totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
Ultimate Steve replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I mean, if the mission in question was some billionaire paying SpaceX to make a Super Heavy Heavy for the meme and because it looks cool, then that configuration would definitely be useful. -

Speaking of alternate configurations, I wonder, if Starship ever needs an extremely big boost, if you could launch a one-off expendable stage one as an SSTO, refuel it all the way up, and use that to boost Starship super far. Maybe for outer planet missions? Although for outer planet missions a different architecture would probably be better. -
Yeah, I've been having those problems too. I think it might be because the legs/wheels are calculated using the planet's gravity, and the calculation doesn't take into account the rotation of planets, which means that the wheels are acting like they are under 13 g forces.

Seconded, it's cool! Any word about which launch vehicle it will utilize?

Oh, also, my partner and I were taking apart a robot for a class yesterday. He looked somewhat humanoid (but with wheels) so we named him after me. As I'm taking apart something, I feel something suddenly hurt in my lower arm and wrist. I say "Ow!" and as it turns out, my partner happened to be disassembling the lower arm and wrist of the robot that was named after me at that very moment. Robot voodoo.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Academic Decathlon, nooope Although, we are inside a month now, I think that may be a first, so I think it will happen in 2 months-ish. It would be cool if it happened on my birthday, March 29, but not cool if it gets delayed that far. -
That's just a bunch of text for me, @DAL59. Probably the school internet filter.

WALL-E probably turned off his antenna to mess around with his fire extinguisher, and EVE is probably laughing too hard to keep her antenna straight.

I'm fairly sure that they will have it flying before September. And as far as the actual permanent launch pads, the stuff in Florida has to contend with hurricanes as well, and I think they've gotten pretty good at that. -
Gas Planet 2? Poll
Ultimate Steve replied to KSPACE's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
100,000x warp is currently the limit. At that limit, one Kerbin year takes 1.5 minutes. Eeloo missions can take a while, maybe having a 3 year transit time if you are unlucky and have to coast a bit upwards before you come back down to Eeloo's level. That's 4.5 minutes of waiting for warp. If we add GP2 farther than Eeloo, it could conceivably take 6 years or more on a poorly planned transfer, which is 9 minutes. And maybe 9 minutes back as well... Even with an extra 10x that would still be a full minute. -
Gas Planet 2? Poll
Ultimate Steve replied to KSPACE's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I am aware of that, but I was saying that if the devs added a second gas planet into stock, they should also add the increased time warp levels into stock so it doesn't take 20 minutes of time warping to get there. -
Gas Planet 2? Poll
Ultimate Steve replied to KSPACE's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yes. But with it I'd like the ability to time warp 100x higher than the current limit. -

Probably both, eventually. -
No, I don't, actually.

Remind me about this in a few days, I will make an attempt. I am well versed in using just SRB's to do stuff.

Yup @Scotius

Despite being five hours late, because I was at a State Speech Competition, I am here! @NSEP

Musk on Musk - "I mistakenly thought i was smart"
Ultimate Steve replied to RedKraken's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well, for starters, if everyone called themselves stupid idiots all the time they'd be too depressed to get anything done, so both extremes are bad.
