Very sorry, as this was completely a misunderstanding totally on my part. (Especially after the KeiNile!) I entered Ice Ridge, as promised, because the Judges made a ruling and I am obliged for the sake of fairness to all to abide by their judgments. By the way, the two Judges have as much to do with starting Kayak Club as myself, (as Castille7 aptly explained) since it was their conversation in What Did You Do In KSP Today, that launched this thread. But no harm, as it is completely up to you whether we retain it or not. I think the truth is that ALL of the ice-cap coastlines are deeply impressive and it's a worthwhile sight to see -- and not just a single location. Koolkei, you might be happy to know that both Lake Excalibur and Iceland are very good examples of exactly what you were trying to show us! Good idea! Let's do this. It won't matter. They will be close enough to allow a new visitor to find the location, I am sure. I will verify, certify and record them myself. Well done, Koolkei! Would you care to add some details in your post about how Adventures should find the location?

An incredible place; worth getting to -- and worth sharing the "blooper reel" of what happened next. Most predictably... [click & arrow for slides] I claim a Visitation to Lac Eve/Gilly. Thank you for the fun, @Pds314 !

I have to admit -- I'm a little obsessed... A whole day of my life now. Gone. This is the right view, though. "Must... memorize... every... set of mountains... on Kerbin... from all... angles..." And this... looks like the right hole in the ground. I'm going to claim this Landmark, if it is what I think it is... Gopher Hollow! Ha ha, ha ha ha! Wait a minute... ...getting a bad feeling about this... Strong deja vu!! Now, where I have seen this before...? Better land and see what lurks there.

Soviet Air Force roundel
Hotel26 replied to Hotel26's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yours works, Comrade! Congratulations and Спасибо... It is being used on a MiG-15, so it more or less has to be the Red Star. (I'll put the other on file, though!) (You knew that Mac users live an average 12-15 years longer than the rest of us...?) -
Soviet Air Force roundel

Getting close! I got one made with Gimp with the same number of pixels as yours and half the res for some reason. (I'm betting you used Gimp then...?) But now I'm fighting some KSP caching... I will confirm the Revolution has succeeded in just a few more moments. -
I'm attempting to use Inkscape to convert this .svg.png: to a PNG file acceptable to KSP as a flag. I think I need something like 256 x 160 pix. I get this: which exhibits some stretching in the width axis. I've tried to set the Page (Canvas) size in Inkscape (my first time using it) but not convincing it to do what *I* want. I'm running on Linux Mint. Advice? (And, no, no luck with the online converters...)

Standing by itself, it looks great! How about "Crater Mountain" or "Mount Brimstone" (looks like an extinct volcano!).

How do you make a stock sub
Hotel26 replied to BlockGaming06's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Great. fyi: I have a 12t sub that has to carry 3200 ore to achieve neutral bouyancy, if that's any help... -
How do you make a stock sub
Hotel26 replied to BlockGaming06's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Silly question, but did you fill the tanks with ore? As I recall, they come out of the SPH/VAB with default 0 (zero) ore, unlike most other kinds of resources. ShipManifest (mod) allows you to dynamically fill and empty resources (as well as reliably transfer crew, which is why I use it). You need much more ore than you'd expect, too. (Which is why I employed the Tardis Effect for a couple of my submersibles.) -
Standrews!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you are going to have to attach them with docks. I used to have a system where the rover (see Invader) had docks on the front and rear and I could drive two of them into an Ursa cargo plane. The first would dock to the plane itself. and then the second rover would dock to the tail of the first. But you can attach rovers to docks in the plane in the SPH and save it. Then, anytime you deploy it on the runway, it's already got the rovers in it. Just what you want!!

Great! You are really getting prepared! Here's some helpful suggestions: take a look at these Suggestions for Explorers and Adventurers; please do ask if you have any questions at all! take a look at the "Discoverer" links in the Opening Post in the Landmark table (or simply scroll through this topic) and find a place you really want to go. Go there, because then you'll understand yourself how to present an attractive location to others and give them some guide to get there. For example, why not try to go to "Kayak River" which is the location after which Kayak Club was named?! A good Adventurer will become a better Explorer! then you can think about your own Landmarks after you've gotten some ideas of what other people like Meanwhile, I see you've figured out how to set a waypoint to get coords... very good. I've learned something too. Don't publish these of course!

In view of the Judge's findings, I am going to enter @Koolkei's 'Ice Ridge' into the Register of Landmarks. With the Judge's permission, I am also going to request that Koolkei send me the coordinates of the Landmark via Personal Message. I will keep these coordinates confidential and also recuse myself from the Hunt for Ice Ridge. Visitors may prove visitation by providing those same coordinates of their find, confidentially and by PM, to Koolkei and myself. Or we can appoint a Judge as keeper of those coordinates. With the Judges' Permission? Pardon me also, I'm not sure that a confirmed find has been made for this particular landmark, although I accept that purpleivan must inevitably have passed by it (without recognizing it)? I may be in error on this point? @Castille7, @purpleivan ?

Squad: a very VERY important (no its not....) question about the Mun
Hotel26 replied to Anth's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Can I pick 'truism ' then. And you didn't say whether you agree with or disagree with it. Nor did you give reasons. You've opened up so many questions... -
Commnet is the "exception that proves the rule".

I am just this moment verifying the exact height of K2. It is listed on Ye Treasure Map as 3rd highest, according to X-size. I will thence be proceeding to the potential second-highest site -- which seems to possess a bigger X mark. You, meanwhile, have discovered the true essence of Kayak Club. To wit, "putting one's pilotage and aircraft design skill on show". Well done, old man! Does your machine have a name? Is it a publication on KerbalX? And it looks like it's good also as a seaplane? (In fact, I seem to recall you've had it on and off the briny at 'Lake Zero'...?) Well, I think the "other contender" is not higher than 6,432m, so that would confirm 'K2' is stiill the leading contender for second-highest mountain on Kerbin. In case my Esteemed Colleagues haven't deduced this yet, my Spark is a single-engine Panther STOVL, which makes it excellent for this kind of high alpine survey work...

So far, just two such places: the eponymous 'Kayak River' 30S 38W 'Lake Excalibur' 74N 49W These coordinates are to the closest degree which means quite approximate, but should put you within 7 km of your target. In the longer run, yes, we need a better visitation system -- and possibly a new rank: Spectator/Onlooker/Dilettante.

Squad: a very VERY important (no its not....) question about the Mun
Hotel26 replied to Anth's topic in KSP1 Discussion
By July 1969, quite a number of the boys in my form were speaking (with) German (accents), although it wasn't being taught. Wernher von Braun (naturalized American), was something of an idol then to any teenager engrossed in the race to space. How soon, as a species, we forget important stuff... quite amazed, actually. -
Squad: a very VERY important (no its not....) question about the Mun
Hotel26 replied to Anth's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've always interpreted this as a joke in which it is spelled differently (coz Kerbalese) but the pronunciation comes out rather much the same as we are used to English (and after proper anglicization). -
Koolkei! A very interesting place and I should like to visit it! It's not yet in the Record of Landmarks, but I would certainly like to include it. Here's Some Suggested Guidelines for Explorers (discoverers) and Adventurers (visitors) recommended for everyone's attention. Hopefully, other members may add further helpful tips... A Landmark should be fun to get to and yet still have the feel like it is some little-known place: off the beaten track. It should have sufficient appeal, as something unusual about Kerbin, that visitors are inclined to spend the effort to go there. Bear in mind that if no one is interested in your landmark or no one can figure out how to get there, They will not visit and You will not get the 10 point discovery bounty. Therefore, it is highly advisable to give reasonable directions to get there that are fun (but not a push-over) to follow. A pictorial trail of how you got there, for example, can make the enterprise feel like The Hunt For Big Game! You are the Discoverer! Please name your find so that others can refer to it and, most importantly, it can be entered properly into the Register of Landmarks Post screenshots that give a sufficient panorama of the Landmark from a perspective that allows a Visitor to confirm for themselves that they have found the right place. Visitors, post a similar shot with sufficient distinctive detail and/or panorama to identify the correct trophy has been bagged (but without giving away the location) All remember not to refer to the Landmark by coordinate, at least until 5 Visitors have attended the scene and no further points are available.

capi3101 referred to that one (near KSC) recently also as Mt Killerkerbal. (He has the knack of naming, for sure.) I've chosen 'K2' here provisionally because it should refer to the second highest mountain. Whether or not this one is (judging from the size of the X mark on Ye Treasure Map), I cannot yet say. Meanwhile, the Royal Tabulators have been pulling another all-nighter after yesterday's Kayak marathon. Also, "Hear ye! Hear Ye! Court of Conjecture is now called to session." Hooray!! Supreme Court (Judges @Castille7 and @purpleivan presiding) is asked to pass ruling on the attempted land-marking of Kerbin features of "global" characteristic. Two samples in question are attached. The Court is asked to rule "these kinds of landmarks are permissible or impermissible". Public comment is also welcome, but Judges' ruling is final. Sample 1 is the longest river on the planet: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/190112-kayak-club/&do=findComment&comment=3745943 Sample 2 is any undistinguished section of the polar ice-cap: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/190112-kayak-club/&do=findComment&comment=3749448 In contrast, an honorable mention for @Koolkei's 'Lake Zero', which is a) highly specific, b) of interest, c) locatable and d) has been visited.

I will add two more peaks from the Pds314 Treasure Map: They are from grid ref -7,-2 and -7, -1 respectively. Mt Griswold Long Drop Mountain, 6,067m (I'm still open to a better suggestion for name): K2 (6,566m): I will be continuing my exploration of the 6K+ group, for sport, but withholding any further Landmark claims for the time being... Good luck, chaps, and don't forget your pitons!
