  1. Actually, given diminished absolute speeds and a bouncy exterior, airship docking should be easier than airplane docking.
  2. Some of the touted advantages of Nova/Saturn-8 was that it could resupply a whole division, or drop in a battalion.
  3. Yes. The An-225 would double the range and speed of a converted troop carrier ekranoplan.
  4. The Mythbusters were unable to shatter any glass, even with a jet fighter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvtAElaDVz8 Edit: oh, wait... apparently under some circumstances it works.
  5. Reminds me of the old Global Rescue System proposal!
  6. Well, this is optimism-inspiring: RKK Energia has declared a Federatsya abort to the Pacific unsurvivable because of lack of naval S&R assets. https://ria.ru/20190706/1556272736.html
  7. At surface level? It’s a reversed railgun - no power source and a self-propelled projectile make it a very simplified, but fully functional model of an electric generator. I can definitely see how it can generate a current, diesel or not. Question is how that field affects a car.
  8. You might be surprised. Apparently there’s a slow line of inquiry into electrically-fired, electrically-throttled solids; we’ve skycraned people with solids, and electrical attitude controls actually debuted on an early Venera probe.
  9. That, and I can’t imagine the heterogenous monoprop is not a major explosion hazard. The components must slowly react even in storage.
  10. None of these, I’m afraid. The electrics are pushing them out of the small satellite market, whereas the larger you go, the more attractive MMH+NTO becomes.
  11. Guys, we need to talk. Whichever of you stole the time machine again and talked to von Braun? https://old.reddit.com/r/SpaceXLounge/comments/6q5j0q/found_von_brauns_original_1948_novel_mentioning/
  12. And then you throw in a religious angle and it all goes to heck...
  13. Not an unusual situation given their considerable quantity. I still have Stellaris and C:S on the distant backburner. Gotta accept some free hugs first:
  14. Ah, that gives me an idea for a thread of its own. “Most contrived robot rebellions in fiction” Right now I’ve got two candidates, the other being Detroit.
  15. Why are you bothering with a Gauss gun? Just eject the rails once expended, or better yet, let the recoil eject them out the other end.
  16. FYI it’s just a pressure hull at this stage. These we do know how to, ahem, launch:
  17. https://youtu.be/b2CkJYLOQV0?t=84
  18. They mention KDU, we know it means the service module engine.
  19. They’re arguing with NASA, then.
