Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition
NBZ replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
These two above entries are disqualified by the above rule since with the new aero, the payloads add lift, i.e. they are lifting bodies. You should make a note that the payload must be enclosed in stock fairings. -
[1.8.x] AutomatedScienceSampler - V1.3.5 - 18.10.2019
NBZ replied to SpaceTiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Any chance of updating this to 1.0. Playing without it is miserable! -
Can you think of any reason this would not show up on CKAN? Also, time for longer 1.25m Xenon, 1.25m Ore, and 2.5m Ore tanks?

The I <3 the ROUND-8 Challenge!
NBZ replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Here is my entry. It has 7.336 m/s Delta-V, so it should be able to go quite some places. All stock. 75 Round-8s. I'll try it out tomorrow. -
The I <3 the ROUND-8 Challenge!

The I <3 the ROUND-8 Challenge!
NBZ replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Why not a scoring based on number of Round-8s used or their percentage of total vessel weight? -
Wait, if this will disable all orbital base missions, there will only ever be ONE station! Will it always be in orbit around Kerbin, or will it chose other host bodies too? I would suggest replacing "Kerbal" with "Kerbin", and allowing one station for each body in the Kerbol system.

Ok. I changed it to a polynomial fit. Pop the following line into a spreadsheet with capacity in top left corner to get reasonable names for capacities between 10 and 2900: =LEFT("FL-R0",4+(A1<80))&ROUND((4.7849+0.0578139*A1+0.0000921861*A1^2)/(100^(A1>=750)),0) At least it makes it simple to add more tanks later. Examples:

A teeny 1/8 FL-R10 FL-R05 10 MP (Smallest!)

A tiny 1/4 FL-R10 FL-R06 20 MP

A quadruple FL-R10 FL-R33 320 MP

A 1/2 FL-R10 FL-R07 40 MP

10 times the FL-R25 FL-R7 2500 MP

An approximately 3/4 FL-R1 FL-R70 585 MP

A double FL-R10 FL-R16 160 MP

A double FL-R25 FL-R57 500 MP

A double FL-R1 FL-R3 1500 MP

50% larger FL-R25 Fl-R39 375 MP

50% larger FL-R1 FL-R2 1125 MP

Almost 4 times FL-1 FL-R9 2900 (Largest!)

I updated my post accordingly.

Yeah, that was "fairly soon". Hooray for the FL-T50. I've been needing that a lot. S3-1800. Oh, yes, there it is indeed. I was using R&S Capsuledyne's, and didn't even look for another. Maybe a perfectly hemispherical 1.25m tank with 2/3 of the FL-T100's fuel for use both as nose cone and bottom? Perfect for drop tanks. Also, you could expand both FTP and CCC to include RCS tanks. I'm not sure of (any logic in) the stacked tank naming scheme, but here are some ideas: Stack: FL-R1 RCS Tank: 750.0 MP – just overlay* a 1.25m-size (i.e. leaving a 0.625m wide band along the edge) yellow top and bottom FL-R39 RCS Tank: 375.0 MP – like R1, but half height with two rivets per gray plate [··] instead of four [::] FL-R25 RCS Tank: 250.0 MP – already CCC'd FL-R13 RCS Tank: 125.0 MP – like CCC'd R25, but half height with just a single centered yellow band instead of two. FL-R10 RCS Tank: 80.0 MP – as is, just overlay red top instead of stock beige(!) FL-R07 RCS Tank: 40.0 MP – like R10, but half height with all-yellow side. Radial: Stratus-V Conified Monopropellant Tank 60: Like Aerodynamic Nose Cone but styled like FL-R10; white with yellow band Stratus-V Cylindrified Monopropellant Tank: 150 – leave as-is Stratus-V Roundified Monopropellant Tank: 60 – leave as-is Stratus-V Bulgified Monopropellant Tank: 20 – top half of a Roundified, but with the mounting reduced to a ring, both surface attachable and with a bottom 0.625m node for use as a nose cone. *Or, if you are feeling up to redoing the model; add a recessed 1.25m plate to match the style of R25 and R13.

I naively think it is very easy to implement a new skin featuring: 100% transparent windows, window borders, title bars, buttons and input fields. All text matching "Est. Burn/Node in T" in font, size, and color. Tight line-spacing. Buttons and input fields just thin green outlines. Use only bold font to indicate selections/active states. Bonus for changing all solid triangles (◀▶▼) to be their outline equivalents (â—Ââ–·â–½) This would make MechJeb supply a highly customizable HUD with no need for any other HUDs.

I like where this is going, and think the time is ripe for "Probe Parts Plus". I'm sure I can come up with lots of ideas. Here are some: Distinguish Cube-80 from -18 (currently almost impossible in the menu): Add X reinforcements to all four sides of Cube-80 Make Cube-18 copper-colored Harmonize sizes: Shrink triangular tanks slightly, so the HECS's corners meet the wide sides and the Cube-18 has same width as the wide sides Shrink Cube-80 slightly, so it will be twice the width of a Cube-06, as if made of six M-2x2s [*]Harmonize edge reinforcements to match QBE (like Cube-18 is): Slim down Cube-80's Thicken Cube-06's and TriPanels' [*]Harmonize names to match Probodobodyne QBE (especially since amounts may change): Cube-06 → Probodobodyne QBS Small Cubic Tank Cube-18 → Probodobodyne QBM Medium Cubic Tank Cube-80 → Probodobodyne QBL Large Cubic Tank TriPanel-50 → Probodobodyne QBT Triangular Cubic Tank TriPanel-2800 → Probodobodyne QBT-X Triangular Cubic Xenon Tank [*]New parts: Probodobodyne QBB Cubic Battery, a Cube-18 sized battery holding 800 ElectricCharge with attachment nodes (Gray edges, black panels, vertical yellow stripe on two sides, Z-200's lightning icon centered on two sides, electrodes, top panel has ⊕ and ⊖ icons. revolutionary breakthrough (...) arranging multiple cells in a cubic containment structure FL-T50: (Rippled like the FL-T200. This should stay in FTP, not migrate to PPP.) twice as adorable Mk2-RXS Radial Mount Parachute: weighing 0.025 excellent for for soft-landing very little M-½x½ Structural Panel: (Dinkelstein's) twice as perfect for constructing all tiny things EAS-3 Disconnected Strut: Try to make it about the length and slant as the static visual of the EAS-4 in the menu. While just a broken-off EAS-4, the EAS-3 is equally useful as a walking cane and as landing leg for the tiniest probes. Surface Attachment Unit: (Kerbal Motion LLC) tiny surface-attachable foot with an ice screw (ModuleGrappleNode) , just long enough to reach over the edge if unit is centered on the tips of the triangular tanks, or on the sides of the cubic ones, or on the around the FL-T50... Imagine on the very tip of the EAS-3 here. AKA "The Skrew!" [*]Facilitate building: Add attachment nodes (and 3-way symmetry) to the tips of the triangular tanks Make all cubic tanks surface attachable

[1.4.1] Color Coded Canisters 2.0.1 (2018-03-14)
NBZ replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hi. I'm back after a few intense weeks of RL. I think I have spotted a general issue with (all?) your parts. When a cylinder is lit by a single distant lightsource (i.e. rocket in space), half of its curved surface will always be lit, and half will be in shadow. Which half is lit? The one end-plane and the 180° of curvature (sides) closest to the sun, with the dusk/dawn line on the curvature perpendicular to the end planes. This is true as long as the light source (sun) is outside of the cylinder's infinite continuation. If the rocket rotates so that the sun is within its infinite continuation, the entire structure will be dark, except for the end-plane facing the sun. Indeed, stock cylindrical tanks behave as expected. However, some of your new models exhibit quite impossible lighting patterns:- 356 replies

[1.4] SpaceY Heavy-Lifter Parts Pack v1.17.1 (2018-04-02)
NBZ replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
You should probably mention size in the description body text, as not every SpaceY fan may use CCC too (or be able to see colors). -
Yes, but if you just space out the rims, it will look like a stretched Oscar-B. That's why I suggest regular-sized tiles top and bottom, and very few rings in the middle.

Alternatively, you could use my scheme, but just place sides' red with gray, leaving only ends red. Yeah, and don't forget your dream of refreshing the 3.75m cluster... No rush. Your pace on all these mods is very impressive, considering that you probably have to manage both real life and occasional light saber duels...

I didn't mean to add another design, but as a replacement for the current Oscar-100 stock-alike. I think it looks too much like a stack of 3 stretched Oscar-Bs.- - - Updated - - - Makes a lot of sense.

The nose cones don't have bottom caps. The 1.25m tanks display their end caps in the menu, preventing benefit from the color coding. Tank names are confusing. FTP shouldn't be a manufacturer. This scheme would make it easy to understand which one matches stock too: Oscar-Juno Fuel Tank Oscar-100 Fuel Tank (but see points 5 and 6 below) Oscar-Vanguard Fuel Tank FL-T1200 Redstone Fuel Tank FL-T1200 Soyuz Fuel Tank FL-T1200 Fuel Tank (you can put a note about looking like Vega in the description text, if you want) Rockomax Antares-96 Fuel Tank Rockomax Atlas-96 Fuel Tank Rockomax Delta-96 Fuel Tank Rockomax Jumbo-96 Fuel Tank Kerbodyne Arianne-21600 Tank Kerbodyne S3-21600 Tank (you can put a note about looking like Falcon in the description text, if you want) Kerbodyne Titan-21600 Tank [*]Nose cone names should match tank names: Rockomax Antares Nose Cone Fuel Tank Rockomax Atlas Nose Cone Fuel Tank Rockomax Delta Nose Cone Fuel Tank Rockomax Jumbo Nose Cone Fuel Tank Kerbodyne Arianne Nose Cone Tank Kerbodyne S3 Nose Cone Tank (you can put a note about looking like Falcon in the description text, if you want) Kerbodyne Titan Nose Cone Tank [*]I think you should let all the current 0.625m tanks be 101.6 (eight times an Oscar-, not 100.0, and provide the stock-looking one (not the Juno and Vanguard designs) in several sizes, called Oscar-(2 × Size ÷ Oscar-'th letter of the alphabet: Oscar-D Fuel Tank (twice an Oscar-B, i.e. 25.5) Oscar-H Fuel Tank (four times an Oscar-B, i.e. 50.8) Oscar-P Fuel Tank (eight times an Oscar-B, i.e. 101.6) [*]But really, if 0.625m had a normal stock selection of tanks, Oscar-H would have been the tallest one, and FTP should only supply an Oscar-L (six times an Oscar-B, 1.5 × Oscar-H, i.e. 76.2). [*]I also think we could use smaller-than-smallest stock tanks in the sizes where they are missing; 0.625 and 3.75: Oscar-A Fuel Tank (half an Oscar- Kerbodyne S3-1800 Tank (half an S3-3600) [*]I have an idea about the design of Oscar tanks. Since no other tanks exist, you can take more freedom. I imagine just using the inner tank for structure, with a steel-squares-ring top and bottom for inter-tank. Oscar-A: Just a single row of Oscar-B tiles Oscar-D: Insert two rows worth of end-dome-red between the top and bottom rows of Oscar-B's tiles. Let the vertical bars continue over the red tank. Oscar-H: Insert six rows worth of tiles with vertical re-bars, and a single horizontal bar in the center. Oscar-L (if chosen): Insert 10 rows worth of tiles with vertical re-bars, and two horizontal bars distributed throughout the red. Oscar-P (if chosen): Insert 14 rows worth of tiles with vertical re-bars, and three horizontal bars distributed throughout the red.

Oscar-A Oscar-D Oscar-H
