@jonny wow, I didn't believe it until I saw the detailed report. you truly are a master of gravity assists. The second Jool-flip got you as well, huh? I'm starting to wonder if there is a good way of doing it at all! Maybe you need a higher velocity just like the first flip? Maybe that would make things worse. The reentry was erpeccially interesting, it's like getting the Idea of a skip-reentry to the next level. How to call that? Aerobreak-Assisted-Gravity-Assist?- 214 replies

My flags/patches for your mission [requests are opened]
Human Person replied to cratercracker's topic in KSP Fan Works
Liking, subscribing, saying "thank you". Following you, getting notifications when you post new stuff. Looking at all of it. What else could be done to appreciate? Do you want a "cratercracker is awesome" thread? You've posted those threads yourself and this is one of them. I'm sorry for being sarcastic, you probably didn't notice, but you truly are awesome. The internet is a cold place where appreciation oftenly remains unnoticed. We're just texting here, this isn't a personal conversation, we're all mostly anonymous so what do you expect? -

"Start" Science Node: How High Can You Get?

Have you seen my decoupler? I think it's a better solution than a landing booster. -
"Start" Science Node: How High Can You Get?
Human Person replied to Kermunmus's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Nice, but I've seen this somewhere before ... Anyhow, a FLEA booster makes a fine decoulper, I tend to call it Solid Rocket Hotstaging. here goes my first (failed) attempt Here's my new decoupling idea to be able to decouple the pod for reentry. fins have less heat tolerance, so they should explode more quickly. I'll have to go to the university now, i'll continue this tomorrow. -

Nope! I'm absolutely not into planes, Scotts Manleys brother is better with planes than me. The user below me never does interplanetary missions.

Jool Exploration with Mining
Human Person replied to digger1213's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's always good to bring an additional tug or two. Something you can put a bunch of fuel in and park in orbit somewhere. I designed my Vall miner/lander to be capable of merging with on of the tugs. They land together, fill up both their tanks and get back to low Vall orbit. From here on, the still filled up tug separates from the Lander, deliveres fuel anywhere in the jool system and returns to the lander wich has reserverd enough fuel to land the two back on Vall. The Engines on the tug are attached radially to be able to support the lander during ascend. -

Come on, such things happen. Tell him his mistake but don't be a <REDACTED> about it. I myself confused Harley and Chopper, I thought Harley is a type of bike and Chopper is a brand. I said things like: "Nice Yamaha Harley you got there" or "Don't buy a Chopper, you're paying just for the name" -
Welcome to the forums! Check out the tutorial-series on YouTube by Scott Manley. Watch them and you'll land on the Mun in no time!

@ManEatingApe Nicely done! What a brave move of Burbarry to completely eyeball such a close flyby of Kerbin. on one picture, you can see that the Mun-encounter and Kerbin Periapsis are only 11 minutes apart. He must have had a nice view there. I added the new Badge made from the artwork of @cratercracker . I made it into an irregular octagonal shape, hope you like It.- 214 replies

Wow. I'm a big fan of Matt Parker but ... Wow.

My record for staying awake is 5 days in a row. I't wasn't intended, I was forced to stay awake because of a sickness. I litterally had to get up in a period of no more than 10 minutes for 5 days. After that followed two days of short naps (at first for just a few minutes, but the got longer soon) In was terrible and I would rather break my own arm than having to do such a thing again.

Hands down, where have you not been in KSP so far? I made a list which I'm going to work through. I've never been to (landed on) - Gilly - Ike - Dres - Laythe - Bob - Pol - Eeloo Why? I dunno, I was just shocked when I realized how long the list still is.

I guess people who don't go to space simply haven't got enough boosters. This applies not only to KSP, but also to real life. Boy, if I had enough boosters, I'd be going to space every day of the week.

Human Person replied to Human Person's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
So your mission duration was about 36 years? Intersting approach, nice and "easy", extremely light. Maybe you should have invested in a RTG to make the aphelion burns less tedious. Your mission report begins and ends in Kerbin Orbit, what did your launch vehicle look like? I assume you had a return pod on the LV to recover Burbarry?- 214 replies
