  1. Yes. I've had a fascination with landships since Supreme Commander, but Homeworld in one way or another has inspired a lot of things of mine. Unfortunately, I think this whole project is beyond the capabilities of what I can do in KSP right now. Part joints are just too weak, and I can't auto strut much of anything when using IR. However, the original half-track has less problems in lower gravity, and since Duna is both flat and lower gravity, I think that'll be the destination. In fact, I actually removed the middle 3 rows, and ran over the crawler track in give or take Duna gravity and it handled it fine. It might be able to handle other low gravity worlds, but I've been to Duna enough times to know its safe there. I wonder I many it would take to wrap around Gilly though. Here's pictures of the final test with the IR suspension before I surrendered to the might of Kerbin's gravity.
  2. So it was in a very high orbit clear of Ike's ninja ejections?
  3. Problem is if I go for fewer it won't even be able to move at all. In the image you quoted it was only supported by 8 of the tracks, which as you can see are bottomed out and being flexed upward. they could only muster 1.2m/s to move it off of the crawler track. The other thing is that all the tracks are already beneath the body and there isn't any more room. That said I recently discovered the spring settings in the IR module (I wish it was accessible in the editor like the speed and acceleration things so I wouldn't need to restart KSP for the changes to take effect), and have been working on a setup that works. As for making it a hover... well on the second day of working on this I decided to give Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak campaign another run and then ended up listening to some of the soundtrack on a loop. The thought has occurred to me a couple of times. I'll probably make one with the help of Near Future's nuclear reactors.
  4. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to request it then? There's a lot of ways I could use a wheel like this that I've not done simply because it looks atrocious with the current selection of wheels (and I really don't like the stock wheels, or wheels that work like them)
  5. What about something that has suspension inside the wheel sorta like the small wheel, but with the suspension and steering joint all inside the wheel. The idea being an ambidextrous wheel that isn't any wider than the wheel itself, maybe even to the point of having two nodes (one on the left, one on the right). I know this would totally invite clipping when a steering wheel is placed directly against a flat surface.
  6. At home watching the fireworks from a safe distance with Bill, Bob, and Val. I retired them so randoms would lead the horde scrambling over each other to pile into space.
  7. Would be possible to get tracks and wheels lacking suspension?
  8. So, I'd previously been using Recoupler for strengthening IR joints (using several rotors on the same axis and strutting them together), but 1.3.0 of Recoupler breaks this. Could you look into improving the IR support or making it optional with future versions?
  9. Was doing terrain tests on the landship and realized the biggest issue with a 90 meter self-propelled board. Despite being able to get up to speed, it can't handle most terrain because it loses most of its traction when only four of its 20 tracks are touching the ground, as well as any hopes of steering more than a couple of degrees every 20 minutes when the 32 wheels aren't touching the ground. Looks like making a jetpack for a football field will have to wait. I have some ideas, but I have no idea if they'll work as I'd like.
  10. No he's right, it converts kerbals into kethane and seems like it was named by the sacrifice mid-sacrifice.
  11. Making a landship. This is the first working model. It could carry a good load (~2,000t) but turning took absolutely forever. Decided to make the next version a half-track so it could actually turn around. Turned out pretty well. Someday, somehow, I will get this thing into space.
  12. As @qzgy said, you can use imgur to host images, and the direct links to post them here. As for where, here can be a pretty good place, but Mission Reports might be good as well if you're thinking about having your own thread.
  13. Tested an SSTO. It had just enough fuel to make it to my station, which wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't put the docking port on wrong. Had to deorbit using RCS, almost overshot KSC, over corrected and almost undershot KSC, before finally landing in pitch black. Diamonds were made landing in pitch black. Daytime shot so you can bask in the glory of my passenger triangle.
  14. Yes. Ike is rather large in relation to Duna.
  15. So, I guess The Mun's real name is Loona then. Edit: Having checked I don't really like it that much at all. How might I go about that?
  16. 1.3. While the KSP version didn't have features enough for me to want it, mod updates did.
  17. So, I just went there myself, then cycled through Terrain Detail settings. It goes underground when on low terrain detail, as do a significant number of other easter eggs. But, it only does it on low. Default (medium) and high show the temple just fine.
  18. Mostly certain its Airpark you're thinking of.
  19. Definitely a 4, possibly even 5. Also dang this is the shortest ancient thread I've seen.
  20. If we wanted to do something of the such in real life, we'd specially make the parts to survive in the expected conditions, while Kerbals just have a bunch of all-purpose rocket lego. I really shouldn't be able to get away with dragging a poodle engine all across the runway and still have it work when I slam it into the Mun's surface a day later, but I can. Is it really that hard to believe that the Kerbal airbrake would be significantly tougher than its real life counterpart?
  21. My favorite one was a high TWR VTOL stunt plane that I liked to flip on take-off. Brakes on, all engines on, pitch up, turning off VTOL engines when vertical, then flying off upside down for a bit to get speed before rolling. If I toggled the VTOL engines right I could even manage a full flip from take-off, but that was a bit riskier.
  22. I'll be honest with you, it might be a little odd being an American celebrating Canada's birthday.
  23. Accidentally made one of those spinning sparkler fireworks testing a rover. After I tweaked the torque massively, I stuck three of them on an aesthetically pleasing rocket bound for the Mun. They're going to find the best spots to land mining equipment so I can get a good ISRU system for more convenient refueling in Kerbin's SOI.
  24. Don't we already have visual mach effects? At any rate, while a singular 'sonic boom' would be unrealistic, I don't think simulating doppler sounds for a third person camera is necessarily a bad idea.
