  1. Does this have to be completed in Career or is sanbox fine? Because this strikes me as rather expensive
  2. So I did it.... kinda. I didn't land on the KSC grounds but I couldn't change my trajectory in a capsule so yeah I might try again. My time was 21 minutes 3 seconds and 52 hundredths so it rounds up to 21:4. If anyone knows how I could have fixed the later bit then please either quote me here or comment on the video please. https://youtu.be/ne8xux-vSN0
  3. You have to start re entry way way way ahead of the KSC but its possible. And if you undershoot you can either glide or use any fuel you have left to fly there and then slow down and deploy chutes if need be.
  4. Well according to the wiki "As of 1.0.5, scientists do not boost the amount of science gained from recovering experiments. They also provide no bonus from transmitting data" but what they can do "They can, however, increase the amount of science generated per day in the Mobile Processing Lab MPL-LG-2." and the level/ rate of sped up science is Level zero (before any mission) Restore and activate experiments in EVA Level one 5x research speed in lab Level two 9x research speed in lab Level three 13x research speed in lab Level four 17x research speed in lab Level five 21x research speed in lab sorry i dont know why the second row is thicker than the rest but oh whale. And here's the link from which I got this information: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Scientist
  5. I would love to do this but my video recording software only goes to ten minutes and I dont think I can do an entire trip to the moon in that time. Would having a little break or two disqualify me?
  6. Yeah I used to be in the same mindset as you and this hindered my operations. But then I was like oh wait! just strap a probe core on here and now I can do all the science with Bob or someone lesser known.
  7. Well what about an SSTO? If you can get it into orbit and land it on the runway (I have yet to do this but ive been close) then it will cost you just the fuel
  8. I have a lander in high kerbin orbit waiting for the phase angle right now. Once I get Bill back from gilly then that's where I'm going next.
  9. Well, since it has been 7 hours and anyone has yet to respond I will go first. I was trying for Duna. This was my first try at any interplanetary trip. It took a few tries just to get the phase angle right as several times I timewarped past it. Then my next hurdle was the atmosphere and areobraking. I tried 5 times, 4 of them I went to low and burnt up and the 5th I just carried on right past Duna. Then finally I managed to get into an orbit with only minimal retro burns. This was my first bit of joy. I then detached my Ike probe and put it into a parking orbit so I could land my Duna craft with Jeb Bob and Bill inside ready to do some science and take their picture (they probably tasted the surface sample). This also took a couple tries. But finally I managed to land on the orange surface. This moment was one of great joy. Then I thought, "well... I have far less fuel than was I planed to have at this point but I still have 100 more m/s than this app on my phone tells me I need". I was concerned because I had only around 30 hours into the game and honestly had a very vague idea of how to get back. I then proceeded to land my Ike probe which tipped over upon landing but it fulfilled my contract. I went back and did other things in the Kerbin system while I waited for the phase angle and all I could think about was getting my guys back. This made actually getting them back one of the greatest moments that I have experienced with games.
  10. Why mod is that? Maybe my English is garbage (it is) but shouldn't it be what mod is that?
  11. Yeah I have had plenty o' craft go off of the tier 3 runway but only like 2 off the t1. Perhaps confirmation bias?
  12. I love the Career mode. I have around 150 hours into this game and almost all of them are in career. It is fun for me to feel like I actually grew my space program from just the mk1 cockpit and a solid booster to going to eve! (Which I just did but I only landed on gilly) I have used the sandbox mode but building a massive rocket and crashing it is pretty much all i see in it because if i do that in Career there will be consequences.
  13. I'm relatively sure that you can (with scientist) take data from one capsule to another but perhaps I'm crazy
  14. I dont have the mods you are speaking of but an idea I have is to have your rover with your anti matter tanks and all that but mouny a heat shield and parachutes as to make your re entry survivable. Then whem you land just decouple the heat shield and drive back to the ksc
  15. Not at all. I must admit I am sick at the moment so my voice will be a bit croaky
  16. This is exactly me. Right now im getting ready to build a minmus refueling station while i wait for the phase angle to get my guys back
  17. Why I was just going to ask a question similar to this. I am planing on building a mining base on Minmus with a fuel station either in minmus orbit or high Kerbin orbit. I would advise to do it the way i am because it would be further out (thus saving delta-v on transfer burns to other planets), it takes less fuel to get from minmus' surface to minmus orbit, and everything can easily be reusable thus it would cost you nothing to re fuel your space station. It will be pretty hard for a beginner(like myself) but it's doable and hopefully cheaper long term. I will probably make a video of it if you would like to see that and see what messed me up and any tips i have so i can send you a link.
  18. Why thank you kind sir. I just did some manual maneuvering with a lot of quick save reloading and I am now preparing to areobrake.
  19. Ah, well off this picture its rather close
  20. So I got my guys onto a course to a duna encounter but it wont let me put a maneuver node on my current orbit but just the next one. I have restarted the game several times and switched craft but still i can only put maneuver nodes on the purple(next) orbit. So how can I fix this?
  21. Ha! I got the Mk2 last friday. But honestly there's no difference
  22. Well I assume you are going for the P-80 shooting star. One thing I noticed is the lack of the wing-tip fuel tanks
  23. When during a simulation of the Manhattan project for your U.S. history class you get mad at your class mates for not understanding that a polar orbit would be best if you want to be able to target anything with the space laser you're developing. Or why RCS is needed to aim it. Or what fairings are. Or what gimbaling is. Or what orbits are. You know what maybe my class is just stupid
  24. I thought of refueling but I never thought of using it as a way-point to assemble craft before leaving the kerbin system. Thanks for the insight and yeah ill read the fine print from now on
