  1. https://www.popularmechanics.com/space/rockets/a30705512/yenisei-rocket-russia/ Thoughts: Why can't they just build a hydrogen stage factory at Vostochny? Better rocket + jobs for Far East + pride for reviving Energia. Or have I been spoiled by SpaceX approach to building Starship and launching it from the same place?
  2. Definitely the right one. “This here is our system, we welcome unannounced guests with 50 km/s penetrator darts, have a nice day”.
  3. They really have no deadlines? Wow, I wish my job was like that. “We’re going to pay you until you finish the project, whenever that may happen”
  4. If Boeing for any reason decides to pull out of Artemis at some point, or messes up the lander so badly it can’t be used, the whole program will end. There won’t be backups like in Commercial Crew or “buy seats from Roscosmos”-option.
  5. Oh, there are defenders in this forum, so just you wait I mean, I understand when people defend this pork rocket as a job to lobby for Boeing, but for free? And I’m not saying it because I’m a SpaceX fan, I like the BO blue lander, IVF-enabled depots and other ULA proposals, etc.
  6. Don’t see any other way in the foreseeable future. The FH-DCSS-Orion Frankenstein stack would be even less capable than SLS-Orion. On the other hand, if they ditch the idea of comanifested payload entirely and send landers/station parts/resupply/etc on commercial rockets or cargo SLS, and send just Orion on FH, it may actually be a better option. But why then would they need SLS? A super expensive cargo rocket that can fly once or twice a year to deliver up to 45t to TLI. Equivalent of 2 FH, but massively more expensive.
  7. Yes, but they should really be worth their price. Not just a parts pack, but new gameplay. Something greater than what mods can offer. Since base building is going to be an important thing in KSP2, I’d expect a full-scale planetary colonization expansion, for example. It should have a fair amount of new mechanics like terraforming, new colony management and logistics tools, new goals and rewards. But if it’s just a parts pack with differently colored base parts, then I’ll pass.
  8. So, Starliner’s next flight is supposed to be with astronauts, right? That’s going to be scary...
  9. That's ~15 launches per year for Sphere sats alone. They're really optimistic about their capability. What's more likely, Roscosmos spending 324 bln without massive thefts and dozens of new criminal cases, or SpaceX landing on Mars in 2024?
  10. With his pace of innovation, he’s probably going to unlock the entire tech tree before even landing on the Moon. He’s researched Very Heavy Rocketry already. Took a strategy to convert money into science, no doubt.
  11. I'm still not getting why you're so opposed to making these parts yourself. There's plenty of tutorials online, or you can ask the experienced modders for directions. It's a good opportunity to learn the 3D modeling software.
  12. BTW, I’d absolutely, 100% go. Maybe not in the first group, though.
  13. But we don't even see any thrusters on the underside. So no fuel expended, no need to recharge. Newton's Third Law was repealed by the Senate, it looks like.
  14. For starters, they can dig a pit with flat bottom and land Starships there. It will require some kind of bulldozer or excavator, but this equipment is likely to be used in the base construction anyway.
  15. No, it only means that Starship will need dedicated landing pads.
  16. “ISS 2.0 in a really stupid place”.
  17. Cool, where do you work? No, let me take a wild guess - ESO? (It’s one of the very few observatories that I heard about)
  18. How can the whole rocket cost $800M if engines only cost $600-$700M?
  19. Something was venting from the cooling pipe, and an icicle could be seen forming. Norminal?
  20. I heard DPRK doesn't have good launch azimuths... Rockets have to fly over Japan, not great. Not an easy problem to solve, unless you have a floating launch platform or something like that. Oh wait.
