New Mun's highest point?
AlternNocturn replied to PTNLemay's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Whilst attempting to rendezvous around the Mun, my periapsis dropped to about 5.2km and I came REALLY close to some mountains, but never hit them. Perhaps the new minimum is somewhere between 4.5 and 5km? -
Realistically, I'd like the continued development of career mode and POSSIBLY the inclusion of mining/resources gathering.

No End Flight?
AlternNocturn replied to kiheerSEDMAN's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yep. It completely undoes the mission/launch as if it never happened. -
No End Flight?
AlternNocturn replied to kiheerSEDMAN's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You can end the flight by either reverting back to VAB/SPH (acts like the mission never happened) or by going into the Tracking Station and either terminating the mission (destroys it, Kerbals die) or recovering it (only works when landed on Kerbin). Also the Abort button is only for the "Abort" action group, not for ending the mission. -
The corniest Easter Egg idea out there.

Having finished reading H2G2 the other day, I finally get all of these references! -
Campaign/Career mode seems very dull to me
AlternNocturn replied to Hiddos's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Sandbox isn't going anywhere dude. Career and Sandbox will exist side-by-side. -
Squad gives us access to their game early and some people want more. Oh, gaming community...
-
That is not how it works. The devs usually reply to complaint threads and then push a hot fix later on that fixes it. You don't need stickies or apologies or whatnot, that doesn't fix problems.
-
This isn't new, I've been getting Billy-Bob(x) Kermans since 0.14 (or whenever persistent saves was implemented). I don't know how they managed to evade you for so long.

Say it here if .21 works perfectly for you
AlternNocturn replied to stupid_chris's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Nope. If you go into the training facility and look at the "Lost" tab, you should see Jebediah with the words "missing in action" next to him. I lost a Humnard Kerman and that's what it said about him in that tab. Eventually he reappeared in the "Hire" tab. -

I'm having no troubles with the update. -
Come back old ASAS - all is forgiven!
AlternNocturn replied to ComradeGoat's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm building a miniature space station in orbit around the Mun, and not once have I had a problem with the new SAS regardless of the fact that I'm still getting used to it. I don't understand the complaints. -
What's the first thing you did with the new patch?
AlternNocturn replied to Whackjob's topic in KSP1 Discussion
First thing I did was launch a probe to try out the new SAS. After I determined the new SAS was a godsend (or a Squadsend), I sent a mission to the new Mun and landed in one of the new craters. Solid update. -

SAS has worked fine for me so far. And we shouldn't forget how well it handled Yargnit's massive Saturn V replica during the KSPTV Marathon. Your rocket design is probably flawed. -
do you agree greater hype = greater disappointment ?
AlternNocturn replied to lammatt's topic in The Lounge
With pretty much every KSP update, the end product always matches or exceeds my personal expectations and public "hype". In some cases, yes, that is true, but in others, not so much. It's really hit-or-miss when it comes to entertainment. -
what version of the game did you download first?
AlternNocturn replied to duncan1297's topic in KSP1 Discussion
bought the game a few days after 0.14 came out, but the first version I downloaded was either 0.9 or 0.10 EDIT: scratch that, my first version was 0.8.5. It was right before struts were implemented. -
The game would probably be exactly the same. They might make Squad develop a sequel with multiplayer and/or charge for DLC (like every company does), but that's about it. I just don't get this massive EA hatred. It's not like they kicked your dog, they just publish video games. Granted they do some questionable things but it's really not that serious.

Oberth effect - intuitive explanation(s)
AlternNocturn replied to Cheaterman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Anyone here played Metroid Prime? Remember the boost ball ability, how difficult it was to get the hang of the first time, but then eventually you realized that you needed to boost right at the bottom of the halfpipe to build up enough speed to get to the top? I think it's the same thing concerning the Oberth effect. -
At one point, I was calling my Russian-based space program the Keschanka Union, which is actually K-syndrome for "peschanka", meaning (according to Google Translate) "gerbil".
-
I don't know if it's still updated, but there was a mod by DeadBeef called Dynamic Warp that let you warp faster than the game would let you at certain times. So I'd be warping around at 20x time warp at 100km for example.
-
Updates are released at the same time, but judging from my past experiences with the Squad store (sorry guys! ), Steam users get it quicker.
-
Ahh! And here I'm stuck (well, I chose to do it, but still) collecting the last of my free drops from Offspring Fling. Also does anyone know if the developer gets paid if I buy a card from their game?

KSP cheapest for now on Steam or becoming even cheaper?
AlternNocturn replied to galaxy366's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Excuse me while I go unlock all of the cards. -
I've tried the Windows 8 previews, right up until the Developer edition. I know, I know, glitches, bugs, unfinished, etc., but I ignored all of the obvious bugs and looked at the underlying system objectively. What I saw, I liked, and at one point I've even used the Developer Edition almost exclusively for a while because I liked it despite some of the minor glitches and odd things. Eventually though, it fell out of favor with me because of how tedious is now was to open up simple things like Computer and Control Panel and also to configure devices etc. I prefer Win 7's streamlined Start Menu version. My ideal Win 8/9 would be: bring back the Win7-style start menu, keep Metro and dumb it down for the PC, having it only as a place to organize files off the desktop, let me choose between starting up in Metro and starting up on Desktop, and get rid of or revamp the "Ribbons", and I will be a happy camper.
