  1. blasphemy, there can be only one space potato! All hail the potato moon, phobos.
  2. ... Im tracking them and slowly building up science.
  3. No, you dont, the entire reason Constellation was cancelled was failure to meet those budget and time constraints, not launches. You're gonna need to learn a lot about how budgets and schedules work before .24 comes out or you are doomed. If I don't get to work on time, they don't wait until I get to work to say I'm late. If I spend more on a project than I'm allowed, I am automatically over-budget, not over-budget once the project is complete. So far, SLS is meeting all goals, which is very good considering its first launch is slated for 2017.
  4. Well, there are a number of possibilities, such as the largest space telescope ever, much more powerful than Hubble or JWST. There is also the possibility of Skylab 2: Electric Boogaloo, Skylab II would be located in the L2 Earth-Moon Lagrange point. There's also the asteroid capture mission, ya know, the whole reason for the ARM pack. A Mars sample return mission and Martian crew transfer vehicle. We could finally probe Uranus (lol) with a dedicated Uranus probe. The Bigelow Commercial Space Stations, and possibly a number of secondary commercial items acting simultaneously as ballast. Near Earth Asteroid missions are being looked at. Stuff like that mainly.
  5. I'm pretty sure most of these arguments are just straight up ignoring the simple fact that if gravity assists didn't save fuel, then a good portion of the current non-Earth orbiting space missions would not exist or would be/have been much more limited. Missions such as Mariner 10, Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, Galileo, Ulysses, Messenger, Cassini, Rosetta-Philae, Dawn (debatable), New Horizons, Juno, Cassini–Huygens, Stardust, the upcoming ISEE-3 recapture attempt, Giotto, Vega 1, Vega 2, STEREO-A, STEREO-B (both of which used a lunar slingshot to enter solar orbit) BepiColombo. That list right there proves that gravity slingshots work and save fuel. The obvious issue is that the poster is not attmpting the slingshot at the proper time for a Minmus encounter. The math for it isnt necessarily easy, but that doesnt automatically make it incorrect.
  6. I don't get why people are complaining about the cockpit size on this thing, the mk1 cockpit is much worse in terms of size. Now my only issue (not to say that I like this beautiful part any less because of it) is the strange shape as the part tries to expand to 1 meter. I feel like that transition from intake to back could be smoother.
  7. He did, the fix just isn't working for him. That's what he said when he answered my YouTube comment about it already being updated to 0.23.
  8. I would like to suggest/request that you also keep your eye on (possibly even talk to the creator of/see about working on compatibility with) Jebnix. It looks like a fairly promising, more user friendly improvement of kOS and the kerboscript language. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/65005-Jebnix-A-kOS-Alternative
  9. I would prefer Java the most really since I took it as a high school course and it is one of 2 programming languages I have actually learned to a good extent (the other being a horrible, math-centric language known as MATLAB that I had to learn for my freshman year of college.) As for the made up Kerbal one, that would just be take a programming language, take all the commands, translate their words to spanish and write them backwards.
  10. You win the award for naming the most programming languages that I have never heard of. If he were going to base it off an existing language, I would recommend lua, C ( or any of its children languages including Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, possibly Perl,) BASIC (Which I love for its "DO... LOOP{UNTIL|WHILE}" function), possibly even something like TIBasic from the Texas Instrument programming calculators. Just something that is extremely common, that a lot of people have come across at least once in their lives, that a lot of people interested in this would already know or if they don't know it, would be extremely easy to learn. Oh, except html. I know html is very common and whatnot, but I feel it wouldn't work well at all for the purpose of a programmable autopilot.
  11. so... sort of like science transmitting takes time and has to go in packets. I wouldn't be opposed to just using the stats of the antennas and their transfer rates.
  12. I have a few ideas, though they may be kind of hard to accomplish. One would be that as you progress through and unlock more of the tech tree or just certain branches, the amount of memory storage density of the part increases in a way sort of like how mechjeb unlocks more capabilities the farther into the tree you get. Another idea is to allow the exporting of data from the game into something like a .txt so that you can log certain things, like sensor readouts or fuel usage. Lastly, something I would like to see is for it to be easy to make parts from other mods easily compatible with the system. For example lets say I want to use the magnetometer from the KSP Interstellar mod. I would like to be able to write a simple .cfg and be able to activate and deactivate it through code, and if possible, obtain the number readouts from it and print them. Sorry if any of these features have been mentioned or are on the first post. I tried to read all the posts and everything in the first post, but I may have missed or forgotten something. Edit: Oh and also it would be nice if you could work with Cilph and see if we can finally get a RemoteTech 2 compatible computer. And along with being able to tell apoapsis and periapsis, a semi-major axis ability would be nice. Also, while loops would be nice.
  13. 6 kerbals on a vehicle... Or, and I'm not sure this is true, you can go to the Remotetech_Settings.cfg and add points to the Groundstations section, but idk exactly what you would need to do.
  14. Well that might explain why I haven't encountered it, I haven't used KAS parts on my satellites. So basically, KAS and RT can co-exist, but can not cross paths.
  15. Ok, the fresh install worked for the most part. Made it past both of the pods, but crashed because too many mods.
  16. Judging from my knowledge of space history, and numerous visits to the Neil Armstrong Museum, I would say that is the Apollo Lander cockpit.
  17. Its not a stupid question at all. It does load without FASA.
  18. Have a lot of other mods though they didn't see to be incompatible before the issue started. Did delete old versions before updating. Have the FASA Remotetech .cfg someone posted a few pages back, but it seemed to work just fine with that. The issue started (this is a correlation, not necessarily a causation) when I tried to write a .cfg making the two pods DRE compatible. It however persisted after i had deleted the .cfg and deleted and re-added FASA. Will let you know how the fresh install goes when my horrible Internet has finished downloading it.
  19. Guys, this is super cereal. It's really starting to bum me out that I cant use it. I've deleted it and re-added it. I don't have any crash file for it because it doesnt crash, it just... stops. Frozen in time until I close it. I even waited 30 minutes, it was still just frozen. It didn't even give me a not responding or anything, it just sat there taunting me.
  20. Well that is an issue that you should have expected using simple logic, don't blame the mod or the modder.
  21. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, and Im too lazy to look back, but after using this for a while, it wont load up for me and loading always freezes on the mercury and gemini pods.
  22. Well crap, someone better tell all the space tourism companies that are working towards orbital space tourism that will become cheaper and cheaper over time. And no, there is no reason to send people to space, but overall there is not reason not to. It makes humanity feel good about themselves. Not to mention its freaking awesome. I agree that all space ships have a goal, the shuttle had many and it achieved them fairly well. Let me ask, why do you have such a hard-on for proving the shuttle was useless?
  23. With the Stirling engine, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. It is not an RTG, it is nuclear powered Stirling engine. It is still currently under testing by NASA, that is why it is not in use. (I should know, I asked about it during my recent tour of the Glenn Research Center.) Also you appear to be mixing up the definition of efficiency that I am using, which is understandable because there are a lot of meanings for efficiency. What I mean by efficiency is "Can it be made cheaply and without a large amount of R&D. Can it be specialized and made in very small numbers and still be cheap." and in the world of science, especially aeronautics and space, the answer is no, it can not. Ion drives have cost a lot in R&D they are not cost efficient at all. They have a high ISP yes, but thats not the efficiency I meant. Also, this is real life, not KSP, astronauts don't just float around untethered that's why they used the Canadarm for servicing the Hubble, not to mention the Hubble did not have anything to hold onto meaning you would have to make speed with RCS, which is not as easy to do as you think. To do it like we KSP players would not be possible while following the basic rules of NASA.
  24. Btw, the soyuz would be cancelled too if they were sending up the same capsule over and over for the last 30 years.
