Squadcast Summary 2015/08/21 - Short Show, Long Summary
AlanP replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I watched it live and max was very excited! If it's a tenth as good as he say, were in heaven. I hope at some point they do some thing where a rocket can carry a rover, it doable but tight now. -
redirecting class E asteroid
AlanP replied to Cannon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Your best bet is to encounter the asteroid as much before Pe as possible, to give yourself as much time as possible to burn. you may want to capture a smaller asteroid to fuel the mission. Keep trying. I agree sharpy. At the time I didn't explicitly know his intent. -
redirecting class E asteroid
AlanP replied to Cannon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Easy does not come into it! I did an ejection from the solar system on a class D. Use a lot of SAS but turn it off for burns. Use a Rhino engine, unless you like really long burns(they'll still be long but better). setup a drilling and refinery operation on the asteroid to fuel it. You need to watch it though, as your drills will deplete the ore of the asteroid even when the tanks are filled(I made this mistake) make sure you claw and ship are aligned with the center of mass. make orientation changes far in advance of your burn( they take time to do. You could use vernor engine for changes too(more powerful rcs). I haven't done this, but you could try undocking the clap and re positioning the ship for direction changes and redock from that direction. My other question is why are 120k? I would be easier to circularize the asteroid at what ever height it is at and bring the station to it or build the station on it. Hope any of this helped. Good Luck. -
I would recommend starting with Career for a little bit to get the feel of it. Then use sandbox to try out some complex designs. Try them all and find out what works for you. It's all about how you want to play. Career has money, reputation, hiring or rescuing kerbals, unlocking building and a whole lot more. Sandbox has everything unlock already. there's even difficultly settings. Try it all because space is big, I mean really really big.

Welcome seems like you are doing well. The science processing lab requires a Kerbal scientist or two and takes time to produce science and a lot of electricity so have alot of solar panels. Hope this helps.

Squadcast Summary 2015/08/14 - Those Flipping Rockets
AlanP replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I find your summary greatly entertaining. I also like Max's Play. He's bad at it but keeps trying. That's totally Kerbal. I just keep forgetting when it's on. And twitch is not fun to use. -
I get frustrated when I mess up a rendezvous. I am good at it. or miss it because I'm watching tv at the same time. ugh! I get frustrated when I can't figure out how to get the encounter I want. Sometimes I get it dead on. I get frustrated when I get therma crashes on my computer, because of the video drive and it takes me a week to figure out. I get frustrated when the game start acting weird. It's normal. As much as I dislike it, it's life. I step back. Take some time. Attack the problem from a different point of view. I love a quote by Einstein that is something like " you can't solve a problem using the same think that created it."

Don't know. I call it Kraken bait.
-
Where is the I don't care option?
-
I think it works better in a large cargo bay. There Just isn't enough room in a service bay(i.e. Kraken bait).

What do YOU do when a new KSP is available?
AlanP replied to problemecium's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I used to set it up in a new folder. Play through Career mode, to see what's new there. The last minor updates I just over wrote the last version, as I wasn't very far along. In the future I'll probably tested out the new version for a while and then update my old one. I'm starting to build thing that are a bit more permanent. -
Orbitally assembled ship fuel flow problem
AlanP replied to NFunky's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The only thing I can think of is crossfeed enabled on the docking port? I'll keep looking and thinking. -
Squadcast Summary 2015/08/07 - The Duna Attempt
AlanP replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Great report as always. I think max is the real life jeb. go 64 -
I think the Viewing cupola is their place. Gives them a view of the mining operation. They also get to look out the window and dream of new widgets.

Do more drills do more drilling?
AlanP replied to Tazin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
From what I experienced. More drills do produce more but it is more efficient to add an engineer. Running out of power is definitely a problem, 2000+ electric per drill probably. Heating I never encounter but it is also a concern. I made one that had a rover for the mining part but misaligned the docking port so I lost mobility. Location make a difference to use the scanning parts to pick a good spot and a rover to find the best spot for ore. You get a better boost from experienced engineers. You can always change the out if you land a ship near by or even dock with it with you refueling lander ( if it had a crew capsule on it). If your playing career, do a lot of rescue missions and you will have many engineers to use. If you give me more info on how you play and what your objectives are I can offer more suggestion. Hope this helped some. -
incorrect stage only- resources?

ok then I'm on to other things. Have Fun! -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It looks like your way should work. Either the math function is not working or there's some other syntax problem. You could try printing the result of the function to see what it is doing. I'm not seeing print "booster separation @ stage" + stage:number. print "----------". in your picture. Is this picture using the script you provided? What I'm suggesting is it getting stuck after the last stage. I would post the question in the Kos forum. -
Space Station Docking Arrangement Tips
AlanP replied to Kyrt Malthorn's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Here is a different and somewhat difficult suggestion. Plan your arrival when the docking port you plan to use is facing the direction your are arriving from. Don't ask me how to do this I'm only the idea man. -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Can you have it print the value of stage:liquidfuel to see what it is returning? -
What is a "transfer" in deltaV maps?
AlanP replied to AaronLS's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Looks like it might refer to elliptical orbit with the pe in the low orbit range -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
what I was suggesting is use current fuel - 220 to exclude the next stage as the4 trigger. a picture of the script would be helpful and what it is returning. - - - Updated - - - Try this IF STAGE:LIQUIDFUEL < 220.1 -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Here's a link to a command that may help http://ksp-kos.github.io/KOS_DOC/bindings.html#stage -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
with the stage only not working, could you read the total fuel and subtract the stages fuel in some kind of if then check. I don't use Kos so it's just a suggestion. I just looked at the Kos command list you might have to you it as a function of mass. Hope it helps. -
incorrect stage only- resources?
AlanP replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
That has been broken since I've been playing, two year now. I can only assume that someone has submitted a bug report and they have not found it to be a priority yet or they just forgot about it. -
I am new to the forum but have been lurking and playing KSP for about Two years. I'm good at most of the game, although 1.0+ aero did have a learning curve. I general play career mode just to see how it's progressing. I generally haven't flown planes, except in sandbox. I use KER and KAC. MJ was helpful for a time. Hopefully I can be an asset to the Forum. I have enjoyed learning from the members and the youtubers. Thanks, I hope to pay it forward. Have Fun!!
