  1. Main changes are that you actually need to use heat shields for re-entry now since parachutes are no longer invincible instant deceleration force-feilds. The most important engine in the game, LV-N actually works now without blowing up after a couple minutes. Resource mining actually works now without overheating instantly. Its a little harder to get into orbit than it was in 1.0, but still much easier than .90 If all you built was planes maybe you never noticed the problems, but if you play it as a spaceprogram and not an airforce 1.0 was ridiculous. If they had them for a reason I don't know what that was. Maybe they spent all their time on bugs and forgot to actually play the game and see that basic gameplay was broken? In any case, the rapid course correction was exactly what they needed. I was *this* close to giving up on KSP when 1.02 came out but my first re-entry brought back all the good feelings I used to have.
  2. Good point. But the alternative is even more troubling, maybe the testers found the massive gameplay problems of 1.0, reported them, and nobody listened. Either way, something stinks in the QA pipeline. If 1.02 had been 1.0 the response would have been totally different. 1.0 it seems was actually the true beta. I also think its funny that they tried to spin 1.02 as just a hot patch when really it was 180º from 1.0 on many things. As usual, honesty solves most things. IF squad just came out and said, "Okay, we where totally off base with 1.0, sorry, we fixed it" all this criticism would stop overnight. (well, maybe not the SSTO guys but there no pleasing them)
  3. That WAS the problem with 1.0 as long as you had a parachute you couldn't die in reentry no matter what you did, heat shields or no. At least in 1.02 you can blow up if you come in too steep.
  4. I had a little trouble with rockets tumbling but then I put fins on them (never needed them in .90) and all is good, and now that I've had a few days with 1.02 I don't even need fins any more. I find its best to turn about 5º east immediately at launch and then at about 10k throttle down until you are barely accelerating and the nose will just tip right over nice and slow, by the time it reaches 45 you should be high enough to be out of the danger zone and you can go max thrust and aim for the horizon. If your rocket is built right you can do this all without SAS or maneuvers, (except the first 5º turn), just let gravity swing you around and use the throttle to control heading. BTW, I think your problem with that first rocket is the massive fairing at the nose. That thing is huge and will cause a lot of drag. The idea with fairings is to fit them as close as possible to your payload, I don't even worry about a pointy nose, blunt is fine, maybe even better, and if you look at real life rockets they almost all have round noses, not points.
  5. Mark 3 jet fuel engines are plenty big and look good. I expect to see some new nuke fuel tanks show up at some point though.
  6. I like it, but squad was wise to give people who don't like it the option to turn it off. Unlike the new mouse cursor that you seem to be stuck with.
  7. That is exactly how 1.0 made me feel, but 1.02 changed all that and I'm excited about Kerbal again.
  8. I've harvested gobs of science. I have a lab int Kerbin orbit, one in mun orbit, mun surface, and the same for minmus and I've pulled out 2-3k worth of science from each of them. Just fill each up with 500 data and reap the rewards, and you still get to keep the science from transmitting so its a win-win. If anything science labs are overpowered.
  9. Thats my position. We do we need incredibly unrealistic airplanes for Kerbal to work right? Correct me if I'm wrong but the big complaint is that people can't build things that are impossible to build in real life? Maybe instead of screwing with the aero just make a "fusion powered ramjet engine" or something equally silly and just pretend that its advanced technology that actually allows SSTO's to work. That way the physics don't have to be broken but people who just want to play space fighter still can.
  10. I can forgive anyone for not finding technical bugs, those are tricky and you may not even see them. But the massive gameplay problems like the parachutes, mining overheating, and LV-N heat issues are/where ridiculous, anybody who tried to use those features even once should have been able to see they where badly in need of fixing. Q&A needs to be thrown under the bus so that they way it works can be re-evaulated because it failed badly with 1.0 and it seems that only the mass consumer outcry gave us 1.02, which BTW, is fantastic.
  11. Its still about 200% better than they where with 1.0 At least you can use them now, you just have to spread them out so the heat has somewhere to go.
  12. I think 1.02 is fantastic, its the game I've been wanting Kerbal to become for years. There is a good reason we don't have any SSTO's in real life, the aren't possible with conventional technology. People should just be glad they can make them at all in Kerbal instead of complaining that their old designs don't work.
  13. Maybe what some people really need is Kerbal Airplane program so they will stop complaining and let the rest of us fly our semi-realistic rockets in peace.
  14. Thats true. But I'm so happy we have a realistic re-entry model at all now I won't complain.
  15. Well, it seems like it should be pretty hard to get something that size supersonic. I don't believe there are any real world craft close to that size that go super sonic in powered flight, other than the space shuttle (RIP) which was rocket powered.
  16. I think it much better now in 1.02. As unhappy as I was with 1.0 I'm that much more happy with 1.02. Its like night and day, 1.0 was badly broken, 1.02 feels like a whole different and much better game.
  17. I'll say it right now, there is more difference between 1.02 and 1.00 than there was between .90 and 1.0 I don't know what they where thinking when they released 1.0 but they more than made up for it with 1.02. THIS IS THE GAME I WANTED!! that sick feeling that my first 1.0 re-entry gave me is gone with my first 1.02 re-entry. Pop the chute going 2kms? instantly destroyed. Wait another minute and watch the speed fall to 300ms? pop the chute and enjoy an new slow opening with no insane G forces. Thank you guys, you listened and you fixed it, and you did it in just a few days. For all the people who where asking why people where so critical of 1.0 this is the answer, because it wasn't right. 1.02 however is what I was expecting.
  18. This is a 2012 mac.Where would you start making cuts when it comes to settings? System specs are 2.5 Ghz intel i5, graphics Intel HD 4000 1024 MB
  19. I turned it down slightly but I love it overall.
  20. I've had Kerbal for over a year and as far as I can tell its never worked even once.
  21. I would like us to have both but it seems Squad has trouble pulling that off. Don't ask me why, I'm not a programmer, but it seems that the aero model that works for rockets doesn't work for planes and vice versa.
  22. Yeah, sorry about that, all you have to do is mouse over the 1.01 version of your choice, copy the link from the pop up window and and then change it to to 1-0-2. - - - Updated - - - This is America, land of the horrible internet and no choices.
  23. Its nothing compared to the 1.0 release where you basically had to hack your DNS in order to even get to the store.
  24. Then why are you building airplanes? Sorry, I know this is not helpful but it seems the airplane people are constantly trying to make the game about them, which is fine I guess but I only spend about 1% of my kerbal time in the soup. I would rather have rockets work fine than airplanes that work and rockets that don't. If they can pull off both, fine.
  25. I beg to differ, it sounds like they are fixing major gameplay issues that made most of the changes in 1.0 unplayable. Indestructible parachutes and parts that overheat rapidly with no way to cool them are a big deal.
