totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
Ultimate Steve replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I don't want to jump to conclusions or get excited too soon, it still probably is/might be a water tower, statue, mockup for ground testing, etc. ...But what if? What if SpaceX are seriously building the first flying test vehicle of an interplanetary spaceship in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere? -

The amount of dust/snow on those towers... -

You are able to unlock a tech node without all of the prerequisites being unlocked. -

The first one is recurring, so I'll give you that one. The second one has to do with the way biomes are done... Assuming I'm reading this right and it's reading shores when you're nowhere near water. The boundaries of biomes don't update every meter, it's further than that to reduce processing power or something like that, so you can end up being in one biome while geographically being in a another... ...But shores is a land biome, so unless you're nowhere near water I can't see what's wrong here. I can't tell what's wrong in the first image, but, yeah, the second problem is a longstanding issue. -
Touchdown confirmed! Welcome back, Alex, Serena, and Sergey!

Comms restored, max G force reported 3.9. Aaaaand... Come on... Chutes should be out any second now... They're saying they should be out but they are waiting for confirmation... Not going to lie this is really nerve wracking. Voice comms established, crew feeling well, no official confirmation of chute but if they are feeling well and have comms I'd imagine it's out by now. 3.5 minutes to landing, official confirmation of chute!

Sierra Nevada Thread (Dream Chaser, plus!)
Ultimate Steve replied to tater's topic in Science & Spaceflight
And plus, spaceplanes look really freaking cool. Which isn't a major justification for building one, but I wish it was. -
Soyuz Landing in like 30 minutes.

And stream went down a second time.
-
Stream went down right as he was going into bricks.

Alright, given the intro they are doing, I bet this is live and Elon's going to pop out at the end. EDIT: Aww yeah!

But the GSLV was tomorrow originally, so if it doesn't get scrubbed we have 5 launches in 24 hours, all of which are on the same calendar date, in my time zone at least.
-
If ISRO scrubs and NROL scrubs, then we'll have 5 scrubs in a day

Most succesful launches in a single 24 period?
Ultimate Steve replied to Kevin Kyle's topic in Science & Spaceflight
But since the first three got delayed by a day, if I am not mistaken, it will still be 5 launches in 24 hours, just a different 24 hours! -

Aaaand blue origin has postponed, so only 3 today. Upper level winds are looking iffy for Falcon so maybe only 3. -
NASA streaming a BO launch? This will be a first! Thank you for magically finding a stream, this means a lot! ...Now, can you magically find a way for me to postpone my Spanish final so I have time to watch the stream? XD

I think people should know how to do at least multiplication and division without calculators, but I think once people have that down they should be allowed to use a calculator. I can't imagine having to manually calculate everything to 3 decimal accuracy while also doing trig without a calculator. Interestingly enough this stuff generally happens in Physics and Engineering rather than math, though.

Boeing, Spacex, and Blue Origin can be said to be in an intense race. Virgin technically did it but it wasn't technically space. 2019 will be very, very exciting!
-
Correction, 5 launches, 4 of which are orbital in a day. Not on the same day but all within a 24 hour period. Falcon, GSLV, Delta, Soyuz, and NS. GSLV is technically Wednesday but less than 24 hours from the others.

Aaaaargh. You reminded me that I have a Spanish final at the same time as these launches. I'm not ready for it.
