent, are you sure that is the exact north pole? I remember that rough rocky terrain NEAR the north pole, but I remember exactly at the north pole there was a perfectly rectangular pyramid, standing at about 21 degrees on each face. In other news - I re-outfitted the Muninator IV with headlamps. I\'m doing another launch to put some light on the situation. -
Massive ships vs small, really simple ones
Stevenator1 replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Anyways, for a good example of Kosmos parts (even tough they are really overpowered/under massed) to get those massive stations into orbit, you need to have an exponentially larger delta v. -
I found the duration of a month on Kerbin
Stevenator1 replied to VincentMcConnell's topic in KSP1 Discussion
As Vincent had said, Kepler\'s laws don\'t change I verified his math, he is absolutely correct. On the other hand, why the hell is a day on the mission counter 24 hours? A day in kerbal-time is somewhere around the range of 6-7 hours (I\'ve been up for 40 hours, don\'t want to do math, so just observed it on map view). -
[SPOILERS] MUN's north pole, glitch or intentional?
Stevenator1 replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Aha! The Muninator IV is back, with definitive evidence of this pyramid. It is only on a 21 degree slope though. So I\'m probably going to go with graphics glitch. Sorry about the bad lighting, I never installed headlights on the Mininator IV. -

Suggestion: Possibility of Malfunctioning Parts?
Stevenator1 replied to DomAzaris1996's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Though it is interesting, I like the idea that Skunky had brought up a few days ago, of a 'campaign' style game. By doing more mining, researching, production, you can come up with more efficient, more reliable parts. Of course the sandbox phase of the game, giving perfect stats and perfectly reliable parts, would remain available. -
[SPOILERS] MUN's north pole, glitch or intentional?
Stevenator1 replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Same The arch is confirmed real, I thought that he was talking about the pyramid, which 3 brave Kerbanauts are currently on their journey to find. I have been working the past couple of days to actually build a base centered around that Arch -

[Collection] Kosmos Spacecraft Design Bureau (SSPP 4.1 6/12/12)
Stevenator1 replied to Normak's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Ah I never saw that, thank you. I would still like to petition him to (if he has to make a 2nd version, okay) make a balanced version that can be used for challenges and fair play. Though the asthetics are fantastic, I also highly enjoy mods that have fair playability to them. -
[Collection] Kosmos Spacecraft Design Bureau (SSPP 4.1 6/12/12)
Stevenator1 replied to Normak's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Not to be a party pooper- but does anybody besides me view this as a COMPLETELY unbalanced mod? If that is the design, ok then. But if this mod is made to be balanced - I shouldn\'t be able to get the LK large lander all the way into orbit, onto the Mun, and back. -
Supposedly in a future update, that will not work, for multiple reasons. First of all, there are rumors that jet fuel and rocket fuel will be separated, meaning that you can only use fuselage parts for jets, which carry significantly less fuel. Secondly, Some of those jets are designed to be scram jets, but the functionality of them hasn\'t been quite added into the game yet. Scram jets can\'t even start at low speed; you would have to get your rocket going fast, and THEN start the scram jets.

So say I wanted to do some music
Stevenator1 replied to TheDarthMoogle's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Assuming you can find the music hook, I will be happy to make some music for the game. I am a DJ and Producer, usually doing liquid trance-esque stuff. Just let me know if you want some stuff made. The nice thing about Trance is I can pull a halfway decent song out of my ass in 24 hours. -
May I have bonus points for doing this on Minmus instead?
