  1. I'm loving most of 1.0 so far, but I seem to be having real problems with maneuver nodes. Sometimes the game won't let me add them anywhere in an orbit, sometimes only after the periapsis, sometimes anywhere, sometimes the node marker jumps around like crazy. Has anyone else run into this problem? (or more importantly found a solution?)
  2. Must...download....faster. Maybe if I rub cheetah blood on my router...
  3. Scale down! The "trick" to spaceplanes (for me anyway) was to be absolutely minimalist in design. Don't put anything on your ship that doesn't absolutely have to be there.
  4. Personally, I'm not a big fan of DLC: I find it a blatant cash grab for not much value most of the time. HOWEVER, there are exceptions to this rule, and I could see well-managed DLC being a boon for the game. As mentioned by several people upthread, DLC would be a great way to expand beyond the core of the game itself. Extra star systems besides Kerbol, sci-fi parts to reach them, etc. might be a great DLC option. Some players absolutely drool over the idea and would have no problems paying an extra $5 to have these things in an official, supported way. Meanwhile, other style players might opt for an "uber-realism" pack with extra survivability parts, more realistic physics, etc. The real trick would be, in my opinion, that Squad wouldn't be able to charge $14.99 for a DLC pack like a bigger developer. $4.99 would probably be a more reasonable price point. And they would have to add a fair bit of value for that $4.99, or as people have mentioned, the players would simply get what they wanted from KSP's absolutely awesome modding community. To this end, Squad might decide that it's simply not worth it and their limited time and resources would be better spent on the next project rather than expanding KSP.
  5. Went absolutely nuts with SRBs. Kept adding more and more trying to get to orbit, and kept shaking apart when I went insanely over terminal velocity. Didn't know what struts were for yet. Then I went to YouTube and discovered Scott Manley.
  6. Lawl. I totally hadn't thought of that solution. Sacrifice half the crew to save the other half. Brilliant! Time to draw straws Mr. Kerman.
  7. This is pretty much exactly what I did. I set a resupply mission ahead of the crew to rendezvous in Eve orbit once I got there. I only have enough on the ship for a one-way trip plus about 20%. Oops. Drop anything? I'm not sure I understand the question. If I understand correctly, the only thing I can drop is a small rover I brought along, but it only masses about 1.7t, not much of a difference there. I'll probably just use the magic of hyperedit to fix the problem.
  8. I have yet to really figure out how to do gravity assists. Every time I try I get slung out in ways that are admittedly cool, but unhelpful.
  9. Oh now you tell me. At least I've pulled off an Eve mission before (tho not a land and return yet). Moho really gives me fits. The closest I've come is a probe whizzing by. Me: Ok, time to circularize at the periapsis. KSP: You'll need ~9k dV to do that. Me: But this handy chart I downloaded says 2200! KSP: Don't care. You'll notice that chart is way off for Dres, too. 9k dV please. Me: Well, I'll wave at Moho as I pass then.
  10. Launched a kerbaled mission to Eve last night. I've always had bad luck with this planet. Got my encounter, set an alarm in KAC, and went about running my space program for the next 150 days or so without thinking about it. Got close to my alarm, jumped to my ship...and wow, I'm going to miss the planet by 376,000 km. I'm guessing floating point rounding errors got me. I'm running TACLS and unfortunately, there's just no way to resupply the ship or get back to Kerbin before they all die. Bonus: ship contains both Bob and Jeb. Has anyone else completely whiffed like this? Share your stories and make me feel better!
  11. This might actually be your problem. With the klaw, I've found that a faster approach is better (at least personally). I usually come in at 1-1.5 m/s.
  12. Wow! Thanks! Just what I needed. Of course, I'm already up against the memory cap with all the mods I'm running, I'm hoping I can squeeze this one in there.
  13. That's exactly why I do the same thing. Mainly because there's no way to set the gamma correction in this game and I can't see *$%@ all at night in atmo.
  14. I just had this bug myself. My game crashed and when I came back, my fully upgraded astronaut complex shows 10/12 crews (even though I have more than that) and I am unable to hire any more kerbals. This post is shown as "solved", so I was wondering what the solution was? I've tried surfing thru my persistent.sfs, but it's 92,182 lines long and I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.
  15. I have also lost kerbals due to this! Thank you! Giving this mod an immediate try.
  16. Thank you. I tried skimming the thread but totally missed that. Next time I'll RTFT more thoroughly.
  17. For some reason, in the PodCapsule.cfg file, under the LifeBoat Module, foodAmount is set to .0001 (which I changed in my install). Is this by design, ie, is the DERP not supposed to have food in it?
  18. Well, the first reference is literally the sentence before the one you bolded.
  19. But Max has said basically exactly this. Twice. Shrug. I actually voted "No" in the poll, I'm just saying that any reasons we think Squad might be doing this are nothing more than speculation unless you happen to be a member of the dev team. In which case you're probably violating your NDA.
  20. I'll take a shot at it. Just off the top of my head, maybe it's a marketing decision? Trying to cash in on the New Horizons/Dawn publicity? They know this release will take longer than usual, maybe that's aiming at a June release to coincide with imaging of Pluto? That would give them 5-6 months of solid bug squashing and polishing, which imo is enough for what Squad has announced they want to do. But the real truth is, not you, not me, not anyone outside of Squad itself knows "why" other than the reason they've already stated: They feel they're ready. But please, everyone, continue with wild, baseless speculation. It's highly entertaining.
  21. ^^ THIS. I think Squad could bring a free puppy to every player and some would complain it was the wrong breed.
