Hi all Problem: One of our VIP is on KSS (Kerbal Space Station), but he left her cellphone on Kerbin !!! Your mission if you accept: Takeoff as soon as possible with your favourite SSTO to bring the cellphone on KSS xD The Challenge: KSS EMERGENCY ! -KSP version 1.04 and superior. -Stock parts and physics. -No excessive clipping allowed. (ask me if you are not sure of your craft, for example landing gears, and structural clipping allowed, but more than 10% tank clipping or Engines stacking not allowed) -No cheating (no alt F12, no infinite fuel, no modified cfg files, etc...). -Mods that don't add parts or change physics are allowed (Piloting aids or visual effects). -Mods allowed for computer parts: KER, MJ, KOS. -You can also use HyperEdit BEFORE the run to directly put in LKO a small KSS with at least one and max eight docking ports of the size of your SSTO docking port, or use your KSS if already in space. -Your KSS must be at least 100km above sea level. -You can not move or rotate KSS from the beginning to the end of the mission, the only ship moving must be your SSTO. -You must dock with docking ports (no Advanced Grabbing Unit allowed). -You must not decouple any part of your SSTO. -Your SSTO must have a Pod and/or Cockpit and/or Cargo/Service Bay to "put" the cellphone in -Your SSTO can be manned or not, plane or rocket style, and all stock ksp engines are allowed. Minimum requested to be Ranked: Two pics, imgur albums or videos if you want of course, the total time of your mission, and the autopilot used if you didn't manually piloted. -You have to set UT on the upper left timer of first and last pic to calculate the total time of the mission. -One Pic on the Runway(brakes on) or on the Launchpad(throttle to zero). -One Pic properly docked on your space station. Ranking will just be based on the total mission time If there is enough entries i'll try to make a cool "EMERGENCY PILOT" badge Here is my entry to show an example: TOP RANKING: 1: @Nefrums 3mn:52s (ksp 1.05 manually from launchpad, but without cellphone !!!) 2: @Evanitis 7mn:30s (ksp 1.05 manually from runway) 3: @ForScience6686 15mn:34s (ksp 1.05 manually from runway) 4 @astrobond 26mn:49s (ksp 1.04 manually from runway) What will be the best solution to quickly reach KSS ? Who will be the fastest Pilot ? Don't forget to press F5 from time to time, docking a KSS with too much speed can be... explosive xD I hope you will have a lot of fun doing this challenge ! "KSP 1.04 STOCK ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer Almost Gran Tour Mission Report" Ship also called : B.O.B. (Bunch Of Bananas) ! Hi All The mission ended today (2015/10/05)... The B.O.B. successfully landed and refueled on Minmus, Moho, Gilly, Duna, Ike, Dres, Eeloo, Tylo, Laythe, Vall, Bop, Pol, The Mun and.... Kerbin Bob and Jeb are 56 years olders but still alive and at home xD The challenge was for me to make a STOCK ISRU SSTO Rocket, with two Kerbals onboard (one Pilot... to pilot the ship and one Scientist to restore Science modules), with full Sciences Experiments, fully reuseable, totally autonomous, able to manually reach and land on ALL non gas bodies in the Kerbol System but Eve (witch really need a specific ship...), and as "light" as possible xD After some hours of bainstorming, testing, reading this excellent ksp forum... I ended with this ship: The craft: ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer.craft Edit:If you want to test the ship, i made a modification on a Mk2 version: add 3 big fuel cells around the advanced reaction wheels inside the Mk3 cargo bay and remove 6 of the 8 PB-NUK, that will dramatically reduce the mining/refuelling time... Just under 300t. ready to takeoff for the Minmus trip, 91 parts, 338,021 funds. 4860 max dV (using ore onboard) fully refueled, very good TWR and aerodynamics to handle every Kerbol bodies but Eve, and only one motor: the Mammoth !!! No chutes, all landings "should" be done using the Mammoth only... Mods used: KER, Precise nodes, (KOS is installed on my career save but not used on this ship). Tested some power solutions for the future B.O.B. ISRU Explorer Mk2, finally 3 Big Fuel Cells seems to be the best way to go about 15 Days to fully refuel on Minmus ! And no solar panels problems even if you are far away of Kerbol...

Hi all Next part of the B.O.B. almost gran tour: Gilly to Duna/Ike: Bybye Gilly and Eve... Hello Duna and Ike ! Kiss Landing (had to use F9 at first try because of an upside/down ship before scheduled scuicid burn... 2nd try, i used mammoth to down speed slowly while entering atmosphere...) Little Bob next to the Flag and the big B.O.B. Duna Takeoff.. Bybye Duna... Hello Ike ! Almost landed... And a new Flag Next step will be... Dres Fly safe with Valentina

Oh i have ship that could be better for that use ISRU Gran Tour.craft (not very nice... but with solar panels lol) I also tried spikes, but with thrust vector, the ship is a lot more controlable

It is a "quick click on drill and process then time warp before batteries goes out" method ^^ And it takes about one kerbal year to fully refuel the ship.... Could be a good idea to add solar panels xD

Hi manek I also love your PIP ship !!! Here is the craft: ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer.craft There is no fuel in the tanks of the Drill o-matic pod to be under 300t. but you can add fuel if you want a little more Dv in LKO to go Minmus (but that's doable as is) Fly safe with valentina

Hi All Step three of the "Almost Gran Tour" with stock "B.O.B" (Bunch Of Bananas) ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer.. From Moho to Gilly, a lot more easy than Minmus to Moho ^^ Moho Takeoff... Eve retrograde burn to reach Gilly Orbit... Gilly SOI... And about one year of mining to refuel xD Fly safe

Hi All I continued my "Almost Gran Tour" with the stock "B.O.B" (Bunch Of Bananas) ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer.. Second step: Minmus to Moho with less than 5000 Dv (Fully refueled on Minmus + 300 Ore) I choosed to go to Eve, parking the ship in a big elliptical orbit to wait the ascending node between Eve and Moho (about 900m/s used from Minmus takeoff to Eve orbit) After a Burn of 875m/s from the PE of my elliptical Eve orbit, i reached moho PE orbit, but the Dv needed to match the moho plane was way too much for my ship... So i decided to make a new Eve Encounter to help matching planes (395m/s to new Eve encounter and gravity assist to match planes and 357m/s to finalise Moho plan at A/N) This ended with 1257m/s burns to encounter and make a 30km Moho orbit I then landed on Moho (on my first try !!! lol) with 276dV left, made science, took sample, put flag, and waited for a looong refuel... To be continued

Successfull test of my new stock "B.O.B" (Bunch Of Bananas) ISRU Mammoth SSTO Explorer ! LKO with 1300m/s left... Just enough to land on Minmus... And Refuel Will try a SSTO "almost Gran Tour" (all but Eve) with Jeb as pilot and Bob to make science and reset experiments

Hi cubinator First to approve your Expedition What a looooong journey with lots of nice pics ! And congrat's for being the first to make the ISRU Jool 5 Challenge A lot of tries on Eve, no success, but i know that Eve SSTO is another challenge... That's OK for me, lot of work, landed on everything but Eve with 4 Kerbals, with a single ship fully recovered..., well done !!!

The craft is downloadable in the first page of the thread, there are just as many excellents ideas as smoke around the heli.... XD Really impressive.... just download and play with it !
