  1. I really don't like capsed text in KER GUI. Can it be switched to normal case somehow?
  2. AlamoVampire: Autopilot means sort of robot that directly controls the craft. MJ includes autopilot features of course but it also has plenty of well-designed non-autopilot features for planning, predicting etc. "tell it what you want done, and it does it" point of view is quite limited.
  3. MJ is a great thing and I'm not agree with "autopilot" definition. It's a complex toolkit for measurements, calculation, planning. Also it's made quite professionally.
  4. Maybe someone find this useful... What it does: Backs up existing persistent.sfs or quicksave.sfs before game rewrites them. Backs up previous versions of craft files when saving crafts. Deletes old backups after reaching specified amount of them (you can specify -1 to prevent deleting). Optionally changes screenshot filenames from screenshot###.png to ksp_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.png to keep them always sorted. How to use: You need to launch game through this tool. Specify path to KSP.exe and press "Run KSP". All patches will be done in memory, nothing will be changed in game folder (except written backups). Note that tool doesn't depends of game code and so can work with any version of game while file names remains the same. Tool can be also started with /run command line key to skip GUI and start game immediately. Backed up quicksave or persistent file can be restored simply with Alt-F9. Previous versions of craft files saved as craftname_timestamp.bak. You should manually rename them to craftname.craft to restore. Limitations: Windows only (tested under Windows XP 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit). 32-bit version of game only. License (to match rules): http://pastebin.com/qiKSBb1R You can download tool here (mirror).
  5. I think maybe sloped surface and legs damaged during landing caused parts of craft to shift relative to each other so ladders become misaligned slightly. I had similar situation with my Eve lander, legs repairing helped in that case.
  6. That's my basic entry (i.e. one lap). Maybe will try for more somewhen later... Craft: ranger-2 Route: polar (south) Spd: 800-900 m/s (max 1105 m/s) Alt: 20-21km (max 22.8 km) Time: 1h 18m
  7. "Escorting" - - - Updated - - - Cool! Would be nice to see more
  8. That's my simple contribution. Craft: mini buzzer orbital, weight: 10.0 tons.
  9. Remember that your craft weighs 430 t * 1.7 = 730 tw on Eve. So if you using legs, put about 140 of them. Slowing down isn't big deal imho, legs can absorb speed, static weight is more important. I did not succeed to build custom legs that not walks on slope. For my 1600 t lander I found ideally flat area and precisely landed with MJ's autopilot.
  10. You can use Hyperedit to test your craft right on Eve. Also if you using landing legs, do not apply more than 5 tw per large stock leg and put enough chutes to limit landing speed to 10 m/s.
  11. My favorites: Andrew Hansen KerbalEssences Matthew Karr Nassault Wookiee And with pebblegarden's videos I did my first steps in KSP.
  12. Have you tried adjusting MJ's attitude controller? I'm usually set Tf to 1 for big crafts and it behaves much more calmer.
  13. I have suggestion for tiny LF engine with 10-15 kN thrust (but not so nerfed as LV-1). Maybe 25% of LV-909 or 50% 48-7S. Sometimes it's really needed (e.g. command seat lifters or miniature spaceplane). It would be nice complement for small jets.
  14. I noticed that several time during my 0.25 career. Mostly when approaching KSC, but once when obiting at 100 km. Sometimes KSC building even exploding due to this "collisions".
  15. Old good Windows versions from NT5 branch (e.g. 2000 and XP) are limiting process VA space (roughly speaking, usable memory) to 2 Gigs. For some reasons KSP can use even less (crashes at ~1800 Megs) which is enough for couple minutes of editing big craft in VAB. In low memory situations crashes are not only problem. Sometimes it shows creepy artifacts (I immediately push Alt+F4 at the first signs of them). Sometimes it breaks craft file or persistent save. Well, when KSP runs on NT6 most problems vanish. But wasteful manner of "modern" programming is not a reason for switching to NT6 completely (for me at least).
  16. BTW Badlands close to #bada55 too - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - This is normal grass for reference.
  17. I personally don't like anything from 0.90 career. Specifically, I think visual surveys should be tied to some visible landmarks or should not be at all. Observing nothing is boring and stupid. Meanwhile with weighty science instruments (Goos and Material labs) for low and high space around [X] missions becomes more interesting. - - - Updated - - - Oh, you mean contract type, not science itself. Anyway, I don't like current surveys.
  18. I think this deserves to be sticked. Really good and useful guide.
  19. Developing reusable technology is interesting objective for late career, I think. This also can make sense for stations (as fuel/equipment depots and assembly bases for interplanetary).
  20. I played with cute tiny MRS jets a little. Seems Bill enjoyed his journey.
