The only type of mods I don't like is weapons mods, if I want to fly spaceships with weapons, I'll play that kind of game. KSP for me is about peaceful space exploration. That being said, I don't judge others on how they prefer to play KSP, as others have said, we all have different ways to get the most joy out of this awesome game. I like building unnecessarily big and complex exploration vessels while others like to build interplanetary battlecruisers, while others prefer to just tinker with the "vanilla" game. That's one of the great things about KSP, there's more than one way to enjoy it.

IMO the little green dudes fit the game perfectly. Yes, it has realistic physics and all that, but at the same time it allows you to build some truly ludicrous rockets, so while being relatively realistic, at the same time it does have a "cartoony" setting. I highly doubt NASA would build a ridiculously overpowered rocket to "brute-force" a highly un-aerodynamic payload into orbit. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really put in an effort to keep the little green dudes safe as I find them quite adorable.

[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
Mjarf replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
You know what they say, if you're waiting for something good, it's worth the wait. -
Ooh, nice rings.

I started up my all new Mun/Minmus shuttle system that I've spent the past couple days setting up. It consists of the Valhalla science and refuel station and the Baldur, a NERV powered "science shuttle". It travels back and forth from the Valhalla station and Mun and Minmus to harvest raw science to be processed in the lab. I put the station in a 1000km orbit above Kerbin to simplify the logistics. The Valhalla station has a mobile lab, a hab module where the crew can rest and a small fuel depot in the back to refuel the shuttle: Baldur docking with the sation: The Baldur shuttle may look a bit weird to some, but it's proven to be a very capable workhorse. Fully fueled it has about 6km/s of delta-v, more than enough for trip to the Mun or Minmus and back. It's also a lot more agile than it looks, it turns very quickly and is easy to dock with.

KSP definitely improves my mood, it also gives me a good laugh quite often.

I took a look at your craft and it seems like you're at the knife's edge delta-v wise, KER states 8774 m/s delta-v total. It may be enough if you fly extremely efficiently, but it leaves no margin for error. I would use drogue chutes instead of aerobrakes myself, but using aerobrakes isn't wrong, it's just a different way of doing things. Your lander has 4 landing legs, 3 is enough really, and saves a little bit of weight, giving you a tad more delta-v and twr. You'll gain about 200 m/s on the lander stage delta-v by switching to a single terrier engine instead of 4 Twitch engines. You'll also get slightly better TWR. Removing one landing leg brings the lander delta-v up to 2025 m/s, with a new total of 9023 m/s, that alone makes things a bit easier. Your lifter stage looks pretty solid, you could probably lose one of the reaction wheels though. I'd add a couple of the small solar panels to the lander, they're very light and it sucks to run out of electricity. I'm not gonna criticize your craft too much, as I respect others ways of doing things, and I do not do things efficiently at all myself. I primarily play science mode as I don't like to be limited by economics.I adore the NERV engine myself, it excels at chewing fuel and producing delta-v all day long. Yes it has no gimbal and has a terrible power to weight ratio, but you can't overlook it's superior ISP. The lack of gimbal isn't that relevant once your outside the atmosphere IMO, as you don't have to fight drag and such.

KSP is truly a unique game, it's one of the few games that can make me laugh stupidly at my own crazy designs that work surprisingly well.

What is your official KSP snack and beverage?
Mjarf replied to Stealth2668's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Diet Pepsi and a bag of chili nuts does the trick for me. -
I may have misunderstood your first screenshot, it looks like one docking port is slightly further forward than the others.
-
It appears you haven't been 100% accurate when placing the docking ports in the VAB. It's obviously essential that the docking ports have the same distance to a common reference point.
-
True, at least it's a lot cheaper than being addicted to drugs.
-
Just got back into KSP after a long hiatus, hopefully I won't become completely addicted this time. I recently formatted my PC, so I'm starting fresh with a new save and stuff. I've been quite productive the last couple days, last night I built a temporary science station to farm some science. I've also kept Jeb's butt nice and toasty.

Kerbal Space Program 1.2 Loud and Clear - Official Teaser
Mjarf replied to Jarin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This looks very promising indeed. Seems like I timed my comeback to KSP very well. -
So my daughter made me a flag for my 'minions'.....

Irish Kerbals? I love it. -
KSP 2.0 - What would you expect (or wish) for a sequel?
Mjarf replied to carlorizzante's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's a long shot, but a custom 64 bit game engine with multicore support made from the ground up. It would take a lot of work, but it would truly take KSP to the next level. -
Decided to return to KSP after a long break, with a fresh start with only KER installed and all old saves deleted. Before my break I got a wee bit too consumed by KSP, and also kinda ruined the game for myself with OP mods. Now I wanna go "oldschool" again, we'll see how long it takes before i install a bunch of mods again. Oh well, here's a pic of one of todays launches in my fresh Science save:
-
Well, one can hope, at least they won't go out of business.
-
So, what you're actually saying is that the console version doesn't really offer any additional advantages? I sit very comfortable in front of my desktop PC, my chair is more comfortable than most couches. I usually chat with friends on steam and Skype and occasionally check my facebook while playing, so there's the social aspect. I also like playing with mods, so there's that. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they've released the game to more platforms, it means more income for Squad, which means they'll have a higher budget to further develop the game or possibly make spinoff games.

KSP runs very well for me, and I run several extensive mods.
-
That sounds perfect.

Did my first trip to the Jool system, in a ship intended for a Duna trip, but I changed my mind, it had A LOT more fuel than necessary for a Duna trip, so it still had enough to fly to Jool and back. It's a vessel in the new interplanetary ship class, the Freja class, it differs from the old Odin class by being sleeker and more sophisticated. It also has an open "hangar" rather than the MK3 cargobay "hangar" in the Odin class. I like making up new ship classes. Sent Jeb down to Pol to grab some science, I don't like Pol, messy little moon... Poor guy nearly got stranded, again, the solid core nuclear (KSPI) engine overheated because some idiot forgot that it needs quite a bit of cooling when he designed it. Luckily the lander got into stable orbit around Jool before shutting down, and the mothership had plenty fuel left so his buddies just had to come pick him up. Apart from the engine overheating the new lander design performed beautifully, I've never thought about using the Cupola as a lander cockpit. Made for a nice utilitarian look, and it has a quite strong reactionwheel so it's a quite agile lander. I'll return to Jool with an improved version of the new lander and do some proper exploring. Picture time: KSS Freja en route to Jool, with the new Hugin EX lander docked in the back: Arrived at Jool, the gang is eager to explore the neighborhood: Jeb landed on Pol: Got him back somehow, he was quite happy to be re-united with his mates: Watch your head Jeb, those radiators are mighty hot: Not enough room in the lab for the data, and had to ditch the lander, so Jeb had to do some spacewalking:

Ladders...and snakes, Oh my!
Mjarf replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is why I always test the ladders thoroughly before clearing any craft for launch, I have encountered this issue many times and it's very frustrating indeed.
