  1. There are technically an infinite number of kerbals, but that's beside the point. I've looked more into the matter, and I came up with a viable idea. Kerbin IS Earth. Sometime (if video games have taught us anything, somewhere between 2050 and 2080) Earth is destroyed by a severe nuclear war, which not only decimates all life, but causes massive earthquakes, volcano eruptions, the works. Humanity lives on, inside great underground megacities, built either like Vault or simply a huge cavern with a city underneath it. Either way, humanity lives on, but is trapped inside these bunkers, spread throughout the globe. While a grand majority of people die out, a fraction survive. Despite radiation dissipating after about 20-70 years, give or take, humanity is so scared of leaving the outside world that they simply hide in their underground cities for thousands of years. Because of the way the cities are built, a very small amount of mutagens and radiation enter the city, enough to just barely nudge evolution. Over thousands of years, the birth-rate goes WAY down. In order to combat this, scientists perfect cloning and brain transfer. It works to save humanity, but it also causes people to look rather odd and, in fact, become a very homogenous species. Scientists mark this as the beginnings of a new species, and thus name it homo kerbalius, latin for "highly explosive man." Within 40 years, all of humanity have become members of this new species, now informally known as "kerbals." Despite widespread scientific cooperation, these Kerbals still have a sense of national identity. With over, say, 2000 years passing, Earth has about fully recovered, but because of tectonics, the nuclear war and then all the earthquakes and eruptions caused by said nuclear war, the terrain has almost completely changed. With most other nations deciding to dig deeper, one nation (you decide what particular nation I'm talking about) decides to start flying again. And so the Second Golden Age of Space Flight has started. While everyone and their mommy digging towards the center of the planet, the space nation begins to settle colonies on other planets. Said nation's government would depend on what nation it actually is. An African nation would most likely have an evil dictatorship or a well-meaning but oppressed (not oppressive, but oppressed by other nations) democracy. America would either be a democratic republic or a group of anarchists. Britain would be a---okay. You get my point. The military would most likely be the same way.
  2. Rescue Jebediah! Don't make him suffer my fate of FLURTING IN HAS TURN CORN! BREAKING NEWS: ASTRIA PORTA, KA---Dozens of citizens are rallying in the streets with banners and signs, saying "BRING BACK COMMANDER KERMAN!", "Bring Us Jeb!," "Give Us Jebeddy, Or Give Us Death!"
  3. Unfortunately, said missile's control console was rigged, and a elevator arrived. Stanley ignored the door labelled "Broom Closet" and headed STRAIGHT TO THE ELEVATOR.
  4. So, I'm gonna guess that nobody wants to play this game. But this thread shall die with honor, and courage. As such, if nobody replies to this thread in twenty-four hours, can a moderator lock the thread?
  5. Hmm. More people than I thought play this game and sign up to this forum.
  6. Hmmm... I like that idea. Normally, I just assign Kerbals ranks depending on what they do/what their name is. For instance, my comms officer is always a Lt., my EVA squad typically consists of a Major/Lt. Commander and a scientist, and my flight commander is always either Jeb or someone with multiple flights under their belt. And of course, anyone named Tom is a Major and anyone named Jack or Kurt is a Captain. I also place special attention to Gus. He's only popped up once but he's always been a lucky coin.
  7. Um... That's what this thread is about. My statement is just conjecture, but so is your statement, Red's statement, and pjj56's statement. That's why I made this thread. But that's neither here, nor there. What do you think of the military? Even a nation without wars between nations would still probably have to deal with pirates, terrorists, etc. Plus, most astronauts are either doctors or military men. Even Neil Armstrong used to be an ensign.
  8. The game is only scaled down for gameplay purposes. We can actually assume that Kerbin is roughly Earth-sized. In that case, a one-world government would simply encompass too many people to not have to deal with constant rebellion, revolts and protests. In a nation the size of America, we have to deal with a very reasonable amount of opinions. There are two major, non-mutually exclusive sides and any other side simply isn't big enough to pose a threat. With a one-world government the size of Earth, we have 18 bajillion different opinions and so many nations would be angry at the government, it would cause a ton of rebellions. I'm sure that there's a better way to explain it. Also, Kerbin is probably more like 50% water.
  9. My belief is that Kerbin's geography is similar to Earth, with a ton of different nations. A one-world government, in any instance, is impractical. Unless Kerbals don't live on multiple parts of the globe, then they have more than one nation. I think the nation is something along the lines of the Federal Republic of Kerbica or something; a democratic republic with a head of state, a senate, a court system, etc. Jebediah is either a Lt. Colonel or a Commander, depending on whether he's in the air force or in the navy. If AF, the Bill is a Major and Bob is a 2nd Lieutenant, if navy, then Bill is a Lt. Commander and Bob is an Ensign.
  10. Just a speculation thread on the Kerbal government and how it works, how the military and space program operates, things like that. What is it called, who leads it, is Jeb a Kolonel or a Kommander, etc. etc. Post your theories here. NOTE: We are only talking about the nation that uses the main KSC. That's it. I'd estimate it takes up most of the east coast of the Africa-shaped landmass, but cuts out before it starts going further east.
  11. In my signature, there's a link to my company. Can somebody resize all of the logos in that post to flag size? I have seven logos, two main logos and one for each department. Thanks a lot to whoever resizes these.
  12. This. This is why I program all my robots with a snark protocol. Makes it much easier to cope with this sort of thing. My... my god. Did this thread... die? No. It's not possible. Surely, it can't be! I won't let it be true! Err.... Um... Quick, what will rile the crowds? STANLEY KUBRICK IS AN AWFUL DIRECTOR!
  13. My main nation is Eboestrana, but I have an alt named Bracatus. Eboestrana is a democracy, with a Prime Minister, a Council, a Senate and and the Supreme Justicium. Bracatus is a psychotic, evil, oppressive city-state led by an evil Antipope who bends religion to suit his needs. Satire?! What satire?
  14. Remember; always point the rocket towards the ground. The top will flip open and give you extra thrust.
  15. Hulk is at his most powerful, Superman is at pre-reboot comic book power, and Godzilla is at his original 50's height.

  17. Yeah, I really struck a chord among the forum. 147 replies and counting.
  18. You know you're a noob when you try to land on Jool and plant a flag.
  19. MechJeb landed a spaceplane on it's rear-end. It was not pretty when that thing toppled over. I also had the Artemis 5 incident. RIP dear Kerbals.
  20. Escape the solar system using only an ion glider.
  21. Necroed implies that the thread died a while ago and someone is resurrecting it from a long slumber. But now we're getting off-topic. Please, no off-topic discussions on this thread. Where were we... oh, right. Stanley wandered through the office, searching for some clue as to where his coworkers had gone.
