  1. There can be research stations studying off-world habitation. Testing life support tech and ISRU, etc. Maybe hotels for ultra-rich.
  2. Roscosmos is a state corporation, not a state agency, which means that it has financial interest in not letting other organizations take their part of space launch market.
  3. They are all Roscosmos rockets, so it doesn’t really matter if they compete with each other or not. Argo, on the other hand, is a competition from outside, which is bad for Roscosmos.
  4. Angara is a replacement for Proton, made by the manufacturer of Proton. It won’t compete with Soyuz-2 or Soyuz-7, which are medium rockets.
  5. PTKNP is made by the same organization that makes Soyuz (RKK Energia). It’s a replacement, not competition. Argo will be made by some outside company and is designed to compete with Progress, which Roscosmos doesn’t want.
  6. 1. Because it will compete with the good old Progress. 2. I never claimed you did.
  7. Ok, but let's not make this thread about Starship too. I still think Roscosmos will axe this Argo ship. Why wouldn't they?
  8. Aerobraking at Saturn would be at 36+ km/s, more than 3x the Earth escape velocity. I don't think there are materials that can take this amount of heating. Maybe it can aerocapture at Saturn with 100m-wide plasma magnetoshell, though.
  9. 1) If it can’t lift 150t to orbit while being fully reusable, then it’s boring and outdated. 2) Roscosmos will try to shut it down (or slow down the development as much as possible) because it competes with their Progress-MS.
  10. Apparently, Musk unfollowed Bridenstine right after his announcement. Huh.
  11. How does he have so much power over NASA and space policy?
  12. I don’t understand, SpaceX has been very useful to NASA over the years. Is it really worth it to throw a wrench into their relationship just to signal to some Shelby person?
  13. “Call Boeing, tell them to build SLS in the middle of a field from now on!” Wait... what if Boeing kidnapped him and made him write that statement?
  14. Pretty sure he’s dissing SpaceX here. Saying that they don’t work as hard on Commercial Crew as on Starship. Maybe he doesn’t like that all the hype is around Starship and not SLS. Well, shots fired.
  15. What’s dead may never die. Have they found a new investor?
  16. They're very close to each other. Maybe they can generate aerospike effect from each other’s exhaust?
  17. I use 350s for SL Raptors. Dry mass at 200t, wet mass 1400t. That gives 6680m/s with no payload or 5300 m/s with 100t payload. If LEO requires 9300 m/s and landing dV is 300m/s, then SS will need to stage at 2900 m/s with no payload (doable) or 4300 m/s with 100t payload (impossible). That's why I said it needed Vac Raptors to be useful for orbital launches.
  18. Maybe they will, but I haven't heard anything about Mk1 getting Vac Raptors.
