1. This depends on the settings you use in the config file, certainly your suggestion for redundant engines will work. The tick frequency and the failure probability per tick can be adjusted in the config file, but is adjusted based on the size of your rocket, more parts => higher probability of failure. Currently failures will happen at warp, but I intent to reduce the frequency or disable failures entirely. I like the idea of potentially initiating failure on special events, thanks for the idea
2. This thread is probably more suited to this forum.
3. This scenario introduces random failures to your ships, in what is essentially the same as the sandbox mode of the game. The aim of this is to add an extra layer of difficulty, by requiring the player to design craft which are able to withstand failures, for the duration of common objectives such as landing on the Mun. Features Part specific probabilities for explosions. Part specific probabilities for parts detaching. Fuel leaks. Probability of failure scales with the size of the craft User modifiable failure rates The default difficulty is far too high and is for demonstration purposes only. This can be reduced by altering the values in KSP/PluginData/kgss-scenario/config.xml, specifically by lowering FAILURE_PROBABILITY from 0.5 to 0.01 This is still a work in progress so any bug reports and suggestions are welcome Download and installation instructions can be found here

Skunky is back

Welcome back onboard captain
5. Welcome to the forums :DYou will need the full version of the game for plugins. If you have this, then in general to install a plugin you must:Copy the .DLL files to the KSP/Plugins folderCopy any parts folders to the KSP/parts folderYou can ignore any .cs files.Happy engineering!
6. 1. These permissions will be given 10-30 minutes after your 5th forum post. 2. This and 1. are a crude, but highly effective means of preventing spam bots from polluting the forums. 3. I have a vague memory that this bug is known and being fixed, but I would need to find a source to verify this. Happy Engineering!
7. First and foremost I use Windows 7 on my laptop, basically something friendly for web browsing and writing. If I need to do any serious work I use whatever distribution of Linux I happen to have on hand, currently I use Fedora in a virtual machine or Debian on various workstations. It has been a long standing goal of mine to apply computing to science, and it is only recently that I have started to realise this aim. This opportunity came in the form of a learning exercise based around a well established fluid dynamics simulation. The goal of this exercise was to improve the simulation, so that it was amenable to run on multiple cores. When this was completed, the execution of the simulation was reduced from several minutes to under a minute. While this was interesting in its self, the really interesting part is the visualisation of the simulation, which shows the effect of a fluid flowing past a cylinder: The white areas represent areas of high angular velocity. This effect can in fact be seen in nature, as shown by the following picture from Wikipedia of an air flow past some Chilean islands.
8. Try rotating through ships and Kerbalnauts in the immediate area with the "[" and "]" keys
9. Sleep was very much sacrificed when I first got the game. Happy Engineering!
10. Welcome to the forums, I will answer some of your questions 1. The price will go up slowly until full release 2. When you buy the game you are pre-ordering the full version, therefore you get access to all updates up to and including the final version. 3. Follow the instructions provided with each plugin when you download them. Plugins do not work with the demo version. 7. You may land on all the planets. 9. Intakes currently have no function, but this will be added in later updates. Happy Engineering!
11. Welcome to the forums It might be worth checking out the Spacecraft Exchange forum for interplanetary lander examples, however I do not know how many of the ships in there will still be relevant due to the proximity of the last game update. There are a few forum privileges which are withheld from new users as a spam prevention measure, such as signature editing and attachment uploading. These privileges will be automatically given up to 30~ minutes after you make your 5th forum post Happy Engineering!
12. Unfortunately there isn't a button for it on the GUI, but you add them like this:
Content
Effect: Content Cool theme
13. Awesome work If you have any articles you wish to write, just contact togfox
14. Welcome to the forums, it is interesting to hear that you picked the game up after the xkcd mouse over Happy Engineering!
15. It does indeed look awesome, Total Annihilation was the first computer game I owned, but it has been discussed here (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/17239-Liked-Total-Annihilation-Then-you-ll-love-this)
16. Welcome to the forums You can make bug reports in the Bug Reports sub forum, where the test team will take a look at them (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/42-Bug-Reports) Suggestions can be placed in the Suggestions sub forum (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/41-Suggestions), though make sure to read the "What not to suggest" sticky as there are certain topics which come up repeatedly Personally I play the game pretty backwards, I follow the instructions of those more knowledgeable, then when I can do the mission routinely I dig lightly into the maths so I can understand where these come from. Happy Engineering!
17. Welcome to the forums I felt a similar sense of not allowing myself to join the forums until I had achieved a certain task. For me this was successfully landing on the Mun, needless to say it was a while before I signed up Happy Engineering!
18. Welcome to the forums Happy Engineering!
19. Hola henryrasia, thanks for your feedback It is less of a magazine design vision and more of a scientific journal design vision. As such the articles are the core, and are presented in a similar fashion to academic papers. In addition to this we also include magazine elements such as the photography page and the KGSS challenge pieces. Since the articles form a thread through the journal, the magazine elements can essentially take any style the author wishes without upsetting the underlying theme. We would indeed like to include more, but that depends on the external interest and input the journal receives.
20. Welcome to the forums! Awesome craft , I am a big fan of asymmetric designs.
21. Yet another option if you have the Alpha version and you are feeling brave, is to use the height maps in the following post: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/10088-Invention-Kerbin-Geographic-And-Science-Society?p=159942&viewfull=1#post159942 Pick and landing spot and find the approximate terrain height
22. Welcome to the forums The permissions to make these changes will be given a short time after you reach 5 posts, these measures have been put in places simply to hinder spam bots. Happy Engineering!
23. Indeed, it is in the rules so we do not need a sticky for this. Locking the thread.
24. Welcome to the forums , hopefully we will see some of your designs appearing in the Spacecraft Exchange sometime soon Happy Engineering, Rich
