RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
From memory, there is a difficulty option to disable training. What are suggesting is functionally equivalent as turning that option off. Some people would consider your work-around as a form of cheating. But RP-1 is a single player game, so you can play however you want. Do note that you can start capsule training as soon as you add the capsule to the research queue. If you do that then training is typically finished in plenty of time. -
The James Webb Space Telescope and stuff
AVaughan replied to Streetwind's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I found Sabine Hossenfelder's videos on Subir Sarkar's work quite interesting. The first video (7 mins) during which she talks about his paper. The second video is a 45 min interview which I found also worth watching. Now I don't have the background to assess his conclusions, but if he is right then the expansion of the universe might not be accelerating after all. His paper is at https://arxiv.org/abs/1808.04597 .- 869 replies

RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Personally I'm not sure that would work. When I've had this issue, it seems to trigger whenever physics kicks in, so switching back to the craft from somewhere else is probably enough to trigger it. In my last campaign, I simply avoided non-physics timewarping during my manned lunar landing. @Mike106 I think certain landing legs are more problematic than others. From memory avoid the micro landing legs. (Assuming a full express install, you should be able to resize the larger legs). I've also had issues with the landing legs on at least one version of the premade LEM. I've also seen players suggest https://github.com/gotmachine/PhysicsHold . No idea if that works, or if it breaks anything in RP-1. -
RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3

Assuming your RP-1 is properly installed, and not years old, you should have a procedural avionics core, where you can select the controllable mass and the type of avionics (deep space, near earth, science core). -

The RP-1 install instructions are at https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-0/wiki/RO-&-RP-1-Express-Installation-for-1.12.3 . KSP 1.12.4 probably works, but I haven't tested it. (You might need to tell ckan to consider ksp 1.12.3 mos as compatible). -
Do you have a working and up to date Realism Overhaul install, or just Kerbalism + the RO-Kerbalism configs? I'm pretty sure the RO-Kerbalism configs aren't maintained by as part of kerbalism, but as part of Realism Overhaul. (And they might assume that most of Realism Overhaul and dependencies are installed). Assuming you do have Realism Overhaul installed you will probably get a better response on the RO discord https://discord.gg/VdsxK9p7QC

When you sell to 100s of millions / a few billion customers sure. Not so much money when you are only selling to a few 1000 customers.

The launcher also crashes for me. I'm fairly sure that the "problem" is that the launcher assumes it has internet access, and crashes when my firewall says no. KSP is a single player game which is does not need internet access. So it's launcher should also be functional enough to launch the game without internet access. If KSP2 requires internet access to play then it will be a hard pass from me. I'm not interested in multiplayer KSP and I don't want to spend money on a single player game that could stop working in a couple of years when the publisher decides to turn the servers off. @Intercept Games In the meantime I suggest you ask your publisher to fix their launcher so it is at least minimally functional without internet access. Crashing without being able to launch the game gives a really bad impression to new customers. (That is true even when there is an easy workaround, as new customers might not know what the problem is, or how to work around it).

Ah so they are still in competition with other companies for the the NextSteps lander(s), so it would be unfair to expect them to divulge anything to those companies at this point in time.
-
Are you saying companies should tell their competitors all their secrets? Give away their competitive advantages? If you just mean that government funded projects should be more transparent, I can support that in theory and within limits, but even then I don't think it is useful for them to show the public every iteration of their draft designs. Atm I suspect that any designs SpaceX have for HLS are still in the draft stage. Has NASA even chosen who will build the final lander yet? Or are SpaceX still competing with other companies?
-
I would have thought they would want at least some sort of Linux compatibility so that the game is playable on support the Steam Deck (at least for the final release. Given that they appear to still have plenty of work still to do, I can understand if they want to focus on just a Windows build for the time being). Assuming they are still using Unity, it really shouldn't cost them much for a native Linux version, so I think their is still hope there.

RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
You can design and simulate with any level of avionics (and tanks/engines configs) but you can't actually build and launch until your research finishes and you pay for the parts. -
If you are playing with Realism Overhaul, why would you want the RF- Stockalike configs? Doesn't RO + RF + Proc tanks cover everything you need for RO ?

RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Then you didn't follow the instructions. Best guess is you are missing one or more dependencies somewhere. Start with a clean copy of KSP 1.12.3, use CKAN and follow the instructions. Don't install anything other than the three? mods the express install recommends until after you have checked you have a working install. You aren't trying to install Parallax 2 are you? Because from what i have heard Parallax 2 and RSS currently aren't incompatible. -
RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Sounds like something isn't properly installed. Did you follow the installation instructions? https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-0/wiki/RO-&-RP-1-Express-Installation-for-1.12.3 -
I don't know. If you sum up all the launches between 1950 or so, and 2002 (the year SpaceX was founded), what percentage failed? I wouldn't be surprised if 20-25% failed. None of that means that modern launch vehicles are unreliable, just that there were a lot of failures back in the 50s and 60s.

Up until a few years ago I played RP-1 on an old I7-860 with 12GB RAM. A modern laptop i3 probably has better single threaded performance. 8GB RAM will be really tight. You will probably end up paging heavily, to the extent the game might be unplayable. (If you try I suggest closing all other programs, using minimum graphics settings and not installing any extra part mods).
-
They probably have some sep motors (or similar). With a suitable orientation at separation, even 2 m/s will get them a fair amount of spacing after 5 mins.

RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
On Window the windows GUI it is "Settings" -> "Compatible game versions". A little bit of research says that CKAN uses a console UI on current versions of OSX. From https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/CKAN/wiki/User-guide#Using-the-console-UI In general, you will get faster support (and often from someone better than me) on discord. https://discord.gg/VdsxK9p7QC -
RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
AVaughan replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
@Galileo chiu I don't have a Mac, so I can't test on OSX, but typically people having problems on Windows have skimmed through the instructions and missed one or more steps. The most common one seems to be : (Also Intel or Apple M1 CPU? I'm only assuming that KSP, RP-1 and everything else work on the new Apple CPUs). -

Follow the instructions on the wiki. https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-0/wiki/RO-&-RP-1-Express-Installation-for-1.12.3 -
Sending something to Earth-Sun L2 shouldn't require a disposable Starship, nor a special variant. Assuming the payload has station keeping thrusters, a refuelled Starship should be able to boost the payload onto an Earth-Sun L2 transfer orbit, separate from the payload, then make a small braking burn to set itself up for re-entry in a week or so with a similar re-entry velocity to a lunar return. (It might need extra battery capacity or solar panels, but Lunar variants would need those as well). Alternatively a refuelled Starship should have enough dV for a trip to L2 and back, with re-entry velocity a little over Lunar return velocity. I wouldn't expect the round trip to take more than a couple of months. (From memory Webb was about 30 days to L2)? So it probably needs solar panels, but Mars variants will need those as well.

If I understand Stonesmile correctly, he is saying that you also need KSP Community Fixes. You can install that via CKAN.
