For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

There are two strong examples already. One, the towed sonar array is almost a mile behind the sub and so already this poses a noticeable challenge in signal handling... that has evidently been surmounted. Two, some of the sonobuoys are active emitted-only, so again, they can use an off-board emitter. Additionally, underwater digital communication by sound is a thing, so it's not difficult to create a sensor-sharing datalink. -
Guess who! Frankly, this is the most controversial one yet. Too many of these Wunderwaffles are too dear to our hearts, I guess...

This does not look comfortable

A month later, this thing appears to be the bomb because it's hitting a lot of the right notes. For example, see the scripted orbital fire support in this clip? It's not scripted. It corresponds to the actual fire support and reinforcement call-ins by the playerbase on this particular planet. And if this were an Automaton planet and not a Bug planet, some of the superdestroyers would be taken down by enemy fire. Did I mention automatons? Yes, this game isn't limited to bugs. It also has the Socialist Automatons, complete with red stars, robot Commissars, a sea of bright red tracers coming your way, and all that jazz (techno?) At least the Ministry of Information states they're socialists. And because the game's GMs have currently herded much of the conflict to a jungle planet, everyone is meming hard about Space Vietnam with Terminators.

There's a theory that the Japanese abandoned shields because they had an archery-focused nobility with mega-pauldrons. However, the various Eastern Siberian tribes went further. A whole lot further. In Russian sources, it's known simply as a wing. Yes, this made curling up into a ball a legitimate battle tactic.

8 hours and yet zero Ignition! quotes? Preposterous. -
"We had 2 cabinets of film, 75 lenses of varying focal lengths, 5 different trigger systems, a box half-full of filters, a whole collection of flash diffusers, color correction lenses, and two dozen batteries. Not that we needed all that for the shoot, but once you get locked into filming a nuclear explosion, the tendency is to go all out."

Boeing may disagree that those are good things.

...which is, frankly, absolute idiocy that I still fail to understand.

Judging by the noises being made, this could be about our old friend 14F350 Equipage, not a bomb. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/national-security-warning-reportedly-involves-russian-space-weapon https://thespacereview.com/article/3809/1 You know, Putin's Address to the Federal ssembly isn't far off. New cartoon time? -

I had a huge post about it, but decided to trim it. The original high-altitude BetAB-500 didn't have a booster even though WWII BetABs did. The booster reappears on the BetAB-500ShP, because it was equipped with a ballute for low-altitude deployment. There's no advantage in stated penetration. -

You may be overthinking it. It's possible the showrunners think TMI and other production nuclear plants are directly used for nuclear reactor development. -
This needed more struts... *shudder*

Yes, but you can only use it if you haven't given up your landline. Shifting most use to mobile and the sheer quantity of spam calls has caused my family to systematically get rid of those. -

It's really a question of what you expect the robot to do. Earliest UGVs already taking tentative steps would likely be simple mobile gun turrets, i.e. minitanks. Unmanned logictics mules, including complete improvisations, are already a thing. https://t.me/Artillery_Artillery/18830 And generally there's a strong expectation for specialization, and advantages to be reaped from it. So I expect even later robotic infantry and quasi-infantry to use gun arms and be supported by auxiliaries (engineers, casualty haulers, gun crewmen) with wrist guns. -
