The MachingBird Challenge!
TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It logs lateral movement only, relative to the surface. This means that any vertical velocities are not taken into account of the measurement. That's the extent of it, to my knowledge. -
Thanks! I just swapped in the default keys and it works just fine now.

I'm having an interesting "problem" in that jet craft I have constructed (even using stock parts) find themselves rocketing past their supposed maximum 2400 m/s. This jet is built entirely stock and only uses two radial intakes for air consumption. Just exceeding 4100 m/s before running out of air at 35.1km... So, my question is: Is this a bug?

Sorry Halo_003, I do need that flightlog... -

Thanks for the correction, Spartwo. I think something is broken with FAR at the moment. I decided to fly around with one of my old test craft, and I got to 2740 m/s, with only two of the radial scoops, at 43km altitude... -

[imgur-]http://imgur.com/a/E4K2Iz[/imgur] Just remove the "-" from the first brackets. Alright, boards updated. And to answer a prior question, no, you cannot manipulate gravity... That's manipulating the flight dynamics of the world. Also, Pbhead, I kinda hate you for beating me! XD -

What exactly was dumped at 1:42:38? And... holy crap that thing is amazing. I'll try to update the board after work tomorrow. -

Alright, can't have such a system change witout adding my own entry, and I believe I outdid myself here. Once again, I used my tried and true RST-5, which is actually a backroll from my entry in .19, because this thing is actually faster for some reason. End speed: 2372 m/s! Appologies, but I cannot accept this as a valid entry. While remotech causes no issues with the challenge, and is then thus acceptable, you do not have your resource tab open. Sorry, but I need a runway shot. Please, in the future, if you're going to have a resource pre-drained... have the resource tab open on the runway screenshot. Also, that graphical change had me guessing as to if it were stock, but whatever... Also, if someone gets out and pushes, it will show in the resource usage of MonoProp. While not explicitly stated as being against the rules, it does violate them. There's no reason a craft should not be allowed to leave the atmosphere, as of this time. I'm no graphics designer... If someone wants to craft out some ribbons for the True Machingbird and Mach-6 Club accolades, be my guest, and I'll feature them in the main post! This entry is lacking an in-flight screenshot. An issue is that since the craft was destroyed, and it does not list every part that was such destroyed, I cannot actually verify that it is indeed the same craft... Sorry. Leaderboards updated for .23! -

Hi guys, sorry I've been gone so long. Stuff has been hectic since blahmas and bleughyears. I'll work on updating the leaderboards to .23 as soon as possible! -
Judging by his graphs, he is using a horizontal take-off SSTO, using jet power in atmosphere. I do agree, however, that it should be indicated what kind of SSTO you are using, and how these lifters are indeed used! These graphs don't mean nearly as much if we don't know what the craft are capable of delivering to orbit. Is your plotting utility also capable of graphing craft mass?

I'll have a look. This is a good point. Maybe I'll just have to rulemonger on that point specifically... If you don't use your engineer on the plane, then no... I don't think I'd count it as a corruption of stock status. Also, all of those other mods listed just make things pretty and don't affect craft performance in any way, so I don't see why it should interfere. Uh, I don't know why it'd be so special to do that, lest the CoD/CoL is obscenely far forward, and it'd really only be yet another thing I'd need to check for. -

Alright, you've been added! I just hadn't added it yet because I didn't know where to put it. That is a beautifully crafted plane, by the way. This would be a valid entry if the resource tab was open... I'm guessing you were just using it as an example. Alright, so... after the Xmassening, I'm thinking I will move all .22 and prior records to the second post, and start with a fresh board for the .23 entries. I'm going to need to add a couple rules detailing the use of tweakables and oxidiser, simply because if someone has a tank that can hold oxidiser that they have tweaked to not have it, it will prevent me from determining whether or not they have used any... Opinions on this? -

TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Evans, thank you for having all the screenshots and your resource tab open in all of them! Because it is clear you did not use oxidiser, I can accept this. NOW, there is no official record I can see that something was changed, but it definitely was, so... I'll figure out what to do with the .23 submissions ASAP. Unfortunately, the Xmassening is upon us and I cannot guarantee my presence near interwebbington for a week or two. barrenwaste, is your entry .22 or before, or is it .23? -
The MachingBird Challenge!
TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I agree. I'll update the leaderboard for all .22 and earlier entries that crawl in, then I'll scrounge the changelog to see what's changed, and if neccessary start a new thread. -

TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
barrenwaste, how did you get intakes stacked in-line with the base mounting nodes? I have never seen anybody mount a pod on that without cheating. Just sayin' Anyways, I intend on updating the rules later to clarify for people that the R.A.P.I.E.R. is not considered a jet for the purposes of this challenge. -

TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Err... where does it say there is a maximum altitude? I don't remember ever making that rule, and if I did, most of the entries have failed by that criteria. Unless, I gather, that there is a context I am missing and you are not actually talking about THIS challenge. I will work on updating the boards on the morrow. -

Standard procedure, anyways. Any additional entries in a given category will supercede the prior. In otherwords: DONE! -

Height ceiling? I don't remember adding such a rule. Board has been updated. Redefined [True Machingbird] to something achievable: 2300 m/s. Congratulations all those who have exceeded such a breakneck speed! -

The MachingBird Challenge!
TheHengeProphet replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Certainly! It's only limited to one entry per category. Updated for entries I could actually see as valid. If you don't see yourself up there, you can ask and we can talk about why. Hodo, I'm pretty sure that intake/nosecone combination stack is not possible without devconsole. I'm liking the entries, peeps. Sorry, I'm not going to comment on each flight this week. -

Very nice flight, Shrike42! The visage of your craft amuses me greatly. It looks ridiculous! XD Perhaps I should make a special commendation for those who exceed 2300 m/s. That would include about a third of the entries, and would provide another level that doesn't expect someone to reach mach 7... -

[EDIT] Alrighty, Hodo, the list has been updated. To answer your question, no, B9 parts are not allowed. As awesome as those parts are, lest they become integrated into the base game, I don't think I could reasonably allow them. The idea behind this being that I don't want any parts to be part of the challenge that have differing power and/or aerodynamic properties from stock parts, as they could be better or worse. In that vein, B9 parts tend to be much easier to work with, and the engines are extremely powerful.
