Well, technically not my first, I "Landed" on Duna one time... Well it was more of a cash, but the probe body survived. Today I successfully launched and landed a manned mission to Ike. One Jebediah Kerman is currently standing on the surface, the first Kerbal ever to set foot outside of the Kerbin System. He will however, be the fist colonist on Ike, as a staging error caused ejected parts to forcibly disconnect the remaining engine, by which I mean one of the big orange fuel tanks, the me with fuel still inside, blew up. Quite fortunately for the mission, no critical systems were damaged, and the launch proceeded. The lander has approximately 3 units of fuel remaining. I don't have a screenshot yet, but I am planning to get one.

I have a suggestion, how about a .5 m docking port that is in line with the ship so you can do something like the Apollo space missions and carry your lander with you in line with the ship, then detach it and re dock it on the front of the ship, also this could be used to dock with say a space station in orbit.
