  1. I build space stations, moon bases and space planes, take pictures of them, post them on these boards and get all kinds of rep. So basically I do it for one reason - because I can & it's cool and fun (OK I guess that's three reasons). JR
  2. Don't like how fast your rover goes? I have two words for you "add rockets". JR
  3. Like many posters have said before, I've already gotten my money's worth out of this game so I'm not worried about Squad, I'm sure they'll do just fine. Besides, if they do just up and quit, the modders will take over and they've already developed all kinds of DLC that in some cases is as good as the core product. That alone could keep this going for years. Besides, Microsoft just paid $2.5 Billion for Minecraft, I think it's in Squad's best interest to keep pushing development of this product - I certainly could see this software having a valuation in the hundreds of millions at some point. If SQUAD ever offers an IPO I'd like to get in on that. JR
  4. Yeah, sorry about that I guess this \/ would have been a better picture to post... Over 40 launches (I like to launch and navigate all my base components at once) each one a unique craft with all kinds of details I have to fix including a nightmare of staging for each one before I share them out. I'll have a multitude of craft files available for download soon; you just need to have patience - not to mention I keep getting distracted by those awesome space planes JR EDIT: Also, I've never built any bases on eve before so I'm making it up as I go - I just landed a few probes and a glider or two. I'm hoping my builds will stand up to the test
  5. I had entered it in the last space plane competition, but when I was trying it out I realized it needed some improvements, so I tinkered with the build and it turned out great. I'm going to post the updated version in a little while - a lot of the crafts pictured need work... So many space planes, so little time! I would encourage anyone to post their designs, you never know when you might inspire someone. JR
  6. Wow that's an awesome build, I really like what you've done with the stock parts - very creative. I know the rovers and command modules are based on actual NASA hardware, but what about the landers? I've seen similar designs from KSP somewhere else but I don't think I've ever seen anything like that in the actual Mars exploration architecture. Good Job! JR
  7. My fleet is pretty diverse. Some of the stuff pictured here is experimental, but most have been to space and back successfully. All KSP images have been moved here. JR
  8. Nice design - and good idea for the cargo bay. If you add a small controller and RCS to the bay door it may be easier to dock (just a suggestion). JR
  9. I have been working on setting up another base - this one on Eve, and spending as much of my time as I have available launching and doing screen shots, and I wanted to point out that KandoKris has done a great job of building some improved Curved Passages and posted them HERE - I just though they should be referenced in this thread since it is devoted to that kind of stuff. In the mean time this is what I've been up to - launching rockets! (How ironic) All KSP images have been moved here. JR
  10. Influenced STAR WARS! LOL - You must have seen My Hangar... JR
  11. I'm glad you like it. Space planes are tough, I spent a lot of time trying to get this one right, but in the end it actually turned out exactly how I wanted it. There are so many great craft out there (I won't even try to keep up with Rune and Overfloater), it's hard to do something that people will like so I sort of did the opposite and turned the design around - the original idea actually came from an old sci-fi movie called the "The Last Starfighter". JR EDIT: I'm working on adding missiles
  12. Yeah I've been too busy with work lately to get much done in the game I really have been neglecting the Mun City thread... What you have there looks great Kris - pretty soon I'll be downloading your stuff to add to my colonies! ... but seriously, I'd like to know how you did your bendy connectors. JR
  13. Thanks, KandoKris posted a link to the thread where I put most of the craft files - it looks like he's having fun with some of them as well JR EDIT: BTW, that's less than half of the fleet...
  14. To post your Imgur album you need to add the following code to your entry: [imgur]/NAQQV/embed#0[/imgur] You can go ahead an EDIT a post that you have already submitted as well. Also a link to the craft file would be great. Very nice ship, I've added your Imgur album below (in case you don't get to it right away folks can see what you've accomplished): The above is scarknee's submission. JR
  15. When was this updated? Is anyone still working on this? JR
  16. ...Or maybe it's a self-destruct button! All rockets have a self-destruct button, if you don't believe me ask Elon musk! JR
  17. It's the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Looks like you're working on the VTOL version used by the US Marines. Can't wait to see it finished. JR
  18. I always want to create something different yet useful out of stock parts. I've been thinking about this reverse V space plane design for a while and decided to try it out - as I tested it I realized that it made a great platform for a VTOL, so I played around with it and the end result turned out pretty awesome so I decided to share it. The craft has seating capacity for 2 Kerbals so it can be used for crew transfers or rescue, and there's more than enough fuel to use the vertical thrusters for easy landings. It actually flies better as a VTOL once most of the fuel is burned up. I call it VECTOR. The default setup is for a short take-off since it is rather unstable fully fueled, and generally when you're heading for space it's best to not waste fuel messing around, just head straight out to space. This is an earlier version of the design without the take-off engines; it actually works better as a VTOL. I also added more RCS, and a controller so that it could fly without a pilot as a crew return vehicle. I was easily able to doc it with my Kerbin Central Station and do a crew swap. You can see another more conventional space plane docked at the other end of the station. You will need to pilot it fairly aggressively in order to get into space, the single Nuke rocket engine is a little under powered, but extremely efficient. I'm not the greatest space plane pilot but I was able to consistently get to orbit by following the steps below: 1) Toggle on RCS and SAS (R & T), throttle up to full, and hit space to start both sets of jet engines. It should take off nice and clean in the first third of the run way and flies very nice. 2) Once in stable flight bring up the landing gear and nose up to about 40 degrees - keep both the takeoff and forward jets active during this phase it will get you through the thick lower atmosphere quickly and efficiently. Toggle off the RCS at this point - you should only need it during take-off, landing and docking. 3) At 10KM altitude hit Hot key 1 to toggle off the landing jets, and nose down to just below 20 degrees. This will drop your pro-grade vector to just above the horizon while you accelerate toward orbital speed. 4) Let the ship accelerate - you'll get the urge to mess with the settings but you should just let it gain speed. The ship will slowly nose up and your pro-grade marker will rise as you round Kerbin - just let it go. 5) When your intake air drops to .20 hit the space bar to engage the nuclear rocket engine. You'll need a surface speed of at least 1400m/s before disabling the jet engines in order to make orbit. 6) When the intake air drops to .05 hit Hotkey 2 to toggle off the main jet engines. 7) Nose up to 45 degrees and allow your ship to continue to accelerate until your apoapsis hits 75KM 8) Set a manouver node at apoapsis and continue to burn with the nuclear engine into orbit. Once in orbit the nuke engine is very efficient and I was able to dock with my space station no problem. I've added a fare bit of RCS, but it gets used up rather quickly during takeoff and landing because I enable extra nozzles to keep the craft under control under vertical thrust. I'll leave the landings up to you, but I can say this is one of the easiest space planes to land that I have ever flown. Because of the radical design, it is a bit unstable at times and has a tendency to flip if you try turning too quickly, but with the RCS and vertical jets I haven't had any issues getting it back under control during flight. The hot keys are: 1 - Toggle vertical take-off jets 2 - Toggle forward thrust jet engines 3 - Toggle nuclear rocket engine 4 - Toggle ladder (These descriptions are included in the craft file) Fully stock - Part count is exactly 100. JR
  19. How to make Dres interesting... Just to give you a taste of what I'm working up to, this is one of my bases on Dres... All KSP images have been moved here. This structure was launched and landed all in one piece as you see it here - all stock, no mods or cheats. JR
  20. Dres is actually a lot easier to get to than some of the other destinations like Eeloo or Moho which suffer from a small SOI like Dres but also require lots of delta-v due to the fact that they are farther out and inclined compared to Kerbin's orbit. As a matter of fact many people overlook Dres because there's nothing particularly unique or challenging about it. For me that represents the perfect opportunity to do something different to make it interesting... JR
  21. I have had trouble with multiple 3.25 diameter in-line decouplers not firing. It seems they are set up to only fire a single decoupler for that size. I don't think it's related to part count because I've seen it on several of my designs that weren't whackjob. JR
  22. Very cool plaque but there's only one problem... no female Kerbals! JR
  23. You have a matrix moon base - looks awesome! That must have been a lot of work. JR
  24. WOW Kris, I never thought to load it up like that - I'm floored! Nice job, I can't wait to see pic's of the battle JR
  25. That's because you ordered the rabbit stew.... Waiter there's a worm hole in my soup.
