  1. This is the kind of thing that KSP excels in, even if it is non-aware of it's own emergent game play. Makes me happy inside
  2. Wherever the closest point is when I get there that saves me the most fuel so I can get out of there when it inevitably goes sideways.
  3. Granted, but they release with broken code that takes months to patch and fix. I wish my landlady was still married to my boss and not involved in a bitter separation I'm getting caught in the middle of.
  4. When I said time is a force akin to gravity, I mean like gravity, it is invisible but it's effects can be seen. It is persistent and exists everywhere. We can 'fight' against it, but inevitably we will succumb to it. the question was how so we explain the concept of time to an alien. As you rightly pointed out, everything it relative- time is no different, so the best we can do is explain our own perception of time. If any other sentient being out there is not affected by time as we are, then we need to reevaluate our own perceptions rather tha trying to explain a would be disproven theory. tldr: what we know about time is 100% fact until proven otherwise. If that happens we can't explain time to anyone. We will be the student once again
  5. This This. Time is a force, just like gravity. Any alien would be aware of time. If they are such that time does not affect them, they can observe time's effect on other things. The entire universe is affected by time. As WedgeAntilles said, "Time must always go in one direction". If by chance the alien can manipulate time as to not go in one direction, then must be the very least be aware of it. Self fulfilling prophecy kind of thing.
  6. Well, I'm in the process of building a habitable / refueling space station for my RSS/RO/RVE series. I went a bit "non-ro" because I wanted it to be more of a showcase piece than ultra realism. Sadly, due to the physical limitations of KSP, probably flawed design on my part, the inability to attach a part to two parts simultaneously (struts work to an extent), I've had to go back to the drawing board. However, I wanted to share the concept because in my very humble opinion, it was sci-fi geek awesome =D
  7. So your title was "Why I hate KSP" and your subject was "I remember when it was all fields around here". I don't get it personally, but it's got to be nearly nap-time for Granddad right? 31 year old who doesn't care about sex, race, sexual orientation, religious inclination, age, political view, social status, economic status, marital status, pet ownership, military service, car or your favourite flavour of lollipop. These things don't and shouldn't matter on the internet bar dating websites. Take a post on it's own merit rather than who posted it. Having said that, you sound awfully offended because someone - you say 'youngsters' and 'kids' (I presume you checked all their ages before tarring them all as juveniles), accused you of lying in an internet chat room. Then you proceed to spout rhetoric and conforming to general (yet wrong), stereotyping of people over a certain age. "I remember when it was all fields..." "You don't know you're born.." "If it wasn't for us.." "During the war..." "Back in the day, we didn't have..." I don't mean any disrespect, just irks me that people don't have better things to do than complain about being offended, (imho, a very minor thing - let's face it, there are far more serious things to be offended by). I feel humanity in general is getting too soft. Soon it will be illegal to hurt someone's feelings.
  8. I'd just like to point out KER doesn't provide assistance. It merely gives you a lot of information otherwise unavailable or difficult to find in game. Mechjeb can be used to autopilot and auto dock and auto do pretty much anything, but KER simply gives info.
  9. Yeah I was using IR. I was just having difficulty. I've tried it with a basic set of parts and confirmed it does work. May be a design flaw on my part. More likely is that my creation is quite large and falls over on the launchpad no matter how many struts / clamps I put on it and subsequently hyper-editing it into space to test functionality breaks a few things. Not to worry. Where there's a will, there's a way.
  10. This it not the same question as "Can I dock multiple ports at the same time?" Is it possible to get 2 docking ports to clamp together (dock) if they're on the same ship? As in, if you can't set yourself as a docking target? P.S. Not currently taking requests for my hawt paint skills.
  11. Hey, quick suggestion. Apologies if it's already been suggested and binned. Also apologies if it's more a real fuels thing or even tacls. Life support procedural tank. Is there anyway to incorporate a "days" tally? I'm already thinking of the problems with this as I'm typing tbh. I did think that dropping a tank and being able to increase size by "days worth of life support" would be useful, but how would mod know whether you want to go diameter or length. Also, how would it know how many kerbals you need life support for. I think it would be cool, but I already think it may be too much coding. I was messing around and wanted a life support tank installed with no kerbals (joining at a later date) and had no idea how much I needed. Of course, the solution was to throw a kerballed pod and check tacls, but seems a little convoluted. Well, think about it anyway =D
  12. Your name is too easy!! Nobbes Hovakoff
  13. Granted, but your genie is not smart and brought you a flexible hot bus conductor who is amazing at her job instead. Also your genie forgot the nitrogen while testing flexibility. I wish I had a life.
  14. Simple 3 word story. This is not an individual story. Rules Example: I will try to amalgamate the posts into the OP at some sort of regular intervals depending on how this takes off. - Have fun! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Story So Far... "That's puny!" whispered a small but toned Jebediah. He took some wood and blew up a Valentine shaped building. He thought, "This could be amazing with beer!" He then proceeded to eat dirt topped with creamy mystery goo and a spoonful of rocket fuel. He had to afk asap because of low heart pressure. He was bored in hospital but* then, after careful consideration, he almost solved the mystery of the space kraken's relations with Danny2462. After this incident, Aiden Pearce hacked Darth Vader's Iphone and won't again. Or will he.... Who knows? Maybe! He'll go into space and hack Jebediah's funky satellite. When a gigantic space gorilla chose tech wisely to build huge green kerbal faces, that exploded when the discombobulator refused to coordinate with Aiden Pearce's phone. Then Aiden died! Exploding steam pipes will then release scalding hot steam straight at Auntie May who then also died. Meanwhile, Jeb was excited because he saw the magic boulder and then it ran away with all the fuel and vanished into the Kraken's belly. Fuel line punctured! As they stared into the abyss, about to jump, then suddenly, Jeb said he wants to eat pizza. Kerbal went nova, causing Minmus to shrivel up and become a raisin, therefore creating a very large explosion. 300000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 years later... then add one and another one, divide by zero and some decimal. One man, not Jeb so who really cares, *artistic license applied to keep story on track while including as much as possible
  15. Play with it now!! Seriously, it's going to be at least a month before 1.1. Then RO / RSS will need to be updated. That could take anywhere between a few hours to a few months. Not to mention all the other mods you may want to install will need to undergo the same update process. Then there's the inevitable bug fixing of stock 1.1, which will probably break more mods which will in turn have to be fixed / updated. And even when all the stock bug fixes are applied and all the mods work, there's bound to be at least 1 cross compatibility issue between 2 or more mods. Maybe I'm looking at worst case scenarios, but 1.1 is a while away and it's highly unlikely you'll be able to play RO straight away - so why wait! Go for it now
  16. Is this compatible with Real Fuels and subsequently RO/RSS yet? Looks fantastic and I'd love to use it but no compatibility means no dice
  17. Font 2/10 Sarcasm 8/10 Lack of avatar 0/10 Derived standing : 3.3/10
  18. I agree it's far from perfect at the moment. My personal thoughts - Return BB code and source editing. WYSIWYG is all well and good, but a toggle option is better. - Options for colour please. KSP is a game (mostly) about doing stuff in space. There's no evidence of the blackness of space here. Just lots and lots of white. - "List New Posts" needs to be a thing. Not 'Threads' but 'Posts'. The unread threads is confusing. Is it threads or posts? Also, put it on the forum tab, not the activity tab. It's the first thing I, and presumably others, hit when visiting forums. - Colour. For the love of god colour.
  19. OPERATION II: IRIS² Establish preliminary long range communication network with 2 high polar orbit satellites Operation number 2! This was a pain in the backside if I'm honest. Designing the satellites was a semi laborious task. I had originally theorised 2 identical satellites with 8 long range antenna on each, covering a single planet each. Instead, I opted for 2 differing, 1 for the inner planets and 1 for the outer planets. Again, I will try to post some form of spec / blueprint when I have time. For the time being, each satellite has 5 long range antenna. Hopefully, eventually, each one will point to a satellite in orbit around a planet which in turn will relay to other satellites, maybe on the ground. There's a spare long range antenna dedicated to "Active Vessel". 2 short range antenna, 1 in cone setup for covering Earth's geostationary satellites (see Operation I: Iris), 1 as a spare / future proofing. I'm sure there are more elegant solutions out there, but my lim Commander 'Pronoes' Kerman's limited brain capacity leaves a lot to be desired. Getting the rocket up to altitude was not an issue at all. Numerous iterations of the launch vehicle were 'tested' on our 'simulator' before actual launch. 14k delta-v on the launch vehicle "Seshat", another one of my personal creations. Spacing out the satellites was the issue. I could have, and probably would if I were to upgrade / replace the satellites, gone for a similar mission profile as Operation I, ensuring the transfer orbit was half the time of the final orbit. As it stands, I didn't do that so the satellites are slightly askew. They have almost identical orbit times so drift and corrections should be minimal as time progresses. This was also an unmanned flight so no return journey required! What else? Ah, I was a little disappointed with the flickering of Earth in some of the initial shots. However, I think the clip of the alignment turn of the satellite near the end of the video makes the Earth look exquisite in the background. I also enjoyed messing around with one of my all time favourite mods, Chatterer and subtitles. It was a late addition to the edit and I had to download the ALCOR mod to 'simulate' a mission control centre. The whole arguing about 'tunes' was because I could not find a piece of music to go with it! Sidenote: This video has been blocked for German users of Youtube due to copyright stuff. Apologies! If the series ever gets popular enough, I will either reupload with no music, or find some copyright free tracks. I should do this anyway really but between everything else that goes into making a video, listening to dozens of tracks I've never heard of, searching for one that's 'just right' is time I don't have to spend at the moment. For now, Mission Control will simply play whatever he believes adds to the video. After all, who doesn't like the radio on at work?
