  1. Gaarst, I'm seriously puzzled by the fact that you reproduced the bug by "adding* wheels, but okay The increased suspension travel was something I plugged in intentionally, so it rides a little high when unloaded or lightly- loaded. I may be able to tweak that out. Thanks, -Slashy
  2. Gaarst, Yeah, it's definitely strange, but par for the course with so many different platforms. For me, the way to reproduce the failure is to simply spawn anything with the LY-01 gear, sit back, and watch the Kraken feast. Others have reported the same problem with the LY-05, but that works fine for me *shrug*. I have my doubts that you'll ever see this problem, but I have noticed that it gets worse with increasing weight on the gear. Maybe try ridiculously overloading the gear and see if silly things start happening? Best, -Slashy
  3. Not with you, no. So if you'll excuse me, I'll get back to work looking for a solution to a problem you don't believe exists, but still feel the need to comment on.
  4. Gaarst, Thanks, but I'm thinking this may be a bug that doesn't hit everybody. If you didn't see it right off the bat, you're probably immune. Still... I'm thankful for whatever help you can offer! -Slashy
  5. Gee, thanks Any more useless advice to pass on about a bug you are totally unfamiliar with, or is that it?
  6. There seems to be 2 completely different bugs at work. The one I'm talking about is different. The "skittering" problem I'm talking about is where the vehicle spawns, the wheels vibrate, and the craft drifts around on the surface/ bounces/ flips/ explodes before you even get it moving. Best, -Slashy
  7. It *is* in the bug report forum. Squad doesn't have a fix for it. That's why I'm working to come up with one.
  8. Well bully for you I can also use the tier 1 runway now that I have fixed the problem *I* was seeing. Clearly it's not the same as your problem (or lack thereof), because in my case the runway didn't matter. The craft would spawn, skitter around, flip inverted, and explode. This is *before* it started rolling. If you haven't seen this happen yourself, then you have no frame of reference to comment on this problem.
  9. I'm certain the wheels are not "fine". I think you're just not experiencing the same phenomenon that others are reporting. You'd definitely know it if you were. Best, -Slashy
  10. Alshain, It's a completely different problem. Upon spawning, the wheel vibrates rapidly between clipping into the surface and fully compressing. The vessel slides around on the surface and bounces, possibly flipping the craft. It is impossible to hold the craft still, even with parking brakes engaged. That's what I refer to as "skittering". I have not experienced the problem in your video. Best, -Slashy
  11. regex, This may vary according to user. Before I started playing with the gear settings, the LY-01 was completely useless to me no matter what I tried to do with it. I've seen others report no problems. Best, -Slashy
  12. All, I'm trying a new fix for the gear skittering problem. If you have a moment, please give it a go and report back your results. Thanks, -Slashy
  13. It lowers the damper ratio to .3, reduces the spring ratio to 20, and increases the suspension travel to .2m. Best, -Slashy
  14. All, This adjustment to the .cfg file seems to eliminate the skittering problem with the stock LY-01 gear. Please download it and temporarily replace the existing .cfg file to see if it works for you. Rename your stock .cfg file, but do not delete it! http://wikisend.com/download/102902/GearFixed.cfg Please report your findings back to this thread so we can see if we're making progress. Best, -Slashy
  15. Yeah, that attempt is unfortunately a bust. I'm still experimenting with .cfg edits to make the gear behave, but I have it on good authority that the problem is in Unity. Best, -Slashy
  16. Hmm... I'll have to give that a shot. I've been playing with the distance, offset, and target position on the LY-01. I've stopped the jitterbugging for light loads, but not heavy ones. Best, -Slashy
  17. bewing, Thanks for testing it out. I'll accept "no" for an answer Are you experiencing jitterbugging with anything except the fixed gear? I've seen bug reports for other gear, but can't reproduce them myself. Best, -Slashy
  18. *update* The only gear I can reproduce the failure mode with is the fixed gear. All the rest seem to be fine.
  19. Swapping these values didn't fix the steerable nose gear for me, but it worked for the fixed gear. This is good info. Do you have the source? I'd like to look at the other values Best, -Slashy
  20. I'm just getting started myself, but so far my results indicate that targetPosition cannot be greater than suspension distance. Still experimenting...
  21. All, I think I have a fix for this. Looking for volunteers to help test it out! -Slashy
  22. All, I suspect that the wheel collision problem (craft skittering/ flipping/ wheels exploding/ etc) is due to a transcription error in the .cfg files or coding. I swapped the suspension distance and position values in the .cfg file for the fixed gear and the problem disappeared. I would like others to try this fix for various wheels and see if it also solves their problem. Be sure to keep accurate notes of the original suspension values so you don't get hosed up. Please report your results here (good or bad) so we can take it to Squad for a hot fix. Or... you know... not (depending on how it goes) Thanks! -Slashy
  23. KAL9000, Basically this: I start with the environment to determine how much mass 1 engine can lift. Then I use the reverse rocket equation and DV requirement to determine how much payload can be handled by a single engine. From that, I extrapolate how many engines are required. With that, I use the reverse rocket equation to pin down exactly how much fuel and tankage is required for the stage. Finally, I estimate total stage mass and cost. This is done simultaneously for all engines and the results are placed in tabulated form with table filtering to highlight the best options. Best, -Slashy
