Thats exactly what we needed thank you ill send it to the right people. - - - Updated - - - I wouldn't worry and like i said we dont know what 1.1 is going to fully give us so we will cross that bridge when we come to it. As is i run dozens of mods and thats with the x32 limit and ATM installed. Higher res does not always make the mod better for example look at KSO i really look up to their work and made a very beautiful mod without destroying ram consumption even with all the addon packs.
-
Until 1.1 is actually out everything is pure speculation. But know that we will QA test the mod before release by more than one person so we will definitely take feedback from dev builds and make sure the average user can enjoy the mod. Also kerbal downscales textures on its own and unity 5 i believe improves on that so your quality may be reflected on how high your graphics settings are. Like i said we wont really know until it is here but i wouldn't worry the mod will be vividly tested by more than one selection of computer hardware. Personally i will test it and i only have a Nvidia 670 and a AMD FX 8350 which is not the most beast of a rig more of a medium at this point when it comes to kerbal system requirements.
-
We are trying to up the resolution on textures but honestly soon as the next kerbal patch drops we will be on unity 5 where we have x64 and better lighting and reflections to work with. Ill see what we can do on the current system but when that new patch drops i am expecting the appearance of this mod to really improve more than it already is.

Alright gents here is where we need the community in helping us add to this project. We need pictures of the various different SRB paint jobs over the years and the various shuttle paint jobs over the years. If you can find pictures that will be easier for us to turn into textures great if not pictures along will give us a general idea. As im sure you all know the SRB's had many paint jobs after refurbishment so we are trying to adapt those as interchangeable textures.

Ultimately the project got too big for one man to handle alone. It was a joint decision to reform as a team to better load balance issues and work towards bringing this mod to full release. With just mike doing nearly everything the project would have taken too long to ever actually get done and it was a bit stressful. After the efforts of today im extremely confident in our expanded team and plans to get the SSP (formerly CSS) project to full release. So what does this change mean for everyone? It means updates will roll out more polished and with either more content or more refined content without going through the 1 step forward 2 steps back issues that did tend to happen. Also news and information will flow a little more smoothly, the blog is going to be updated often and when we release WIP pictures we want to make sure it is of things that are near release so nobody gets their hopes up. Nobody is upset and everyone is working together which will only bring us positive results.
-
To be clear Mike is actually part of the team he will be able to see these applications when we review them so nobody's previous efforts will be forgotten. This is not a new mod from Mikes we just restructured the team to be far more efficient and not lay so much work on one man. Here is a statement regarding the state of the mod: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/entries/3715-State-of-the-Program Hopefully this will get everyone up to speed specially those who may have been confused with the closure of the old thread.

Space Shuttle Pack for ksp 1.0.4 dev thread
daedaelus replied to Mike-NZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Im sorry of my absence i have had personal issues to deal with. I understand your feeling overwhelmed but you are taking on a lot of tasks at once. It may be worth focusing on one task at a time. I wish i knew more about modding and configs or i would gladly help you with the shuttle. I have little experience or knowledge in really anything else. Along with personal reasons i took a step back as there where so many other projects being tasked that i had very little knowledge about. It may be worth taking a seat on so many projects and focus on one at a time. If you wish i would be glad to PR for you so you are not overwhelmed on the forums. You have me on skype feel free to contact me at any time. I do beg of you not to abandoned the shuttle. Other modders have been working on orions, CST and of course many progress/soyuz what has always been needed is the shuttle. It is getting better and better the shuttle is fully at a point to where it is usable in nearly every way. You dont need to make every adapter ever designed by NASA lets be fair here this is kerbal half the fun is creating your own payload launch and setting it up in the cargo hold. I have done this since the rocket2gunz edition. A large docking port at the back of the payload bay and build from there. Here is an idea to maybe balance your work. Make a stawpoll on what people want to see most. Let everyone vote on what they want to see then focus on each project based on the straw poll. Your an extremely talented modder mike but you take on projects that usually have teams. KSO has a team and thats a collection of 2 shuttle types and space station parts, you have exceeded that greatly. I will be glad to help you manage community outreach i do it for a living. As for the community some basic things i think we might need is some documentation like KSO has to help people using this mod understand it since it is so complex. Before you throw in the towel take a breather. Let the community relax with their demands. -
Space Shuttle Pack for ksp 1.0.4 dev thread
daedaelus replied to Mike-NZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
NASA distributes all content for educational use. NASA is also funded by the government as such there is no copyright issue. I like KSS (Kerbal Shuttle System it is easy to remember and does not overlap with KSO. -
Space Shuttle Pack for ksp 1.0.4 dev thread
daedaelus replied to Mike-NZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
This is a development thread so nothing is finalized. Once Mike feels everything is good to go im sure it will be packaged up in a better format with the proper documentation for new users. Right now this is a WIP and your experience with the mod may deviate until completion. However reporting bugs is the biggest thing right now, i have been doing some extensive testing but since this is now a open beta the more reported the more mike knows about and fixes. -

Rocket2guns is Dean Hall the creator of the game DayZ i follow him on twitter and before he was a game designer he made kerbal mods. He also made space engineers mods. He now runs his own game development studio so i would imagine thats why he never kept up with the mod. Dean has been a very big supporter of open modding and i think he would be proud of your work. When its all done we should tweet it to him, im sure he will be proud. -
Thats what they wanted but Nixon did not want to front the cost for a wider VAB so they settled for less due to cost. The Shuttle VAB is the same building that launched the apollo's it was just modified but the width of the building did not change. The reason for the shuttle program was to cut costs as a reusable ship (it dident turn out that way) but the NASA shuttle was limited on its wingspan. Like i showed in the pictures above the Buran could fly with turbofans and eventually was planned to have them. The NASA shuttle was a glider nothing more. On youtube watch the space shuttle documentary narrated by willam shatner and you will see the stages of them building the shuttle and the limitations. Originally the NASA shuttle wanted turbofans that would come out of the OMS pods but once again... $$$ Russia went all out and improved on the shuttle design. The USSR always wanted to one up the US and with the shuttle they did.
-
As the NASA shuttle flew like a brick it was because the wing span was narrowed so it could fit in the former Saturn V VAB (Thanks Nixon). Russia however did not have that limitation and was able to have a slightly wider wingspan. This is why they could fly it with turbofans. It did not fly like a brick as much as the NASA one did. The eventual goal was to have turbo fans on the Buran so it could transport itself to any runway in the world. It could ultimately act like a plane if it wanted too. Another amazing victory of Russian engineering. The NASA shuttle could not obtain lift off from a runway which is why its areo test was done on the back of a 747. Also this was a concept art of the final design of the intagrated turbofan engines
-
Are you planning to add or include the turbofan engines?
-
Please don't misunderstand my comment as insensitive i highly respect the Russian space program and feel it has definitely made its name. My point is that early on the Buran was not as public as NASA put their shuttle out to be in the beginning. It also only flew once which is a shame. The Russian Buran was known to exceed nearly every spec of the NASA shuttle which is an amazing task. It could haul more, it could handle higher temperatures, it could fly itself and eventually it was planned to have atmospheric engines to allow it to land nearly anywhere in the world or transport itself back to its home base (removing the need for the Antonov 225) and finally to top it off it used LFO instead of solid fuel on energia which was more efficient and safe. What an amazing spacecraft and if Russia was able to continue the project i feel it would have paved the way for the next generation of space shuttles.
-
I think he was referring to the Russian Federation to distinguish the difference between it and the USSR. Far as i understand the Russian Federation never took ownership of the Buran it died when the USSR dissolved.
-
The 2 unfinished shuttles have been sitting in a rotting hanger since the late 80's i do not think they would ever fly. The one working shuttle that flew once was destroyed when the hanger collapsed. Kudos to you decq. The NASA shuttle was a open project everyone saw and could learn about. The USSR was not so forthcoming with their "military" aircraft. The original plans where even lost during the fall of the USSR so i really commend you on your work in getting such great accuracy and detail on a very secretive (and historical) orbiter. Im looking forward to using your mod when its released.

Mike i just want to throw this out there. Many dont talk on the on the fourms however numbers speak for themselves about how many are enjoying this mod. Kerbalstuff has over 2,300 downloads of 1.6 that does not include this threads links. People are loving your work im glad you decided to carry on. Im just a researcher with no modding experance but im here if you need anything.
