  1. I now own a roll of ducktape. You know what I say: if you can't duck it, strut it.
  2. I would like the game to allow you choose one graphic to put on your craft (a "mission badge"), and then use a different graphic for the flags you plant in the ground. Mostly because I like how non-rectangular graphics look on craft, but I don't think they make good flags, and vice versa. ETA: Implementing this would actually be ridiculously easy. Simply set it so that instead of the planted flag using the current mission badge, it uses whatever you have setup as the default mission badge instead.
  3. Haven't had this problem. I came close once when under 4x physics warp, but usually they go up to about 80% overheat and stop. I put RCS thrusters pretty close to the attachment point for the quad adapter, so maybe that helps
  4. I found a new use for solar panels. And I did a headstand!
  5. IIRC, one of the devs said this would be a long one, compared to past updates. I'm guessing at least August, if not later.
  6. I am a jack of all trades, master of none.
  7. It's a distributed architecture manual. Components can be found on the Wiki, these comment sections, YouTube, and various third party websites. Piecing it together is notoriously difficult, but not quite as bad as surviving on a desert island with nothing but a rusty spoon, or landing on Moho.
  8. I have too many hobbies, most of which are expensive. Which is unfortunate because I am broke. In no particular order: Astronomy, computer games, building computers, photography, hunting/target shooting, and reading.
  9. He's chilling in the astronaut lounge telling tall tales to the new hires.
  10. Perhaps. Taken literally, though...no, just no.
  11. Were you thinking about this thing? Although I guess the diagram describes it as a "meteor shield" rather than a heathshield, so maybe not.
  12. One of my favorite songs. Unfortunately, it's scientifically illiterate.... To me, it's about a space flight to contact an alien civilization on Venus. We're heading to Venus and still we stand tall 'cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all. ETA: The scientifically illiterate part, aside from thinking there could be an advanced alien civilization on Venus over a decade after the Russians proved it was a hellscape, comes in right at the end of the above stanza, where they add "With so many light years to go and things to be found".
  13. Damn, you beat me to it. My grandfather was a gunner in one of those during WWII. He was part of a "black cat" squadron. They painted the plane flat back and ran night raids on Japanese shipping. And you guys beat me to the other one. Well, here are some pictures I took of it anyway: And since I couldn't get the entire thing in frame, here are some aircraft that were parked under it: North American F-100 Super Sabre Lockheed P-38 Lightning North American B-25J Mitchell Republic F-105 Thunderchief McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II (my uncle flew one of these during the war in Vietnam). Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 Grumman OV-1D Mohawk And the massive tail.
  14. I was reading an astronomy textbook looking for a screen name (I suck at coming up with names ) for another forum, and I came across the term. I liked the way it sounded, and the fact that regolith is basically rocky dirt was ironically amusing to me for some reason (...wait, does that mean I'm a hipster? Dammit!).
  15. Another janitor, apparently. (I mop and bring coffee).
  16. Here's a star trail photo I did a while back: And a long exposure of the ISS passing overhead:
  17. So here's some of the screenshots I promised: Jooligan I in orbit, having ditched the first asparagus stage, and using the last one to get a head-start on the burn to Jool. Main burn to Jool. It cannah' take much more, captain! Or, "Look at the pretty glowing nuclear potential warheads engines." Arrival in the Jool system. Say hello to my little friends! Uh, Kerbin, we have a problem. <tangent>So, yeah. I tried to shove a bit more fuel onto these things without increasing overall length by stacking toroidal fuel tanks and burying a 48-7S engine inside the "stack". The game even created a little tunnel/heatshield going down the center of the tanks, so I thought it would work. It even shows the engine flame going out beyond the fuel tank, but I'm getting absolutely no effective thrust. I guess the last tank is acting as a cap, negating the thrust. So, two out of three probes are worthless. At least my Laythe lander worked...</tangent>
  18. Wait, wait, wait...I'm confused. Why is she "girlfriend" and not "fiance"?
  19. This was my thought as well. Resource mining will help a bit, but I want more reasons to build and expand bases on foreign bodies. Maybe set them up so permanent bases will slowly generate science/rep/money, with bigger bases generating it at higher rates? I dunno, just, something.
  20. Funny you should ask....I'll upload more pics in a bit, but today I created the Jooligan I. It's an unmanned probe destined for Jool that consists of two Mk. 3 cargo bays -- a medium one and a short one, separated by a monopropellant tank -- and is carrying three landers destined for Laythe, Val, and Tylo. I was originally going to use the Mk. 2 cargo bays, but the Tylo lander wouldn't fit...It's powered by four LV-Ns, with enough fuel for somewhere around 7000 deltaV. My first attempt (pictured) failed, because while I had enough deltaV, my TWR was too low...despite using two of the big 25x4 engine clusters and two S1 SRBs. I removed some of the upper fuel tanks and the S1s, increased the total number of 25x4 engine clusters to four, and asparagus staged them. That worked.
  21. I, uh, may have done that a couple days ago... Does the fact that I successfully landed on Bop and Pol with the same lander prior to attempting Tylo mitigate my newbishness any? Or does the fact that I was using an ion engine make it worse?
  22. This happened to me a while back, and basically the cause was a craft that got saved with no parts. Go into your KSP folder and go to Saves -> the current save game you were working on -> Ships and then look in the VAB and SPH folders for .craft files that are only 1kb in size and delete them. That should fix it.
  23. I'm sitting on a nice fat stack of cash in career mode, so I thought I'd burn some of it up and send out a few return craft for Kerbals I have stranded stationed on various space stations. So, towards that end, my current list for today is: Send up a large orange tank (or maybe one of the really big ones? hmm...) to attach to the station orbiting Kerban. That will create a refueling station for number 2, as well as possible future missions. Create a SSTO reusable space plane to shuttle Kerbals to and from my Kerban space station. After that's done, create a return craft to send to Duna to collect some Kerbals I have stationed there, along with a fresh crew to take their place. After that I will do a few more Exploration missions, I think.
  24. First version I played with was the trial 0.18 version a couple months ago. Played the heck out of it, went to the Mün several dozen times, and unsuccessfully attempted to crash into the sun (I think the lowest I got was a periapsis of 1,300,000km, but I didn't know about asparagus staging). Decided I needed the full version, and got it for Christmas. Didn't know it had gone to beta until I downloaded it from Steam (was expecting the 0.23.5 version), so that was a surprise.
  25. Who said they were coming home? Actually, I had a fairly limited number of science instruments onboard, so I needed to be able to transmit some of it if I wanted to get everything I could both in orbit and while landed.
