If you're on KSP 1.7.3 you should install from here: https://github.com/CobaltWolf/Bluedog-Design-Bureau/releases/download/v1.6.2/Bluedog.Design.Bureau.v1.6.2.for.KSP.1.7.3.zip
If on KSP 1.8.1 you should install from here: https://github.com/CobaltWolf/Bluedog-Design-Bureau/releases/download/v1.6.2/Bluedog.Design.Bureau.v1.6.2.for.KSP.1.8.1.zip
Okay, @Jebihean Kerman I made a guide for installing BDB. Hope it helps. https://imgur.com/a/TxsWJjW

Nothing quite like checking in right after a release and seeing a whole new pile of parts to look at! Congrats on getting BDB 1.6 out @CobaltWolf, and I'm looking forward to seeing these older rockets get a makeover as well.

Are you trying to put a man on the moon in 61?
I'm sorry, did I hear man on the moon in '61?
-
That looks awesome! I know you haven’t in the past, but would you be willing to add some proper fairings for these early launchers as well as the normal fairing bases? KSP and procedural fairings just can’t do some of their weird shapes justice.
-
Hey, so uh.. is there a particular reason the old titan parts look all rusty now? Or was this just a neat freak occurrence? (I'm using the newest dev version btw)

No kidding? I have never seen any images of it. All the F-1 shots I can find are naked.
I found a pretty decent image of it (easier said than done). You can see how the entire engine is covered in the insulation.

While it is true that the real life Saturn flew with Insulation (and many other Rockets before and since...) Since KSP does not allow for ablative modeling.... nah, can't be for realism. Now if someone were to make a KSP plugin that supported Ablative modeling within the B9PS arena.... THAT might be something to aspire for.
Okay, that WOULD be amazing to see. But until then my comment of realism will just have to refer to the “I want to make a Saturn that looks like the real one!” idea. Plus, it’s cool to have a thermally shielded F-1.

I must have missed it, but what's the story on the insulated F-1s? What purpose does it serve?
Realism. The actual Saturn V launched with thermal insulation on the engines.

I need to check them against the restock panels / @Nertea's newer stuff. Those all look... idk almost teal compared to mine. They are a slightly different pattern than normal - they're extra space between the columns, because Helios was only partially solar cells and the rest was polished metal to try and reflect heat. I did, incidentally, try it with the new shader but wasn't really happy with the look.
Here’s the issue I see with your solar panels just in general when compared with restock, etc. Right now the solar panels are just blueish squares placed over a grey background, and it looks somewhat cartoonish when placed next to the high quality textures of the rest of the mod. This is nothing against you, it just shows how mod has been trending more to realism recently and the solar panels haven’t caught up. It’s nothing more than another set of parts you’ll probably want to update at some point I think.

I’ve always been a fan of the old US rockets, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out! The models are looking amazing so far.

Do you have a link? The latest github release was made well before 1.7 was released.

Usually, with some exceptions, even if a mod says it’s for an earlier version it’ll still work fine. But here’s the dev branch for BDB.

Hey, it was two in the morning when I typed that. Cut me some slack! Thanks for the correction though.

SoonTM
Don't take my word for it, but I think we might actually be getting kinda close to an update. @CobaltWolf has made the main focus of this update surround Gemini, and I think he’s nearing completion on it for now (feel free to yell at me if I’m totally wrong here).
Other than that, we have the usual odds and ends that get thrown in, but we might be close to an update. Also, with no guarantees on stability, the development branch on github has a BDB build that you can use in 1.7, plenty of us on here do that.

This felt like a fitting tribute to the 50 year anniversary of our first landing on the moon!

Hmm, you know that the Transtage is only one part now and not two?
It might be about time to start removing the old Titan parts from the game. I know that’s why I had an issue finding the new Titan IV parts in the VAB a little while back. Deleted the old ones and the new ones just popped up.

I've tried reinstalling both the mod and the game a couple of times, but the new Transtage part isn't showing up in the part list, despite its' config file being there. I fully understand the development build is for testing, but this has only started occurring after installing the latest development version.
Was this on a fresh ksp install? Because I’ve had problems only if replacing one bdb folder with a newer one sometimes.
-
Now I remember why I only play with dev versions. I’m too impatient to wait to play with the new toys that are being made! I can’t wait to see that beauty in game.
-
I... huh. I guess if it works it ain’t stupid?
-
It’s a shame that except for Cassini, Titan IV didn’t seem to launch anything but spy or communications satellites. I was hoping for some pretty new payloads to launch with it.

Pardon me if I'm being dumb, but where can one find these swanky new titan textures?
Dev branch on GitHub. Standard disclaimers about using a dev install in a save game apply.
Also @CobaltWolf, I noticed on the last stream that the SRMU seemed to be a different shade of white than the nosecones. Is that intentional, or just because they’re unfinished?

Will Gemini ever be updated (mainly just the service module, as it isn’t even remotely accurate. The real Gemini SM used solid rocket motors for deorbit), since it is technically Titan-related?
I think it’s one of those things that will get updated at some point, but since there are other parts that need an update more than Gemini it won’t be done any time soon.

Fun part is over, need to do all the boring parts like autoshrouds and emissives and cfgs...
*Snip*
Speaking as I thought the “rough” models you showed us a few days ago were the final product, and I would’ve been perfectly happy to play with them like that, this blows my mind! These are absolute works of art you’re producing here.

The checkered pattern was used for ground based optical tracking. If the rocket was all white it would be very difficult to track its rotation using a camera on the ground. That's why many of the early rockets (1960s) have stripes while the more modern rockets do not. The guidance systems inside the modern rockets are
supposedlyaccurate enough so you can rely on telemetry instead of optical tracking.Cool! I had a feeling it was something like that, but the only tracking pattern I knew of was the stripes.
-
Alright, I’m kinda curious. What was the point of a checkerboard scheme on the 1st gen transtage? I can’t think of any purpose it would serve.
-
You're right, that would be a way to do it. My only complaint with that would be the fact that you'd have to manually change the plume after staging. Kinda immersion breaking to me.

Improved mystery goo or something? It still has an “organic” feel to it without actually being an animal experiment.
