  1. Definitely a very nice looking ship, and powerful as well. Too bad she never got to put those monstrous guns to work. At the very least Japan could have "surrendered" and allowed this beautiful ship to survive. Would've been a sight to see.

    Nighthunter%2BYamato.png

Although it is likely the navy would have never surrendered until being forced to if Yamato was never sunk or destroyed since she was planned to be beached.

  2. Ever since the introduction of Ore and my creation of liquid hydrogen, the only things I have built that went to space were either meant to land on planets and moons to drive around and harvest Ore, or be a test vehicle that never leaves LKO.

I suppose, but challenges like these tend to operate separate and independent to game changes and patches. The challenge is to circumnavigate Kerbin. One can do that with pretty much any version of KSP.

Think of how the aero and thermodynamics have changed though. It just isn't fair to compare people of two different game states under the same criteria when the same things wouldn't necessarily work with each other. That's why the Hall of Fame was created.

Well, if it's a workload issue, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I have a few challenges that haven't seen any activity for a month, and I'm not that worried. If somebody comes along and completes it, I have the e-mail notifications and I give the thread some attention.

I wouldn't worry about it. When somebody comes along, give them the love they deserve and a badge.

Hate to see you disappear Xannari. You made a great and fun challenge, and it will come back. Stick around. Nobody is pressuring you.

It's never a workload issue. I just don't think I'm cut out for transitioning between game patches, and I bet there are just loads of people wanting to sit in the big chair, so why not, I ask myself. They'll get the special nametag as well.

All too correct. The game should really be narrowed down to only a few hundred stars. There is no point in making it so big.

From a game design standpoint, this makes sense. No Man's Sky however, is more of an experiment, so do try to cut it some slack if you already haven't.

Yep. It's actually one of the three main paths that the player can take (trading, exploring, and fighting). There's mining, too.

I'm gonna be a merchant! I like the idea of a travelling merchant. That sounds nice.

Okay let's say you grant that concept,  what kind of acceleration and speed are we talking about to do straight line intercepts that evenight lunar orbits?

In the video I saw, the ship the size of a truck took off, aimed upwards, was in space in a few seconds, and then aimed at a space station, and flew straight at it.

No deacceleration burn, no indication that you can even orbit it just looked like once in space you just possibly float.

So let's grant a infinite delta v non reaction base mass less propulsuon, why not just use teleportation, Ifor you can travel faster than light, which is essentially  time travel, why not just cut to the chase and use a tardis..

Teleportation, even in a sci-fi sense, isn't possible. Warp is, granted they are taking a few liberties.

The main reason I'm not interested is after KSP I don't think I can play a "space"game in which you fly a infinite delta-v WWII dogfighter.

I'm sorry ,I just can't enjoy "aim at the sky to go into space, aim at a ship to go to that ship, aim at a planet to go to that planet.

I don't really expect the same level of detail as KSP, but being aware how orbital mechanics works to any degree has destroyed any enjoyment I get out of  WWII  flying in space

I can kinda see that, but I guess one thing to point out is that conventional methods of propulsion aren't used. It's more of a kind of warp drive thing that's very efficient.

From the first time I saw this game it got my interest. And as long as it is not pay2play or pay2win I am definitely willing to give it a try. If I'm actually willing to spend any money on it totally depends on the game itself.

I personally don't think it will be because there's technically no end to the game, although I wouldn't be surprised if there was premium content in later installations depending on the success of it's initial form, which appears to already be very popular. Anything can happen though.

  10. No Man's Sky finally got an official release date! This game is absolutely enormous, to understate. A completely open world-nay, open universe-to do whatever you desire in. Such a scale of a virtual world is possible thanks to procedural generation - A method of generating data algorithmically. As stated before, this game is going to be bigger than anything yet, and will take an uncountable amount of time to explore everything in the reality you exist in, which never takes into account every possibility that can exist [because let's face it, such a number would be incomprehensible in every respect of the word].

This could be pioneering a completely new method of gaming, being kind of like a simulation with elements of science fiction. It will also be a validity check for if the various interactions of various algorithms will be utile in the real world. What this game is at it's core, is lots and lots of math.

Is the hype train ready to roll, or am I just late?

  11. I really have been finding it impossible to tear myself away from World of Warships. Now that I finally have the Yamato, things may be a bit different. But anyway, yes, the grading. Let's see here... Oh god

Took three tries. The first crashed and killed the crew. The second crashed but the vehicle was (mostly) intact. The third was a complete success...

    Flight Time: 3 hours, 55 minutes (~270m/s at 10,000m)

    Circumnavigations: 1

    Circumnavigation%2001.png

    Circumnavigation%2006.png

Mount some guns on that thing and send it out to war. Looks qualified.

I can't say the same for the entry, however. Doesn't appear you have any engines that use internal oxidizer, but there's no clear view of the back of the aircraft. The two images were both taken on the runway, and there's nothing showing you on the other side of Kerbin.

Here's my humble entry!  Quickloaded near the end (so I could land on the runway), which is why the F3 screenshot doesn't show my proper distance.

    Steady as she goes.

Fairly low flyer, I have to say. Must be stressful staying near land all the time [subtle allusion to one circumnavigator we all know and love]. I would ask about the wings, but I've built more ridiculous nonsense in the past, so I don't get the privilege. At the very least I can give you compensation in the form of a badge:

That was a lot of fun, thanks for organizing this challenge. I decided to fly without assistance, not even SAS. The album below should be enough to earn the velocity badge? (Time is 56:06)

3rd image: Cruise? I don't think anyone's idea of "cruise" is to be on fire, unless you're Superman.

Well, par for the course. Don't really have a witty reply to this one... Give it time. Well, time is a spatial dimension. It is the series of an infinite number of 3 dimensional planes containing everything possible, which react like neurons to create the greatest illusion of all time; the illusion of control. In the sad reality, everything we do has been and is being determined by the basic growth dynamics of the universe.

Stay on topic, Xan! Right, okay. The criteria is met, so the reward will be given:  circumnavigator%2Bresized%2Bvelocity.png

Here is my submission for Kerbin circumnavigation.  I originally built a smaller craft that came close, but this is my first craft to successfully complete the journey.  The run had a close brush with the 30,000 ft ceiling, an eclipse, and some beautiful visuals courtesy of the visual pack remix from the linked post:

    Time: 1:08:13

    Circumnavigations: 1

I once made it a goal in my velocity entries to always thread the needle and pass up to 29999m. Yeah that never worked out.

Well, once again, pretty par for the course. It's like watching a Jingles video on battleship gameplay; you never really see anything spectacular until something starts going horribly wrong.

I'm going to forever contemplate whether I'm happy or sad that nothing went wrong here. Speaking of nothing going wrong:

Well my first attempt at something on the forums in a while then again I only really have done one other thing...

I hope you can understand that since I quickloaded after two landings were failed so I suppose speed distance etc. aren't correct and if I need to Ill fly it around kerbin again later.

Oh trust me, I have had to do far more quickloads than that. My velocity entries where I use a very fast parachute landing usually takes around 15 just to get the timing perfect.

Just barely didn't make the cut for a velocity entry. Closer calls have been made, but there is the 1hr minimum thing. I really really need to figure out criteria for a die-hard circumnavigator category, as well as a badge. Sounds like something to do when bored.

Speaking of criteria, it works, and it also sounds like something from Metroid [probably because it is]  circumnavigator%2Bresized.png

Originally, I made this "plane" for this challenge by @Geschosskopf. Unfortunately, I didn't make it all around in one go. Some say Nicole Kerman had to land because she had to go for little kerbals, others blame a mysterious force called RL. So technically, it doesn't qualify for this challenge, but I thought I'd enter it anyway. This is a great challenge and maybe there's somebody crazy persevering enough to make it in one leg.

Here's the link to the mission report: Powered by a Kerbal

Well needless to say this is one of the silliest things I've seen in quite a while. At least you get an honourable mention as "most crazy insane whacked out 'original'" Yeah we'll go with that...

I enter my "Frostburn MKII" plane and myself to the Circumnavigator challenge. It managed to go around Kerbin 1 time, haveing 4 Kerbals aboard. Total flight time was 1 h and 30 minutes. It landed on 0 fuel... but it's a plane, and nobody said anything that gliding the last few meters is forbidden :D

Find the pictures at imgur and staying true to my very own style of entering challenges. There is a video as well. The major flight has been speed up to 15 times regular speed, but I suggest to watch the landing, as it is... rather interesting :D

See you in the next challenge! Fly safe, and walk away from your landings!

The plane design totally looks like something Japan would build. Look up I-400 if you don't get it.

No argument here, cinematics can be important. I remember doing that on my Eve Rocks entry [still looks cool]

Now presenting: The sausage plane circumnavigation badge [I wish I had one of the former]

I decided to try my hand at the challenge with the JP-C Lance I made, managed to get one circumnavigation in just under an hour and land right back on the runway! I used Pilot Assistant, as I saw other had done so and didn't see that it was against the rules. This was my first real delve into atmospheric flight without leaving to orbit, so it was interesting!

*Not sure if the Imgur album tool is working. Link to album is here

[Why is everyone building cruise missiles?]

Whatever the answer, it appears you managed the velocity badge by a slim margin. I wonder how toasty the cockpit gets in there; certainly enough to warm some toast.

Roast or toast, at least you now boast a badge.

Wait, refueling is allowed?  Holy smokes, that changes *everything*.  That means I could park a bunch of refueling craft next to the runway, launch the real craft, go around half a dozen times, come down for a low pass, start up a refueling plane, etc...  This means I'd only be limited by the number of fuel planes and my own patience!

You could if you wanted to. Good luck though, you'll need it. If this becomes something that is actually attempted, I will be adding a new rule that will make doing this very irritating.

Since 1.0.5 brought about the new thermals, I guess it's time for a new submission.

Introducing the KART - Kerbin Aerial Rapid Transport , able to round the planet in in only 54 minutes and 23 seconds, enough time to have breakfast and come back for... brunch?

Proving once again that pretty and fast are still able to exist in harmony in this challenge, I suppose :D

Now if ONLY someone could support you by making a flying battleship.

Well at best it qualifies as a flying escorting fighter with no ammunition. Now I think I'm going to have to call to nearest 3D printing company to print more badges.

    Wasn't a good choice getting a 1-time shipment:  circumnavigator%2Bresized%2Bvelocity.png

  15. Well it appears I've confused everyone so hard to where they left, so here it is: Travelling at light speed.

You see photons at light speed, yet you yourself cannot move at light speed.

Time does not exist to a photon, so to it, it's velocity is infinity, yet it cannot move anywhere because no time has passed.

Time is perhaps just an illusion, but something that does not exist for any given amount of time to itself cannot know that.

If you are with a photon, to you, it and yourself no longer exist, yet have lived your lives to it's fullest.

    Okay, hope this time counts.

I was coming in to steep so I had to do a flyby.

1 Circumnavigation (almost two with sheer distance)

    5 Hours 19 mins 50 secs

    Things I hope I don't disqualified for:

    I had pizza while flying.

Jumbo jets require air but they don't show it in the resources tab.

The plane stop 1.7 kms away from the end of the runway. Then I taxied it to the KSC.

BTW: Is this the biggest entry, and if so, can i get a special award. :P

Yup, this one counts. You get your free pass on the landing situation though.

If you want big entries, go see noname117. He has some pretty weird stuff... But wait, what's this? You had Pizza? And you didn't share any!?

Unfortunately I don't have a super awesome reward for anyone who takes a long time and has a flying warehouse in the sky. Maybe I could do that. "Die-Hard circumnavigator. Total mission time > 5 hours" I guess this will have to do for now:
