  1. Still several days before a weekly update on the main post, but I've recently hit over 10,000 words on The Children Between Worlds. Less than a week in as well :) Maybe I'll get to 12k tomorrow.

  2. Should i change my username to Zanzalur? Its my username everywhere on the internet already.

  3. I like the YouTube channel Daily dose of Internet alot.

Always jumps straight to things in the title, and occasionally shows content im familiar with. In this case they showed a clip from Peter Draws, another great channel.

That firetruck’s impractical but cool, so it doesn’t really matter

  4. I don't want to go too political here but the European Union is *seriously* considering banning dank memes.

Im going to the Moon, its offical! Im getting the hell outta here! And im also going to build railroads there, thats also official , the royal wedding now has more views than the Falcon Heavy launch, meaning im going to *seriously* consider making a spaceflight company.

    See ya!

I can attest to what @adsii1970 said. There are indeed lots of stories at least in my/Philippine culture about these monsters, dinosaurs, or whatever they may be. These folktales come from different regions but most commonly involve creatures with wings or scales.

Some of these are a far stretch of the imagination but some descriptions  are similar with a few dinosaurs. Growing up in an urban region, I was told mostly stories by my parents of these monsters, most commonly of which are aswangs, said to shapeshift into animals who eat people. In more rural areas however, people really do believe these folktales, and take them seriously.

Now, I’m not saying this is evidence that dinosaurs lived alongside humans, but it’s good to have an open mind and speculate sometimes.

Illegal comment in a term paper. Loss of a passing grade. You cannot say "I hate this class" 97 times (yes, I counted) on a page and expect it to count as a part of the minimum page requirement for your project paper.

  8. The level of conspiracy theories and nuts never seem to know no end at all.

On an exam for an on-line class I teach about the U.S. in World War II, a short essay question simply asked what were some of the factors for U.S. involvement in World War II... and unfortunately I am not teasing you.

I had a student actually submit this response:

    Quote

Roosevelt and the Republicans in Congress saw the war for a way for the United States to steal more land and resources from both Europe and Asia. So Roosevelt ordered an attack on Pearl Harbor, very similar to the Japanese Mukden incident in 1931 to gain support for his and the Republican war effort. This class may teach the fake facts that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, but the intelligent should be able to see through the lies. It was Republican propaganda put in place by a republican congress, and at the order of a republican president.

    Yeah, um, ok...

Conspiracy theorists deny any and all logic and evidence that proves them wrong. They are literally the epitome of cognitive biases and fallacies.

    Extract:

This week marks 48 years since the lunar-bound crew of Apollo 13 ran into mechanical trouble on their way to the Moon, necessitating a life-and-death operation at the Manned Spacecraft Center -- now known as Johnson Space Center -- in order to engineer a way for the three-man team to return home alive.

I should make a list about important anniversaries each day so I don’t forget the awesome events that have happened in the past.

  12. Today marks the 13th year since the dwarf planet Makemake was first found. It was first spotted on April 3rd, 2005, two days after Easter of that year (which was also on April Fool’s Day).

  14. I just built a friggin VTOL aircraft using mk2 expansion in my personal science save, I launched and landed vertically without destroying anything, and broke the sound barrier (at least, I think I did, I was focused on keeping it stable, but there were atmosphere effects going on), there's still some links to fix, but it works pretty well. :D

  15. An interesting article. Thought I would share it...

Scientists see evidence of an ancient tsunami on Mars

    Highlight excerpt:

A new study suggests that ancient Mars not only had an ocean, it experienced a tsunami unlike anything we've seen on Earth, reports Cosmos. The study in the Journal of Geophysical Research—Planets identifies a 75-mile-wide crater in the north as the likely source, reports the BBC.(Source: Fox News)

  16. So what did you think of Chapter 5 of Infinitum? I could really use the feedback, so I know what I need to fix and/or improve in later drafts :)

  20. Quote of the day:

"There are three reasons why, quite apart from scientific considerations, mankind needs to travel in space. The first reason is garbage disposal; we need to transfer industrial processes into space so that the earth may remain a green and pleasant place for our grandchildren to live in. The second reason is to escape material impoverishment: the resources of this planet are finite, and we shall not forego forever the abundance of solar energy and minerals and living space that are spread out all around us. The third reason is our spiritual need for an open frontier."

    Freeman Dyson
    (Dec 15, 1923 -                )
Quote taken from his work, Disturbing the Universe, published in 1979

Freeman John Dyson FRS is an English-born American theoretical physicist and mathematician, known for his work in quantum electrodynamics, solid-state physics, astronomy and nuclear engineering. He is professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study, a Visitor of Ralston College, and a member of the Board of Sponsors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. (Wikipedia Commons)
