  1. Hi all. I feel like the 1.2 update is getting close to a release version, and am thus happier than in my last post. I do have a couple of questions, though. 1. While some of the settings are self-explanatory, many are not. Is there an organized guide to the settings page? 2. Is the Wiki going to get any love any time soon? So much of it is hopelessly out of date. Thanks for any help/advice.
  2. While KSP may be a hobby for you, and for many others, I consider it to be a PC game/simulation. One that, when I played it at v1.0x or whatever, was not, IMO, in release condition. I hope that v1.2 brings it to that state, so that I can resume playing/simming it again (I haven't fired it up in 155 days). Because I do enjoy KSP. In other words, I feel that we, the paying customers, have been utilized as an extensive base of beta testers, and that this product needs mods (the authors of which have labored tirelessly to make KSP enjoyable) to make it work well. I have never heretofore played a PC game or simulation that has been anywhere close to being so bug-ridden for so long as KSP has been during its development and I think it likely that Squad (or whomever takes over KSP, should that happen) will never see another red cent of my hard-earned money. As an aside, I also have a couple of (outdoor) hobbies, ones that have cost me well into the tens of thousands of dollars. I enjoy those (and the joys and frustrations which come with them) in more and different ways than I will probably ever enjoy KSP. Having said that, however, I must add that I do hope to get my money's worth from KSP, and feel that I have not, so far. Here's to hoping that v1.2 and beyond is satisfactory.
  3. Oh, and they take those "Blues," right? What are those "Blues?" -obscure Rock & Roll Doctor reference
  4. I know this subforum is for non-KSP-related discussion, but I really didn't know where else to write this... I just updated to v.1.1.3.1289 and now my left shoe won't stay tied and also when I leave a spoon in my soup in the microwave, weird sparks start erupting!! What mods do I need?
  5. I could swear I've seen the answer to this somewhere, but I can't find it again. How, when I'm placing the clamps in the VAB, do I widen (horizontally) the clamps' position? Thanks much!
  6. I'm not certain of Minmus' composition, but I *am* pretty sure of one thing: Women are made from sand.
  7. Great rec's everyone! Many of them I've read, most not; now I have a massive shopping list for my next few trips to Half-Price Books (I can, and have, spent hours at a time in their various area stores browsing the stacks). Shame there isn't a printable option for this forum, unless I've gone blind, which, in my dotage, is certainly within the realm of possibility. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Piers Anthony or Roger Zelazny; if they have, I missed it. Some great stuff by those gents. Please, keep 'em coming!
  8. Well then, sir, please allow me to respond with: I keep imagining 12 poor devs, sharing a 3-bedroom apartment, within reasonable walking distance of their workplace. One guy is always cooking, one always cleaning. Each has just enough money for the communal 3 meals a day, consisting of tortillas, beans, and rice for every meal, and their share of cheap beer, saving what they can to send ho... Er, nevermind, nothing to see here.
  9. I've got quite a bit in my collection, but I've read and re-read the good ones. I'm looking for some fresh pages! Here are some of my recos (some are not entirely sci-fi, but who's splitting hairs?): Jack McDevitt, the Academy series and Alex Benedict series, and some of his standalone books William C. Dietz, the Legion series and Sauron duology Harry Turtledove, the Worldwar/Colonization series, the Days of Infamy duology, and Guns of the South Larry Niven, et. al., the Man-Kzin Wars series Stephen R. Donaldson, The Gap series Jim Butcher, The Dresden Files series Stephen King, The Dark Tower series Whatchoo got?
  10. ^This. I've fairly recently gotten into R/C flying and love taking my park flyer/Sensei/quads out and tearin' up the real air. Plus I just love the outdoors.
  11. I almost choked on my iced tea and made vomit in my mouth; I appreciate that! Would the average console player even care about working wheels & legs? Wait... What?
  12. I, along with many, many others have been burned by Early Access games where the devs essentially took the $$$ and ran. For me, it was that $#&*@@%#% Dean Hall and DayZ. Really hope it doesn't happen with this (at least from my POV so far) excellent sim. Or Star Citizen, for that matter. I'm a big WC/Privateer fan, and they've only raised, what, over $110 mill US so far? I just know I'll never put any more of my hard-earned green into any Early Access software.
  13. Thanks for the good advice, compadres! I've seen posts where people have 40, 60, a hundred mods. I haven't installed even one yet. How does one manage that? CKAN? Or Module Manager? It's apparent that mods help "make" this sim, and that some mods are almost de rigueur community- and sim-wide, while many other people prefer a vanilla experience. I'm no stranger to modding a sim to make it more enjoyable/playable; I've been "flying" the friendly skies since MS FS1, and some mods, from individual planes to scenery to navigational aids have done so for me, while others are insanely detailed and almost like work to use. It's probably apparent that I've been reading/researching a lot instead of building (and destructifying) space craft. I'm not looking to self-hijack my own OP; I'm just looking for some helpful directional pointers. I probably should have posed the preceding paragraph in a separate thread, but I'm gonna hit "Submit Reply" and see what happens.
  14. All this has, I'm sure, been asked and answered, but I want to make sure I have things squared away. I like backups, and backups of my backups. I installed v.1.1 from Steam (since I've had a Steam account for a few years now), then upgraded to 1.1.1, thence to 1.1.2 (which I'm satisfied with, so far, knock wood, and now that I've written that, am thus Kraken-food from here forward). Soooo, what I've gathered from reading some threads here is that there are some steps I ought to take: 1. Immediately uninstall KSP and ensure there are no traces of it in my C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common directory. 2. Run a fresh reinstall and verify local files. Use the Steam install as my working/updateable copy, and drag a shortcut of the KSP _x64.exe onto my desktop if I feel like being antisocial and playing KSP in peace while not having to connect to Steam and interact with my Steam Friends, who are wondering where the hell I've been for the last 2 years or so and frantically asking me to reinstall this or that game and start playing with them again. 3. Make a couple of copies of this virgin install and deposit in places like, say C:/Temp/KSP/KSP Builds and C:/Games/KSP/KSP Builds. Update and/or just add new builds to these locations as they roll out. 4. Keep copies of my save files in like locations. 5. Continue to climb the Mt. Olympus that KSP represents. Do I have all this about right? Thanks for any advice/answers/help/corrections in this.
  15. Hi! A buddy referred me to the sim and man am I having a great time! He told me to avoid the sandbox, so naturally I went there first. Looks like I've got some science to do. Kudos to the devs and apparently extremely strong community. But maybe what I like best is that the sim is being marketed towards the educational community. Our (and I mean all) kids *need* these kinds of educational resources! Anyway, hi again and I'm looking forward to my first self-done stable orbit and onward from there.
