Like the title states, is it possible to add more Green monoliths to the game? I would like to make a career game where one can only upgrade a tech node using a green monolith. There are only 15 green monoliths scattered across the celestial bodies, one per planet/moon to be exact.. I need to get this number up to 60. Say, 10 on Kerbin and the rest is scattered randomly across the other bodies. It would be a fresh way of doing a career game. Is this something I could do myself, by changing certain files or do I need to get into mod building myself?

'Anything other than 10%'? Does this also count for the reputation and funds part? The 10% challenge is pretty daunting at times. I really had to think what to research next because, like you said, you can make a wrong decision and get stuck on Kerbin. I completely agree with you that the current tech reward system is a joke. I recently played a game with all reward sliders at 20% and found that it was as if I was playing a normal difficulty career game... no challenge whatsoever.. I've also been thinking of making the career game more fun.. it seems like the vanilla career misses something. it's just some random excrements you're doing. bring x to y and do stuff. and that's that. i would like to see a more story driven career game. let's say company x wants a ground base on minmus. so you build one and ship it a certain biome. next, you'll get a mission where you have expand the base with a habitat and scientist. completing the mission will give a certain tech/ or new part? doing a better job would give you more parts from a node? i don't know.. something like that.. stuff brakes down and you have to come and fix it? bring special samples to the base to unlock more part. stuff like that. other companies would have other unique storylines yielding different tech nodes or just parts. or scenario's where you have to pick between two options which result in other storyline branches and rewards. the sky is the limit and I'm just spitballing haha, so please forgive my ranting.. I know you can make missions with the mission editor but these also feel kind of bland to me. Anywho.... I'm going to look if I can add (45) more green monoliths to the game so that I can make up a nice (relatively easy) challenge for myself. If one monolith is spawned at every planed at random... it shouldn't be too difficult to add some extra objects to the mix? Did you ever try the no contracts challenge? With this challenge you're only allowed to get money from world first achievements. The goal is to upgrade all buildings to tier 3. It's a fresh take on a career run!!

hehe, thanks for the reply! yeah, I know you can easily adjust this when you start a new custom career game. I did a similar challenge a couple years ago with all reward sliders set to 10% . it was... very... challenging haha. my idea now is to create an environment where hunting down anomalies would be really rewarding. It could be a new (refreshing) take on a career challenge?

I just learned, after reading @JAFO's caveman 1.11x challenge rules... that the green monoliths grand you random tech upgrades for free?! My mind is blown! This game never ceases to amaze me! So my first questions are: how many monoliths are present in the game? one per planet? actually... i just had one question ... profit? If there are many green monoliths, this could open up a nice challenge/ mission idea for players: Unlocking the entire tech tree with as many monolith visits as possible! We could start a new game with the science reward slider set back to 10% or something and start from there? It would create a great incentive to hunt down those green stand-up guys ...

fascinating challenge! you made me want to redo the challenge again!I don't know if I want to go all hardcore like you though haha.

hey dudes! sorry for not replying ! I didn't get any notifications on this thread.. very odd. well.. first off: thanks for watching my video @jimmymcgoochie and @Mikenike and @RealKerbal3x!! I usually don't get that many visitors on my mission report threads hehe. anywho.. back to the question! why and how did I reuse the parachute without an engineer?! The answer is pretty easy: I was playing on sandbox mode. Apparently, there it is possible to repack a parachute with a pilot? I just stumbled on this by accident though.. it wasn't planned. Initially I wanted to land with Jeb's personal parachute.. I then found the repacking option and went with that. I figured it's not really cheating if I also could have used jeb's smaller chute.. in hindsight I think it would have been better if I had chosen jeb's parachute.. this would have avoided the confusion. Hope this clarifies things a bit.

I made a return trip to Eeloo using only Solid Fuel boosters. For me, it was a very challenging mission! In order to get my 0.55t payload to its destination and back..I needed a 4,300t ship. It took me many iterations and rage quits before I came up with a working vessel. Completing the mission was very rewarding though! I used Windows Transfer planner to set up the departure date and used a simple custom kOS script to calculate the delta v budget per stage with 10 decimals to get more accuracy. If anybody's interested here's a 4 minute clip of my mission.

After my last entry, I really got a taste for moar SRB missions! So this, time I went to Eeloo and back. I won't lie.. it was a lot more difficult than my previous mission to Duna! Getting a right encounter with the planet was a "female dog"! It took me many...Maaany iterations before I got a working ship designed... I used a custom KOS script to get more accurate DV values. The ones from KER only have rounded numbers. For my mission I needed more decimals to place effective maneuver nodes. The KOS script worked pretty well! In the end I had a lot of fun doing this challenge. I don't know if I'm up to conquer Tylo at the moment.. Here is a video of the mission. I hope you guys like it!

I don't know man.. sepretrons are Solid fuel boosters according to the wiki. So in my opinion, they would count for the challenge. Also, it's pretty difficult to finetune the fuel mass (read: delta v budget) in the flea if you have a small craft. Maybe we could add a bonus or something for anybody who doesn't use them? anywho.. this is not my challenge.. I'm just thinking out loud hehe.

Sorry for necroing this post, but I went to duna and back on solid fuel. Does this get me into Mode 3?

I've been experimenting with Solid fuel boosters and thought it would be nice to perform a return mission to Duna with them.. It turned out to be a very nice challenge. Since you can't throttle or shut down the rockets, you really need to set out your course in great detail. Luckily I found several ways of getting some sort flexibility, which made everything much more doable. I made a small video if anybody is interested.

RasterPropMonitor IVA Challenge For 1.10X
xendelaar replied to Miguelsgamingch's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi there. just noticed the reboot and figured I could try to see if this is a valid entry? I do have to confess two things: 1. I DID use Mechjeb 2, but only to point the craft upward during my ascend from kerbin.. I also could've used the blue Radial out button. It would have accomplished the same thing. I didn’t use it as an autopilot or anything. 2. I also returned to Kerbin, but I did not render those clips. There is a screenshot in the end where you see the capsule splashed down. If this is a hard no, well.. than I understand that.. Mods RPM ALCOR KSPVR Mechjeb 2 (only used to point craft into an radial out direction) ASET Props packMaking history interior pack HonkHogan making history IVA pack for russian re-entry capsules- 12 replies

I went to the Mun with my new VR set (Rift S). To enhance the immersion, I decided to forbid timewarping. I wanted to get there fast, so I built this overpowered rocket (12 km/s DV) to get there! I used the drawing of an 8 year old ( the son of redditer u/toddsiegrist) to help me set out my mission trajectory. I used raster prop monitor and kerbal VR mod for this mission. The mission was a lot of fun and the VR experience was very immersive (although a bit buggy, from time to time). here is a video of the mission, if anybody is interested..

Sorry for nectoing this challenge but I just did a All iva mission to the mun without timewarp and thought it would be nice addition to the "hall of fame".. A vr question on the ksp forum.. i know.. it's a long shot.. but here goes. I've got a rift s and installed a VR and rasterprop mod for extra iva immersive sweetness. I've been told that I should be able to push the buttons on the interior with my hand controllers but they don't respond. I've got several high tech cockpits at my disposal and the buttons work outside of VR. here is an example of the dashboard. .. inside vr however... no luck at all.. Is this an issue for version 1.10 or am I doing something wrong? Maybe I need additional mods or something? Any help would be highly appreciated. I'm planning do an all iva mission to the mun and back in Vr (without time acceleration) and without the ability to push any buttons it kind of impossible haha.

The Laythe 0 challenge!
xendelaar replied to Cant think of a username's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do I get a ship on the launchpad with zero funds in the bank account? -
Never heard that there would be an update.. what's new? Where are the release notes? Who's paying these fine programmers to enhance the game again and again?
-
wow! such a slick design! I was wondering when you would show us your vessel! It's very impressive! Amazing that so little wing span is needed to fly a 15 ton craft on duna! What kind of speed do you need to have enough lift there? Can't wait to see your video! This is extraordinary stuff!
