Yes, the point of this challenge is to engineer life that can live on other solar systems without our help, not make them thinking goo (which is a term I now like very much) that lives in the middle of the Marianas Trench. They'd basically use their version of EVA suits if they wanted to go to another celestial body like Earth. Sort of like us humans going to the Moon, we need a suit to seal ourselves off from the outside, they would too.

That's really great, thanks for the help and thanks for the great work you guys do around here.
-
Possibly. Bioengineering should be able to make pretty much anything. From ultra strong creatures that have built in Hydraulics in their bones (and bones capable of withstanding the required pressure) to living Exoskeletons and Humanoids that could thrive in Acid. What's not to say that they couldn't change the way they respire or even do away with it entirely?

Ah I see you're from that time. I need you to do me a favour, could you please find me my Russell's Teapot. It's somewhere in between Mars and Jupiter, somewhere near the Asteroid belt. I think my plan to use the sun to heat it up went just a bit awry and it ended up in the Asteroid belt

KSPIE's various modules
HyperDraco replied to HyperDraco's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Thank you, I was planning on making a Discord in the first place, now I have a new reason to. -
That is true but does life need to built on oxygen, being able to use a separate set of materials allows it live and adapt to incredibly different conditions that humans would not be able to live in. They may be less active or physically weaker but that is a trade off that may well be worth the boosted diversity. And a simple solution to lower energy is to simply increase the amount of reactants in the first place so that it's equivalent to a predetermined standard value.

I believe that the notion that life can only exist with Oxygen and Water to be somewhat wrong. Just because it happened on Earth to such a large degree doesn't mean that it's the universal norm. Life could very well form under different circumstances. I mean, what's to say far off some civilisation doesn't exist which relies on Sulphuric Acid and Hydrogen gas to live instead of the usual Oxygen and Water. And we could probably replicate them with advanced enough techonology. Sentience could be formed in any number of ways, it doesn't necessarily require a giant brain like ours (relative to the size of our bodies) and millions of years of evolution. It could be stimulated or kickstarted kind of like and engine. And by such logic, Bioengineering could make sure that their minds never have the capability to transgress the limits of animal sentience or will not be able to mutate a larger brain. Of course this is my view and it's probably not as informed as many people who know better than me

How does it feel to be a mod and what are your daily responsiblities

I'm going to go out on a limb and agree with @Snark here (on a limb as I'm not nearly as experienced as most of you guys are but I have a fair bit), a Suicide burn seems to be most suitable landing method to me if you want a good mix of relative ease and somewhat acceptable efficiency. Of course this requires you to sit the landing through without using timewarp to a very large degree as you need to know when to begin the retrograde-hold burn, after that it's a simple descent. And as was afformentioned also, undergoing this method of landing is an absolutely terrible decision when your descent is very steep or nearly vertical; Avoid the use of this method in such a scenario unless absolutely necessary. I think a higher TWR may be more optimal for this although it could work with a lower TWR, higher efficiency engine with longer and more sustained burns which keep the speed low. I also get this from the post made by @ManEatingApe which does also hold a lot of value, you cannot disregard maths, and since he made these calculations, i'm going to go and use them. A higher TWR is more optimal, and if yours is a small lander with a decent engine and a relatively small fuel supply (as are mine), your TWR will most probably be a value higher than 1. However if we take that yours is a large one with a low TWR of about 0.6 or something like that, you will incur much lower losses by using a fixed attitude burn. If you have the excess fuel supply and can fit it in your launch vehicle, I'd recommend a Suicide Burn, but if you go with a more risky, barebones heavy lander (barebones in terms of decelerating power and lower fuel margins), take the Fixed Attitude Burn. Although the earlier comments are also very true, the less time you spend accelerating, will result in less time spent decelerating (relative to the gravitational attraction exerted by the celestial body) thus leading to less fuel usage, the fastest way to get to the surface (and as such the most dangerous), is the suicide burn which by that sense becomes more efficient. In my case the most risky landing I pulled off using this method was when my craft was unfortunate enough to not have a peripasis with an Eve encounter, but rather a direct course to Eve's surface. I managed to decelerate the entire way and killed some 3600m/s of speed over couple of the most terrible minutes I've spent playing KSP. Overall, I'm not as qualified as the people above to give a definitive answer, but I could give my two pieces about it and why I think it's the Suicide Burn.

I don't really think that's an option anymore in the stock game unless you look at some mods which probably makes it easily solvable. I could be wrong but that's what it seems like to me.

Is this... normal RAM usage???
HyperDraco replied to Frostiken's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is fairly normal i'd say. My game file usually uses about 5 or 6 GB on average while loading and goes up to 10 or 11 when in actually high intensity situations. Then again I run fairly heavy mods and seeing that your mods are smaller/lighter and fewer in number makes me think that something is up or you're running ultra heavy mods like KSPIE or some extremely large Kopernicus Planet packs. -
Banned for not knowing I visit Japan fairly often and know martial arts so I know about the history of the ninja

You are given 25,987,544,424.5 G's of force on your being which crushes you instantly I wish for my perfect chicken sausages to become holy and that they cannot be wasted

1. Use Timewarp 2. Timewarp so hard you hit the ground and blow up without a chance to do anything (Atmosphere didn't even register) 3. Reload Quicksave and realise you last saved it when you launched the project 4. Give up and use the Set Orbit cheat to somehow catch up with the 3 hours of wasted time. 5. Make jeb empty half a jug of preffered warm beverage to drown out his sorrows 6. Fly into the Sol/Kerbol

HyperDraco replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
Didn't know what time it was when the lights were low-ow-ow I lean back on my radio-o-o Some cat was laying down some rock'n roll 'Lotta soul' he said... Then the loud sound did seem to fa-a-ade Came back like a slow voice on a wave of pha-a-ase That weren't no DJ that was hazy cosmic jive.... THERE'S A STARMAN WAITING IN THE SKY HE'D LIKE TO COME AND M- *get's KO'd by sister for infecting her with this song* -
Latt Mowne and Mott Scanely are Archrivals of unparalleled tier, their fights are heralded as the stuff of legend. By now, at their power only Bob Kerman can defeat them, but only barely so. Bob is the only one able to withstand Mott Scanely's iconic cry, the clarion call for all his minions which has been documented by the few survivors to be akin to: HULLO I'M MOTT SCANELY AND TODAY... However, Latt Mowne leaves no survivors, each and every single one of his 2 kictims has vanished from the face of Kerbin. No documentation remains aside from his supposed skill of making rockets and a mysterious hobby he calls "YouTube". What Youtube is and what is does is exactly unknown but is presumed to be where he gathers support to conceal his existence in the Kerbal world. It was truly a horrific shriek as the survivors collapsed from the trauma resurfacing, and Bob decided to defeat Mott Scanely and Latt Mowne once and for all. --------------------------------------- Bob Kerman Didn't even stand a fleeting chance Eradicated on sight.

I like Dragons and always was able to draw them well (also my nickname back when I did Martial Arts extensively was Draco, hence Draco), and one of my close relatives works on a Hypersonic project with [REDACTED ORGANISATION], which is very cool (because I grew up with engineers all around and so know a fair bit about them) which ended up with me taking the Hyper and fusing it with the first one, and out came HyperDraco.
