Sorry if I sound bitter, but skill level really doesn't matter all that much in any situation unless you're making money from it. That doesn't mean it's not somethign to be proud of, as long as you're not flaunting it, which AFAIk no one in this thread really is. On-Topic: I can land Kerbals on Dres, but returning them is another matter entirely, which means I'm at "interplanetary travel".

I sent several probes to Minmus in an attempt to "analyze its composition". First mission was an LCROSS-type mission that involved slamming an object into the surface (in this case a small probe) and flying the main vehicle through the plume. Of course none of this is implemented in the game for real (yet?) so I had to use my imagination. Then I landed a sample return mission that took soil samples from various landing sites and returned them to Kerbin. As none of this is officially in the game yet, I decided to make up a composition using science. Minmus is mostly made of some type of salt, with trace amounts of water and even smaller amounts of other material. My next mission is to send another lander to "determine the origin of the large, smooth plains that exist at 0m sea level" and also take and analyze more samples.

Would you delete stock parts to stay under the 4 Gb limit?
AlternNocturn replied to nhnifong's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I wasn't even aware it was possible to delete stock parts without breaking the game. -
Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one. Every mission I've planned and rocket I've designed, I've dreaded the eventuality where I will have to wiggle this thing into orbit. The first few times you master it it's fun, but after doing it for the thousandth time, it just drives me bonkers. This is why I've taken to using MechJeb for ascents. The motion is ingrained into my muscle memory so I won't have to worry about forgetting.

Are you serious!?!

Does anybody actually use the "Tools and Applications" forum?
AlternNocturn replied to CoriW's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think the forum admins should rename it to something more inviting, like "External Add-ons". Other than that I have no idea how one could prevent Tool and Applications from being a death trap for awesome KSP-related applications. -
My only suggestion has been noted numerous times throughout this thread, and that's to try MechJeb and learn how it does the things you want to do, then try playing without it. This is how I learned the game so I can vouch for the effectiveness of this method. If you want you could even reinstall MechJeb later on to automate just the tedious bits of the game. If not, you could always keep watching tutorial videos.

You can do that!?! O_O

No. KSP calculates physics on the CPU and the Raspberry Pi doesn't have nearly the computing power.
-
So did KSP a year ago.

This means that that little "Career" radio button on the New Game dialog is going to be clickable, and that makes me tingle with excitement.
-
Not yet, but once I pick up my stranded crew from Dres orbit, I will. I've always had a fascination with empty, derelict spaceships, and most of my past saves usually had at least one. I love leaving stuff behind.

This is absurd. The game is still in development, those "shiny new toys" are actually Squad building the game up, not tacking on new features. Not to mention there are bug fixes in every update and the chance of these bugs being fixed by the time the game officially releases are very high. EDIT: and before I get branded as a fanboi, the way game development works in general makes it generally a bad idea to stop working on the core game partway through to fix bugs that may end up just showing up later once they introduce something else. Yes, they need to fix the bugs. Yes, they need to fix it ASAP. But they can't just stop working on the game to do it.

I felt the same way with Minecraft. It was so much fun when I first started, and now I can barely be bothered. There was one time where I decided to shake things up and generate a world that was entirely desert. It actually forced me to come up with creative ways to gather items because there were no caverns in the entire world, no trees in the overworld, not even cows, chickens, or pigs spawned. It made the villages absolutely essential for wood, water, lava (for nether portals), regular dirt, and food. Anything I couldn't get naturally, I had to trade for. It got me back into the game for a while. Try coming up with something like that for your KSP game.

Mun, rhymes with "fun", because that's how it's spelled in game.

I landed on the Mun without MechJeb
AlternNocturn replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Grats, now you'll be able to land anywhere! Now I'm going to leave before the argument starts. -
Bring back Gigantor Solar Panel attachment!
AlternNocturn replied to Rhyunix's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Wait, when did the Gigantor have an attachment bubble? -
Performance Issues Need Addressed
AlternNocturn replied to Caelib's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Performance improvements are in every update, don't forget that. If something breaks and the game starts to play like pants you can almost guarantee that it'll be fixed within the next few updates. Also, this is in the wrong forum I think. Because forget the fact that game development is difficult, if they don't do something you want obviously they're being lazy. -
Is it bad to use KSP mods?
AlternNocturn replied to Mantis Toboggan's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Short answer: NO Long answer: NO. You're a PC gamer, you're supposed to embrace modding. In fact I don't know of any PC game aside from online games and straight console ports where you can't mod the game. Obviously it's not a bad thing under any circumstances. -
Custom Control Pad + Sneak Peek video
AlternNocturn replied to L.J. Silver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Ooh, really cool! If you ever decide to port this to Android, I'd be happy to help you beta test it. -
Anybody else here see the Apollo 11 landing live?
AlternNocturn replied to Gus's topic in The Lounge
I wish I'd been around to see a Moon landing, that would have been awesome. The most the most the people of this generation have to look forward to is a possible manned flyby of Mars in 2018 with Inspiration Mars, a possible Mars landing by 2025 (unrelated), yet another Mars rover, maybe an asteroid mission that may or may not happen and possibly a return to the moon. I'm not even allowed to be optimistic about NASA any more. Private space companies are our only hope if we're ever going to go anywhere. -
Neither. You're comparing a pressurized habitation module containing heavy life support systems and a bunch of heavy supplies with a plane cabin built to be light and containing much lighter life support systems meant to be used in an atmosphere.

Okay, guess I *won't* be reporting this bug after all...
AlternNocturn replied to Tiron's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Then don't. If it's such a hassle leave it be and continue playing the game. -
The new description system is so awesome.
AlternNocturn replied to cesarcurado's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've started adding them once I realized they showed up when you selected a vehicle from the launchpad on the space center. I've added KSP-style tongue-in-cheek descriptions to all of my 0.21 creations so far. -
Awesome! Also I have nothing nice to say about the entitled little... people... that tweeted at him.
