I have been playing long enough to discover that I am interested more in the vehicles that utilize several separate craft to accomplish a given task. I.E. turboprops aircraft and highly intricate high performance vehicles that are created under very tight design parameters. I also like to be part of the group that is leading the field in certain technology. I.E. stock turboprops. So I found that I have a lot more fun and get more recognition for the stuff I do in the world of stock engines than space travel. After all, the game is called Kerbal SPACE Program for a reason. Why should I conform to the standard when there is so much more this program is capable of?

That's EXACTLY why I don't do space travel. It's not fun. If squad actually did something so that there was a goal to achieve maybe it would give people like us a reason to actually play the game like it was meant to be played. Turboprops and cars and whatnot give a reason to do something. There is a goal to achieve and records to break.

Try taking fuel out of the tanks then. If that doesn't work just add a bigger rudder. But that depends on if you want to sacrifice looks for functionality. Ya that makes sense. It is your craft so build it how you want. I am the kind of person who makes sacrifices to achieve maximum beauty, detail, and functionality. -
YA Solar Impulse 2 flew around the world but it took 18 different stops, had a max speed of 56 mph, could only fly 1000 miles,(dunno why, cause it's solar powered) and had a max altitude of only 27,000 feet. Now compare that to a jet powered aircraft with the same wingspan. I.E. a Boeing 747-400ER O_O Max speed: 608 mph Max range: 7,670 miles Max altitude: 41,000 feet Plus it would probably only take somewhere around 5 stops to circumnavigate the world. 1st generation jets still had better performance of these 2nd or whatever generation electric planes. Another downside of electric aircraft is that electric motors are very heavy, SUPER inefficient, and don't produce nearly as much thrust as a jet engine of comparable weight and size. A electric aircraft would require solar panels covering the wings and fuselage to achieve any sort of range that could be useful. But then all those solar panels mean you need massive wings and a fuselage which increases drag and decreases speed. Which essentially cancels out all benefits of electric travel. Solar Impulse 1 & 2 are a experiment and wont lead to any development that could make electric air travel feasible. After all it took Impulse 2 72 HOURS to cross the Atlantic Ocean. You can say similar things about electric cars. They have lower range and speed. But obviously those two things don't matter as much in land based travel. Emissions are also hardly relevant.

Ya I'm impressed. How long were you actually sitting at your desk with your eyes locked on your screen? I've been playing for around a year and a half and I still have never been to Moho, Eve, Gilly, Eeloo or any of the moons of Jool. I have only gone to the Mun, Minmus, Duna, Ike, Dres, and Jool the planet. I guess I specialize in atmospheric flight and aesthetics.

When I googled dive plane is just gave me a bunch of pictures of underwater aircraft crashes lol. But I am assuming they are the underwater elevator things on the top of submarines and U boats. KSP doesn't have fluid dynamics and aerodynamic stuff for underwater so control surfaces function minimally if at all underwater. -

@pTrevTrevsHave you considered that it actually is maneuverable and dives fast but lag makes it look slower? -
You only spent 2 days building these entire cars? Wow that's actually impressive. I spent over a month of on and off work on my triple seven.

100% Scale Stock Boeing 777-200ER
Gman_builder replied to Gman_builder's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Ya I agree on the wing thing. When I was building it I was more going off memory and by the time I was done I had realized it looked more like that of a 787 or 777X. Both of which look similar enough anyway. The actual wing on the 200ER is just a little bit straighter and less swept but it looks cool as heck and I didn't feel the need to redo the whole thing so I kept the design. -

That's definitely a good point. But 1.1.3 has given unprecedented support for high part count vehicles. That plane I made is completely flyable at 10 FPS when you consider how many parts there are. On any single 450 part craft I will get anywhere from 25 to 40 FPS in 1.1.3. Which is impressive for my notebook laptop. -

Thanks man! Have you realized my plane has almost the same amount of parts as you do rep. Coincidence? *X files music plays* -
100% Scale Stock Boeing 777-200ER
Gman_builder replied to Gman_builder's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Honestly, 7 FPS is absolutely playable when you consider your flying a plane with over 1600 parts. This project has given me a ton of insight into the stability of this game build and I will definitely be making more hyperrealistic replicas in the future. -
100% Scale Boeing 777-200ER I present to you all. My pride and joy my greatest accomplishment in this game The Boeing 777-200ER "Ridiculousliner" At 63.5 meters long, 64 meter wingspan, and 1668 parts. She is largest, and best looking craft I have ever produced. I can also proudly say that it is the single most detailed, and best looking triple seven ever created in KSP. Yes it does fly, and quite good at that. However, for whatever reason all the controls are reversed. It comes equipped with Flaps, Slats, Spoilers, and Thrust reversers. along with 33,000 units of fuel to power it's massive GE90 replica engines. Sadly there are no landing gear big enough in the stock game so it has to take off with hack gravity. It uses launch clamps in the place of gear to support the weight of the aircraft during launch. It was built and flown in FAR and has a very low stall speed of around 70 m/s. I also fixed the weird wing problem seen in the screenshots. Please give me feedback! I love to hear it! Note: Kerbal Joint Reinforcement is REQUIRED. Or else there is not enough struts in the entire game to keep this thing from jell-ifying on launch. The fuselage and empennage Is completed. I have already built and tested the wing to make sure it worked so now I just have to stick them on along with the massive engines and she will be completed. I will try to do a flight test in FAR if my computer will allow it. If it crashes repeatedly I will have someone with a more powerful PC try to fly it for me, as the final part count will be somewhere around 1500.
