  2. I just landed all of my Kerbin, Mun and Minmus space station crews before I've blasted off to Duna This. A 100x this!
  3. Thanks for a suggestion! I will check out ShieldingEfficiency. 1.0 seems too cheaty but I will find some good compromise. And note for future designs, the fewer nukes, the better. Side notes, what equations you based the radiation/shielding mechanic on? It looks like logaritmic scale to me

I've got the shielding maxed on all pods in the ship (KIS ARRAKIS left Kerbin before active shield tech was available, besides active shielding, ie generating magnetic bubble around ship should only help against external sources of radiation, not internal), and still Kerbals are soaking up those rads They just made it to Duna and now have 6 or 8 '=' for radiation in the monitor. I'm afraid they won't have enough time to make it home. Are any real live techniques like maximizing distance between engine and crew quarters, using water ballast and fuel to shield the crew applicable or are they all conceptualized as this 'shielding' pseudo-resource?
  5. Um, guys, how do I shield my Kerbals from radiation from the nuclear engines on the vessel? I'm finding about this the hard way, having sent manned nuclear ship to Duna, I must have missed it when I RTFM on wiki

I recommend all fresh players to to familiarize themselves with interplanetary navigation using Mun and Minmus as logical approximation (when you do a transfer from Minmus SOI to Mun without circularizing the orbit in Kerbin SOI, its mathematically the same procedure as going from Duna to Kerbin via Kerbol transfer orbit.) This allows you to try out for yourself concepts like phase-angels, setting intercepts in parent body SOI, departure/arrival burns, without waiting for ages for transfer windows, need to build really big crafts and all that timewarping usually required by travel between planets.

  10. That's a sweet probe! Can we have .craft? I've docked Helios One solar panel farm to Atena 1 science outpost in Mun low orbit to sustain Lab science.

  13. I'm playing with Kerbalism mod. Which means I need to keep my Kerbin stations below roughly 300km to keep them below radiation belts and inside the magnetosphere radiation shielding. For Minmus, I keep the stations at or below 100km. This way I can benefit from high timewarp settings, and yet station is short flight time away from surface. High orbits above Minmus have so slow orbital speed and orbital periods that my limited life support resources render them too expensive in flight time.
