What is the point of keeping "wobbly rocket syndrome" stock?
Mat2ch replied to clivman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The problem with the wobble is that KSP only uses a singel point to attach parts, not the three point type. If you wonder what the difference is: Try to sit on a chair with only one leg. If you ask me, I'd do a whole lot of things different. Parts are attached fixed point. But they can bent. Calculating the bent is not that hard and putting this information back to the 3D model neither. But this way you'd have a bending coefficent and a breaking value. This could result in other, pretty funny things, like things getting bend permanently, but not breaking, if too much force is applied. Struts could work this way. On some parts you could just ignore this, like parachutes (or only calculate something for them on impact. Like someone crashing into your stored chute and destroying it). But this will be a lot of work. Really a lot. It means writing your own physics engine, at least for the space ship parts. The SAS problem is PID tuning. It could use some predictive code. Like, if you turn from prograde to retrograde and accelerate half of the way it will take half of the way to come to a stop. This is easy to calculate and I guess SmartSAS does it. But I haven't looked into the code yet. -
Saitek Farming Simulator Side Panel... Does this look perfect for KSP?
Mat2ch replied to richfiles's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yeah, no kabels sticking out, no sharp edges... how am I supposed to work this way? -
I just finished the HypeBus. You'll see it and iterations of it from now on once in a while And yes, it really drives like a bus...

Well then. ALL ABOARD THE HYPE BUS! -
Saitek Farming Simulator Side Panel... Does this look perfect for KSP?
Mat2ch replied to richfiles's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The SpaceNavigator is around 100 EUR, but I was talking (but not saying, my fault) about the SpaceMouse, which has additional keys and everything. Something like this for KSP would be really great. But still, hard to make around 150 EUR. -

Is it just me who finds it very unrealistic to have "throttle control" on RCS? And the 3dConnexion stuff is not cheap either For 300 EUR I'd build my own controller for KSP. -
Saitek Farming Simulator Side Panel... Does this look perfect for KSP?
Mat2ch replied to richfiles's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Good morning (it's early here. "eaaarly"), well, since I'm working for a company that makes flight simulator parts I really thought about creating a dedicated controller for KSP (in my spare time, otherwise nobody could or would pay for that). But, as you might guess, it's still not easy to create something like the Farming Side Panel for a reasonable price, except you know your target group very well. I thought about a kickstarter campaign and open hardware style. This way it would be possible to see how many would like to have such a controller. But I don't know if there is a market here. If I do some price calculations most of you will say: KSP plays pretty well with the keyboard! And yes it does! Squad has done a very good job here! Anyway, it'd be nice to have a KSP Side Panel, but it will be too expensive to make... (except there are 500-1000 orders. But I doubt that. And I'm really wondering how many orders Saitek will get). I just found out that the Farming Sim Side Panel costs 299 USD. Pretty much... -

But I've got no time right now to build a HypeBus. The HypeTrain to teh rescue! -
I did my first Duna landing in 1.0 today. After a failed areo capture. Have a look: But I'm playing with quicksaves, because after all it's a game to me and I don't want to be over scientific or overdoing it at all... (I know. If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing ) And here's the lander. Pretty big, many chutes, got down great, only a bit of burning at the end needed to get down safe. I really hope the LV-909s are powerful enough to bring me back into orbit... - - - Updated - - - Looks great!

Do you feel it? The Hypetrain is approaching! -
Does the EULA prohibit multiple installs on the same computer now?
Mat2ch replied to a topic in KSP1 Discussion
Uh, on Steam it's DRM-free, too. I'm running it without steam running right now. The other thing though... good question. I'm hoping for a good answer. And I'm a bit glad to live in Germay. Such rules just don't apply here. -
Today I finally finished my Duna mission ship. It comes with a five person lander on the front, followed by a science hub with docking ports for my SSTO space plane for crew transfer then a mining ship, which will hopefully help me to refuel the SpaceTug, which is at the end. If refueling fails... well, no going home for some time. Costs? Don't know. Parts count? Neither. Took four launches... The SpaceTug itself has 4 LV-Ns at the back. Which take pretty long to do anything. So I did three burns to leave Kerbins orbit. Well, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to areobrake with this ship, I'll try anyway at least to get an orbit. After that I've got plenty of time to circularize. My scanner is on it's way, too. And even though it started some days earlier it looks like it's taking a more efficient, but slower route. Tomorrow I'll timewarp to duna intercept. Will be a very exciting day. And I really hope I packed everything. I almost forgot the antenna for the science hub...

I'm not sure this is the way how this game should be played:

I landed my refuel tanker on Minimus. It wasn't built for landing:
-
I'm starting my Minimus exploration mission. Also doing Biome-hopping there. And fullfilling some contracts. Introducing: The Space Hammer!
-
I just returned my 40 day moon mission with over 4000 science points. Biome hopping ftw!

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread

When your doctors tell you to exercise, because all the sitting is hurting your back... -
My Jeb, Bob and Bill are currently orbiting the Mun. I'm playing an intermediate campaign and I'm biome-hopping. The lander has just enough dV to make it down and back up to the refuel station. Five more times and I'll have enough Science for many many technodes. Some may call it cheating... but I'm getting pretty good at landing on the Mun. Next "mission" is biome-hopping on Minimus. This time Val will have to assemble a team and go. Maybe I'm even building a real space station there.

Just tried with a shroud, nothing happens. Maybe a left over from the automatic shroud jettison there.

Hi, I just stumbled upon an action on the LV-909 (haven't checked other engines yet) which is called Jettison. And it does nothing when binding to an Action Group. So what is it for?
-
Yes, I did break 1.0 on the day of its release. I made a SSTO by only clicking randomly and made an orbit at second try. This definitely tells me I'm doing it wrong.
-
@xub313 aaaaand? Is it working?
-
Hi! Have you ever tried orbiting below 70 km? I did and it's a fun experience. But since the physics warp only accelerates to 4 times the normal speed it takes a loooooong time to do an orbit. But I made at least 2 and only lost 500 m while at it. I guess it would've taken at least 3 or 4 more orbits until the atmosphere would have slowed my vessel enough down to reentry. So, Challange?
