I've finally managed to construct a craft having about 12 km/s of dV which is theoretically capable of taking off from Eve's sea level. To test that I hyper-edited it to Eve and tried the ascent. Well, in theory I should have entered the low Eve orbit but the ascent path was far from being optimal and thus my craft never reached the orbit. Since I know that 12 km/s should be enough, the only reason I could think of about my failure was about wrong ascent path. I reasoned, that since I make a gravity turn at about 9-10 km on Kerbin, I should make the turn at about 15 km on Eve. Anyway, either I'm too sloppy or I am missing something. So, the question is - is there any rule of thumb I should follow when making an ascent from a planet with atmosphere in general and on Eve in particular? I even tried MJ's ascent guidance and used it 'edit ascent path' option, but it gave me no clues about where should I really make a G-turn and how sharp it should be.

Adding structures onto KSC via modding possible?
cicatrix replied to cicatrix's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I know there's a mod, I'm simply interested about the concepts - how do I make one? -
Hi, I'd like to ask whether it is possible to add a structure (building) at the KSC compound through making an addon?

Rescue Missions with Tier 1 KSC
cicatrix replied to worir4's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Wait, I never actually hired them. They are free? -
I never lost a single Kerbal. If something fatal happens I revert/hit f9. I even backup my persistent and quick saves. No drama for me. Also I once had a vessel with 12 science Kerbal slaves landing on Moho and MJ couldn't autoland it. So I used infinite fuel and descended with a vertical speed of 0.5 m/s for 3 km. Took me several hours. It's been 7 Kerbin years. They're still there and I never get around to bring them back.

As one gets familiarized with history of space exploration, the true cost of every design aspect of modern rockets and spacecrafts becomes visible. All those findings, tests, failures, deaths even. Blindfolded experimentation by trial and error... all this I miss in KSP career. I realize that the REAL R&D work is probably impossible to implement right now, still, if anybody from the dev team cares, I would like to share what I think of it. When I play career I don't want go get an 'out of the box' rocket engine. I want it painfully and gradually developed from a makeshift canister of kerosene waiting to explode to a state-of-the-art reliable and powerful propulsion tool, then I want it upgraded, then retrofitted, etc. When it would be obvious that my current task requires a different form-factor, or a new type of propellant, or something else then the guys from R&D should take your money and start researching again providing you with a new prototype that I should test, blow-up a few times, etc. That's what I really miss in KSP.

Rescue Missions with Tier 1 KSC
cicatrix replied to worir4's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Although I would agree it's non-consistent, still it's soo much fun. And again - it gives you free Kerbals. -
Kerbonauts have their own propulsion called jet-pack. Just switch to Bill (default keys are [ or ]) activate it by pressing R and navigate towards your capsule using WASD/Shift/Ctrl. Once he is close to the hatch, a message fill appear, then press F to get the hold of it and then F again to get inside.

Devs have stated some time ago that no weapons would be present in the stock game. Ever. You can make a mod though. You can also bring an asteroid and drop it onto KSC.

Accidentally,

I was thinking of a memorial near MK1 at KSC where names of all killed Kerbals would be added as the game progresses. Written in golden letters on a black marble slab.

My computer turn off for no reason

Dry thermal grease can render cooling ineffective: So, disassembly might still be in order. -
Best orbit for a Jool Space Station
cicatrix replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you can do two aerobrakes (Jool + Laythe) the most logical thing would be to stay in Laythe's orbit. You can also slow down using Tylo for gravity assist and park your station near Tylo or in orbit close to Tylo's (though I was never able to actually use Tylo's gravity for orbit injection). -
Whay would real-life war spacecraft look like?
cicatrix replied to FishInferno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I wish they made a blockbuster movie about the war in time... Whole fleets disappearing and got excluded from the reality, some new forces appear out of nowhere, people's fates get constantly rewritten to a point they switch sides in the conflict. In the end, the whole space-time is torn, we see the protagonist and his girlfriend from the far future kissing before the whole world is dissolved into primordial chaos. -
Solid fuel it's a mix that carries its own oxidized within. It doesn't need any external oxidizer supply.

It's dust. Usually. -
Ability to use ladders to climb on platforms
cicatrix replied to Godot's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Actually, I reasoned that I only need ladders on Kerbin and Eve (never tested it on Tylo though). On any other body I can simply fly in using jetpacks. -

My computer turn off for no reason
cicatrix replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As it's been stated already it's overheating. Disassemble your CPU heat sink, clean the dust from the fan and the heatsink, apply a new fresh layer of thermal grease, re-assemble. (Don't do it yourself if you don't know what I'm talking about - take it to someone who knows) -
What would you want in the next update (0.90)?
cicatrix replied to EvilotionCR2's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Multi-screen support. Pleasepleaseplease -
You'll see it red-shifted and its luminosity will be weaker and weaker closing to zero. Then, it will disappear. I may be wrong, but as soon as its core passes through the event horizon, you'll see residual radiation from its center (where fusion reactions are taking place) and then, as the last escaping photon reaches you you would see nothing.

Whay would real-life war spacecraft look like?
cicatrix replied to FishInferno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That is quite an exciting thought because if both sides have the access to FTL travel (providing that FTL tech automatically assumes time travel) a war in space turns also to be a war in time. Now that's where things might get really f...d up beyond all repair. One causality paradox over another one, over the third one, an attempt to circumvent enemy plans in the past, a counter attempt, a counter-counter attempt... Well, I'm SOOO glad that time travel is currently considered impossible. -
Whay would real-life war spacecraft look like?
cicatrix replied to FishInferno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
While this might be true for the winning party it would be quite the opposite for the losing side. Kessler syndrome might be considered as a last resort option when everything else fails. If I feel that I'm losing the battle for space and I know that I will be vulnerable from space I would try to generate as much debris over my head as possible for protection if nothing else.
