  1. I'm not familiar with the naval battle league but I'm not sure this physic exploit will be welcome. Happy exploration and good luck for your battles. Great !
  2. I made a try to make an helicopter with a rather bad result, but the wing surface was very limited and I quickly move to big wheels to destroy the KSP... I guess it can work. My main concern is about the resistance of the pivot with very powerful engine. Thank you for the move, it's probably better suited for the Spacecraft Exchange =) Congratulations for this first magnetic fly ! Can your Zeppelin reach orbit with kraken magnetic drive ?
  3. Thank you for your interest ! Well the first one was just to prove the concept, I did not even think about making it beautiful (except the nose cone, I love nose cone). In general I try to have an aesthetic in my ships but I don't think simplicity would the word for it, I love intricate design
  4. I had fun with wheels... Reminds me burnout...
  5. Don't hesitate to share the results ! I'm curisous I hope you will have fun ^^ I forgotten about this video... Thank you for the reminder ! Unfortunately I've not destroyed the planet with my engine... Sad... Thanks !
  6. During the construction of my space station I noticed a problem of uncontrollable rotation. A quick search for the problem origin shows that the magnet of the advance grabbing Unit (AGU) was still active and this was creating a strong torque. During some experiments I also discovered that the AGU was particularly attracted by motor parts. So I decided to make a little experiment to see if I can make an engine with the AGU... And well, it works. The first test was difficult because of the electric consumption of the magnet : roughly 100CE/s at full charge. Since this first experiment I made a deeper exploration of the Kraken Magnetic Drive... For the construction the AGU must be on top of the engine target, both must be aligned or you will create torque. There are three parameters affecting the KMD thrust : The power of the magnet can use to throttle up or down your engine, it also change the electric consumption The distance between the magnet and the target, there is an optimal distance between the two, too far the engine lose thrust (but can still be usable), too close you no more have thrust The mass of the target. The KMD gives a thrust roughly equal to 10 times the mass of the target, this for the same electric consumption. The S3 Vector gives 40t of thrust at max magnet. I tested with several motors in front of the magnet but only one motor is taking into account. The KMD works in space or in atmosphere without difficulty, I made planes with it. Since the power requirement is high I used nuclear reactors for electrical supply but it works with solar panels or PB Nuk. I've noticed no kraken problem with it, the game seems to perfectly accept this kind of engine. I don't think I will use this kind of engine in my game because it's an exploit of the game physics and make all other engines useless. But it can be interesting to use it if you want to make science fiction spaceship. Edit : This is working thanks to Konstruction Mod, this mod is bringing the magnet feature to the AGU. Thank you @Geonovast for the correction !
  7. I continue my tests with the magnetic kraken drive... I made a space plane with two MKD and a nuclear core for power supply. The plane barely reach 200m/s at sea level but the top speed slowly increase with altitude, you can expect Mach 1 at 10000m. Passed 20000m there is no more limit and the plane can reach Mach 5.
  8. During the test I made the stability was a problem during the early phase of the fly since large solar panel don't like high speed and high acceleration in atmosphere. So I had to keep the acceleration level making the vessel difficult to control. Then out of the atmosphere it works just like other ships, you just don't have gimbals. I did not face kraken problem. I made a rather long burn to reach a velocity enough to escape kerbol without facing problem. The game seems to think this kind of propulsion is normal.
  9. Yes it is. There is no docking involved. I could have make it without the big structure just by using the shift mode but I prefer it like that. Of course you can make it inside a structural tube to make it a proper engine.
  10. Today I put something in orbit without using any fuel... Just power of electricity and magnetism. The main difficulty was to keep a speed low enough to not break the big solar panels. Of course you can make it nuclear and remove this difficulty. Of course since it's not using fuel you can reach unlimited speed. Beauty of Kerbal physic...
  11. It's not really surprising, the statoreactor technology was good in the 50's but did not give birth to useful planes. The griffon was a prototype using the same technology but with a good aerodynamics, but it as been stopped due to the ON OFF behaviour of the statoreactor. Basically it's good for missiles (France is using a statoreactor technology one some nuclear warhead missile) but not for planes, unless you want to go hypersonic.
  12. The plastic part is the canopy of the plane, the pilot was lying down in the cockpit.
  13. Well, it can works with only one The choice for four engines is a combination of style, maximum mass (I want to keep the ship below 100t at launch ) and TWR. I made tests to see how much engines are required to have a TWR of 1 and the result was something close to 30 engines, clearly not the style I want for the ship.
  14. I'm working on a spaceship to visit Duna with 3 kerbonauts, what you see is not the final design, I have still some work to do on it. This spaceship is equipped with a lander which will let a Duna surface a working probe. Before leaving Duna the landing ship will be transformed in a small relay station.
  15. Yesterday was Duna day for me ! I placed two probes in orbit of Duna and Ike and land three rovers on Duna. The main probe in orbit of Duna is quite big with 36t at launch and 19m long, the main dish for intelligence search is 52m in diameter. The last rover had some difficulties at Duna south pole while it was trying to reach a point with some sun exposure. Now I must think about putting a kerbonaut on Duna.
  16. The first space station of my Kolonization carreer is now active ! There is enough room and supply for 4 kerbonauts during more than 1 year. Now tourists want to visit it.
  17. The munabug is the first rover sent on Mun. This exploration rover is large enough for 3 kerbals and can provide supply for 4 days, the battery storage is enough for a full Mun night. The front fuselage hold a drone core for remote control.
  18. I placed a rover on Mun this week to help the surface exploration for my small team.
  19. I've sent a proper rover on Minmus that can be used by kerbal or by remote control. My courageous explorer have found it near their landing site and used it to study Minmus geology on various places. In front of the Minmus Grand Hotel. First time I use USI life support habitation in the design of a vehicle, very interesting. Finally I discover a problem in my calculations.... Not enough delta v to return on Kerin (80m/s missing)... So I launched a rescue mission with supply and fuel. Hopefully the habitation time was calculated with enough margin.
  20. I'm sure kerbals are not from Kerbin, they arrived with flying saucers and probably forget their past... That would explain why their main interest is space, they just want to go home. What append to Kerbin"s original habitant is a mystery.
  21. I like SSTOs, probably because I like science fiction =)
  22. Looks like a very interesting mod, I'm in a new career and don't have any strategy yet... So I will try this !
  23. I'm in the beginning of a new campaign and I placed on Minmus my first rover And this was a bad idea... The small wheels and the big body gives a terrible result on Minmus.
