  1. You are right. It's 683t. So it was actually 600 tons of fuel burned from the Kerbin orbit which is about half the mass.
  2. Well... Seemed like a fun thing to do. I was somewhat optimistic thinking that really. I've been thinking of testing how using multiple docking ports to connect parts works so I decided to build something in the orbit. In the end I had a core part and two sets of four other parts to bring together. The tugs I used were a bad idea. I did use them until things got too laggy and the last part had extra RCS parts to be detached after docking. I really should have been careful with the part count... over 400 parts is not good for my computer. The whole thing had a mass of over 1200t in low Kerbin orbit of which I burned a bit under 400 tons while going for the Mun landing. The mass on surface right after landing was 863t. After quite some waiting the mass of the ship was at 1279t. I guess just slapping tanks together would have been a better idea. All the small parts I had there just for the fun of it really brought the part count up. The part count is the real limit here.
  3. I liked when we needed mobile lab to reset experiments. I considered that to be a lot better purpose for it than free science.
  4. I avoided this by having Kerbal Construction Time which has simulations built in. It's pretty expensive to run those simulations tho. Simple launch and 15 mins of simulation is nothing but multiple simulations in orbit of Duna would bankrupt my space program... Oh, and it's not like I'd stop playing KSP just because there's new version coming soon.
  5. Why do people always complain about finishing tech tree before going to Duna. It's not like the game forces you to do that. Try going to Mun and Minmus once and then head off to the other planets, makes it much more of a challenge than any settings (how much grind do you want) you can set in stock game. Of course now that we don't need research lab to reset experiments you can pretty much get all the science from Minmus in one trip (you probably won't have all the science parts tho). I should probably force myself not to use scientists to reset experiments...
  6. Even if this was possible I wouldn't call it stable as you'd hit Mun's SOI again after some orbits and either get flung back at Kerbin or to some other orbit.
  7. Important things when putting stuff in service bays: 1. Attach other rocket parts to bottom and top of the service bay first. Then you'll only have inside nodes left. 2. Do NOT use angle snap. Without it you don't need to roll stuff to get them inside. 3. Don't put anything even remotely close to the side walls and doors.
  8. You have very different friends than I do. I've been playing EVE online, Minecraft and various war games with my friends and we've always managed to work together for great things. DMP also showed us how much fun KSP can be until two of the Duna mission crafts suddenly exploded while docking. I'm very much waiting how the stock multiplayer turns out.
  9. Have to admit I was betting a lot on guesswork about what he was asking...
  10. Tested now, heat shields can definitely explode due to overheating before running out of ablator. At Kerbin you need to do something ridiculous to achieve this but at Eve and Jool it will be much easier due to interplanetary speeds.
  11. Definitely. Doesn't need to be a new vessel for the contracts. I've actually had small probes that had klaw and a couple of parachutes saving people from the orbit.
  12. Heat shields will happily explode as a first part if you give it a chance to heat enough //Edit Actually. Now that I thought about this it could be that the ablator just vanishes instantly if you're going too fast which is why it explodes. Think I'll have to do some testing once I get home.
  13. I tried aerobraking with a heat shield at Eve and exploded very fast... To me it seems the heat shield only helps at a very narrow area between "not heating enough to need one" to "exploding even with a heat shield".
  14. I was slightly bored and noticed ShadowZone challenged others in his video! Never done any sort of a challenge in KSP before but this was kinda fun. I went with pretty much my first idea for the craft tho, so there must be alot faster ways to do this still. OK... back to career then. Got an interplanetary comms network to build.
  15. Using Remote Tech mod you really need to use the built in flight computer to execute pre-planned maneuvers outside Kerbins SOI. Direct controls start getting a bit laggy already at Minmus. The fun thing with RT flight computer is that you can also cancel commands (staging and such) but the command had better have some delay if you expect the cancel-command to get there before the command is executed.
  16. If KSP is a game where you fly spacecrafts around then it's like you said. For others KSP might be more about designing and planning and the flying part is just a simulation to see if your creation actually works.
  17. Companies that have released multiple games still manage to leave a lot of bugs in their games. I assume one of the major problems with Squad is that they've been learning alot while building KSP and there's now plenty of old code that pretty much need to be rewritten completely to fix properly.
  18. I was planning to plant a flag in memory of every dead kerbal but I've actually managed to play the current career with no fatalities. I've been busy with rescue operations however.
  19. MY first thought as well. mk3 liquid fuel tanks do wonders with nukes.
  20. They are reworking the whole UI for Unity 5 so we can hope it gets better.
  21. This might be one of the major points for me too. I'm still dreaming about a space strategy/RTS game set in Honorverse with proper orbital mechanics.
  22. If the physx multihreading works in KSP 1.1 we should see some performance improvements. I'm not very optimistic on how well the unity 5 upgrade will happen on their first try.
  23. Finally intalled mechjeb for the first time. Haven't yet figured what to do with it but had to save a mechjeb module (with kerbal inside) from the Mun orbit.
  24. Forgetting to open solar panels for probes, wrong staging, why is there no thermometer on my lander, suddenly running out of electricity for having no solar panels, plenty of monopropellant but no RCS thrusters... You get the point. Should probably spend a few minutes on double checking important stuff (or at least see what engineers report says) before launching.
