1. OPERATION I: IRIS Establish global communication network with 3 geostationary satellites. This is my first mission in a new RSS/RO/RVE sandbox game. If you check the "Boring Stuff" spoiler in the first post, you will see a little of what I'm hoping to accomplish. Anyway, I designed my own launcher specifically for this mission. After hours of testing on er, ahem, the "test flight simulator" we have here at A.R.S.E. Space Center, I came up with a monstrous 16k delta-v. This is because it wasn't a simple launch to GTO. I had to get the apoapsis up to GTO, but then increase the periapsis to achieve a 16 hour orbit, allowing me to achieve equally spaced/timed satellites. Before that, I had to achieve LEO and circularise. I didn't have to circularise, BUT, I wanted to ensure apoapsis was also in the same place as the equatorial node. This meant that my inclination burn, from 28° to 0°, could be done at apoapsis, therefore using a lot less delta-v. So in summary - launch > leo > circularise > gto (where apoapsis=equatorial node) > inclination change > increase periapsis (for 16hour orbit) > launch 1 satellite at apoapsis for 3 revolutions > reduce periapsis for re-entry. I will try to post a picture of the craft itself and some stats / blueprints. Having trouble at the moment though since a clean up of mods means a couple of parts got deleted! The video isn't the best in the world. Was my video virginity. I wanted to keep the whole "space is dark mmmkay" but as a result, I think it's a little too dark for mainstream viewing. I also forgot to record a few key moments such as SRB separation, capsule separation etc. Some footage was corrupted, most notably the return journey and inclination burns. Also, just noticed I've been spelling separation wrong this whole time!! NOT redoing video Please enjoy
 2. This. This weekend I've been entertaining my 3 year old, The weather has been foul so it's been a stay indoors, watch TV, play with trains, sword fights and what not. Every so often, (read: every hour/too often), I go through my at home ritual of go to kitchen, switch kettle on, go outside, have cigarette, back inside, make coffee, sit down at computer, click favourites, Facebook (ugh I know right), old (10 years a member) clan website (it's dead tbh but habit), KSP forums to check replies to my own posts and any updates. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. KSP forums are down. Why do I keep clicking goddamit lol. It's like when I run out of milk trying to make coffee. I still autopilot to the fridge knowing full well there's no milk in there and it's black coffee until I can brave the outside and fight my way to the shops.
 3.
hi, do you happen to have the RSS planet clouds in that RVE pack? Mostly I need the Venus stuff. The author has pulled all downloads of RVE due to complaints.
Everything is on the github still ?
 4.
No I've been quite sidetracked. Been playing a lot of Space Engineers and Elite Dangerous, both of which have been taking up a lot of time. In addition I've been playing a 64k install that uses up quite a bit of memory, so I've had to really scavenge my mods folder, including even dumping about 90% of my own textures (because I really realized that they are still far from optimized, memory-wise.) I have a pseudo-B9 pack that I've built a few textures for, but I'm having weird issues on both of my installs where certain greys take on a green cast to them. It seems to be an issue with the DDS textures, because when I test them with PNG's, they look great. I'm using the Nvidia Photoshop plugin for DDS conversion, but since I know almost nothing about DDS formats (I deal mainly with PDF & Postscript IRL) I don't know what options I should be selecting. Maybe I'll just export to PNG and use that old PNG2DDS KSP program that was here when DDS Loader was around.
My knowledge of everything you just said is limited to knowing I can open and edit DDS files with paint.net =D Fair play to you dude. Textures are great regardless and if you're doing other stuff that's cool. SHAMELESS PLUG - I used a slightly edited version of your textures in my first video. Hope you don't mind!

 6. LATEST OPERATION: DEMETER (Scrapped Design Concept) Establish refuelling depot in LEO Timeline 2021: Amateur astronomer Sarah Kershaw discovers a capsule containing strands of alien DNA in a highly eccentric Earth orbit. 2026: The DNA strands are cultured and genetically modified to survive in an Earth environment by renowned geneticist Jason Balfour. 2028: New sentient life is created, uniting the world. "HomoKershawBalfour" is born, nicknamed "Kerbal" by the masses. 2032: Kerbals now number 5 and are engaged in psychological, physical and a manner of other experiments at NASA. 2033: Bill Kerman falls over and triggers an experimental inverse anti-matter world destroying bomb. Everything outside of a 2 mile radius of Cape Canaveral is destroyed. 2033: The last few humans who haven't lost their minds commit suicide after dealing with the Kerbals bumbling around NASA while trying to save humanity. --END HOMOSAPIEN TIMELINE-- --BEGIN KERBAL TIMELINE-- 0001: Pronoes Kerman steps up and establishes a new space organisation with the purpose of exploring the solar system and establishing life on other planets. Present Day: A name is founded for the new organisation. After ridiculing Valentine for coming up with the "Colonisation & Resettlement Astronautic Program" which had the acronym of CRAP, Pronoes plumped for Astronautic Research & Space Exploration, which has a much friendly acronym of AR... awww DAMMIT!! Mission Statement The following is a series of 'archive footage' from missions based out of what used to be Cape Canaveral. Commander Pronoes Kerman has waived the security clearance and granted you privilege to view these classified videos. Pronoes Kerman is a great and powerful leader (don't forget wise!) and is determined to reach out to the stars, possibly to colonise other planets, maybe to contact other Kerbals out there but mostly just for knowledge. Since the destruction of life on Earth, all he has is a rudimentary knowledge of physics, a stack load of parts NASA won't be using anymore, a test flight simulator and access to Google. (Apparently even though everyone died and everything got destroyed, someone downloaded the internet onto an anti-matter hard drive! *cough*) While he is no rocket scientist, this blasting things off into space isn't exactly brain surgery is it? Regardless, the videos are more cinematic than educational, with a few captions to state what is happening from time to time. OPERATION LIST Operation I: Iris | Status: Complete | Forum Link - Establish global communications network with 3 geostationary satellites. Operation II: Iris² | Status: Complete | Forum Link - Establish preliminary solar system communication network with 2 high polar orbit long range satellites. 7.
This means Linux, no? I'm on Windoze 7. /Luxius
No. Windows with the 64 bit hack. There's a guide on these forums. Use at your own peril and do not expect support from mod makers while using it. Also search for 64 bit unfixer.
 8.
Very nice. Is this a hacked setup or did you just ckan it all? I can handle a few hacks, if you tell me how you did it, but I'm not sure where RVE is at the moment. Is it 1.0.5 ready? Already have RO, RSS, and RP-0.
Thanks for the compliment. I forgot to record some footage, such as SRB seperation (I actually said "there's the money shot" to myself when I seperated, then realised I'd not hit record) and got a bit of corrupted footage but it's just a test / trial for a series I'm thinking of doing using RO/RSS/RVE. I'm using 1.04 with 64 bit workaround and base instructions from this thread. In RVE/EVE/Atmosphere, I'm using RVEMaster textures with x86 config file. In RVE/EVE/CityLights I'm using RVEMaster textures & RVEMaster config and in RVE/EVE/Terrain I'm using RVEMaster Textures with x86 config file. Basically, follow instructions as per Pingopetes readme. Make sure to get right EVE version (one dated from above thread works fine for me - check "releases" on github page). Install RVE as per x86 then copy Atmosphere textures, CityLights textures, CityLights config and Terrain textures from RVEmaster. I'm not giving any guarantees it will work though!! Took me forever and a day of messing around with different downloads and setups to get it to work.
 9. Hey guys. There's a couple of semi decent shots in a video I have recently uploaded using RVE if anyone wants to take a look. Any feedback would be much appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX6V3pDWqKM
 10. Goddamit found the answer myself after 4 days of messing around. Relief!! Testing, retesting, about a dozen partial installs, handful of full installs and it turns out I was reading the range from RTSettings in RT (rss config) rather than RTSettings in RSS. Off by a factor of 15.
 11.
Yes, it is updated to 1.0.5. ;_;
Sweet. Does it come with Frowny Manley? Also, I want Angry Manley. MUST COLLECT THEM ALL
 12.
Is there any way to get this to prune just normal, boring cylindrical tanks? I don't want to prune things like the Mk3 tanks, adapter tanks, oblong tanks from Firespitter, toroidal tanks, etc (basically any tank that can't be replicated by Procedural Parts)
There is, but it involves the creation of a file with the items you want removing. While it's worth doing for mass consumption, for your individual needs (unless you plan on pruning multiple installs of the same stuff) you could take a look at part manager for ckan. You would need the "unofficial" plugin / fix. After writing all that out on mobile I just realised I don't think you can use part manager for stock parts. Will leave it at that - someone else may have better advice but gives you something to ponder. Or DELETE ALL THE CONFIGS!!!
 13.
OK, just installed the entire overhaul suite through CKAN, I see a lot of tanks and engines were upgraded in size/thrust and also modded to real-fuels (SSTU is one of my favorites, used to go up to 6.25 now to 10m). Will make some new rockets and see how they do :) Now to make my hangars bigger.
Hangar Extender is your solution, I think it comes with RO as maybe one of the optionals
 14.
No, they have range differences. If you take a look at the "ANTENNA" section of each station you will see that they have different ranges. For the launch sites it is 5 Mm, for ESTRAC / DSA stations it is 1.781 Tm and for the DSN stations it is 114 Tm. All the other "uncategorized" stations have their own range. All the above apply only for RSS of course.
Sorry I thought they always had different ranges in rss. I was responding that the colourisation was purely for visual effect to differentiate the categories. You are right though. I misinterpreted the original question.
 15. As above. Don't use RSS without RO. It's like tryin to swim in jelly. Saying that, once you have ro/rss up and running and are designing rockets with a purpose rather than "get to orbit - more booster" "get to kerbol - more boosters", it's immensely satisfying and tough to go back to stock. Of course, there's a lot more to think about with a full setup. FAR means your aerodynamics have to be reasonably ok. Life support is required if you want your herbals to last more than a day. RCS has to positioned correctly and fueled or you'll be trying to turn a house with pedal power. Remote tech requires active connections to a mission control if you want anything more than manned flights (and sciencey stuff). If you're not doing career and are happy to man everything then remote tech becomes more a role play thing. I personally am setting up a "thing" where new missions and exploration are done unmanned for "safety" reasons. NASA wouldn't send men to Uranus without probes and science first. All of it is worth it. Last rocket I sent up needed 18kdv for a gto with multiple satellites (3), 16 hour orbit and an inclination change from 28 to 0. Also return journey. Side note, trying to start a video series when I get everything working well.
 16. Last question for the evening. Which, if any, mod handles the renaming of Kerbin to Earth? RSS does it ofc, but after adding RVE and corresponding stuff (EVE/Scatterer), it's renamed Kerbin. Is this how it is or did I break something?
 17.
Exactly that. The Remote tech defines the rules under "root" range model: It means that it is taking the ground station's range also into account, summing the geometric mean of the two ranges to the smaller range. Given ground stations' range is pretty high, you get much more range than the stated in the description on your antenna.
I guess then it's question of balancing fun with realism. I don't know how RL antenna / stations / comm networks work, but the root mode and greatly increased distances seem to take some of the difficulty out of RT.
 18. Anyone else having issues with ranges of antenna not matching up to what it says on the tin? I've took a Gemini Antenna out of (RSS/RO) Earth's SOI and still had connection. The Antenna is supposed to be 200Mm, yet I've maintained connection well past 800Mm, into the 1000's. Same thing with Ranger Block III Core. That is supposed to have a 2Mm (2,000,000 metres), yet I've got an active connection at 198Mm (198,000,000 metres). Is this an RT issue or do you guys think it is RO/RSS? All on 1.04 KSP and 1.04 versions of mods. Or am I just missing something and this is perfectly normal? Edit: Quite possibly I have just noticed RSS has "root" as default in RTsettings config. This would explain the messed up ranges. In the language of my people, "Dat not advanced, dat just confoozing man. Mmmm rocks."
 19.
Thank you! Any gameplay differences among those (range perhaps)?
Just visual changes AFAIK
 20.
Greetings, I am using RO/RSS and after the latest update on RSS the ground stations show on different colours (it looks like continuous hue values and not some categorical classification). Given it is a Remote tech feature within RSS/RO, I wondered I could find some information on the meaning of those colours on the remote tech documentation, but didn't find anything. Any ideas?
I've seen this in a cfg / txt file somewhere. They're classifications. 4 colours, off the top of my head something like "Uncategorised" "DSN" "SomethingElse" "BlahBlah" :P Having a look for the file now but no joy. Edit: Found it!! 21.
Well I'm having the same kind of problems, but no solution yet. Might be to do with the Tantares antennas I'm using, but I may have also been having problems with a 88-88 as well... Trying to make a probe for a 'test in orbit of sun' contract, and no matter what I try I lose connection before I get past the Mun... Even with two 15Gm dishes aimed at 2/3 of my equatorial relays, on a polar escape trajectory normal to the relay's orbit, so should have constant contact. Frustrating...
Are you using RO/RSS and which version of KSP?
