going to go over this.. ive been looking for help. i just finished a project, a KK add on mod with 20+ buildings ive worked on for 2 years but i need to know how to get from sketchup to KSP.

id like to use all KSP textures using the BUILTIN textures on my models, well i have to being i designed them to look a certain way, but any help or posts that can guide me to go from sketchup to blender to KSP as a end result would be greatly appreciate.

ive DM'd every person who created KK mods for help but i've never gotten a single response

the blender script pastebin link doesnt work

    Script link: https://pastebin.com/g32Pkwx9

Yeah it's quite a mess to explain how to import a sketchup model in KSP but basically this script will save you a lot of time

  2. I want to do a little dev post, so here will be just some news about how was made Aurora Space Center (and why it was a pain in the *ss) and how it will be now made today.

To give you an idea, here are the different stages for a model on Aurora:
    - Design in Sketchup -> Post-processing in blender -> Post-processing in Unity (as for any mod)

In Blender, I have to take each object (often named "Sketchup.001") and rename it to its texture (as the mod uses the game's textures).

This used to be a pain, but in 2/3 hours I could manage a static of 20 objects easily.

Problem: My statics in Aurora (the SLC-6 and the 37B) are so detailed that they contain groups and lots of objects... TOO MANY OBJECTS (2500 objects for the 37B)
As you can imagine, this process would have taken me three days.

So I decided to do something about it, and yesterday I worked on a life-saving blender script! (Link here: https://pastebin.com/bgwP1xgP)

Today, after much trial and error, I can convert a Sketchup model into a Blender-ready one in just 5 minutes thanks to this script.
This will greatly improve my desire to make more models and improve them too!

This is really cool! Do you happen to know how the footprint would compare to the 37A/B in OSSNTR? Asking because I use the katnisscape on ksrss, and I would love to replace the flat 37A/B from ossntr with yours, if/when you release it!

Thanks ! Yes it's what I aim for. I want a really good integration via these mods.  (Tbh I may work on a mod soon that called Aurora Space Center RSS Version with only decal based on satellites imagery)

Here is what it look like on my launch pad (using the old version of 37B):

@Zoeille I really enjoy this mod, the buildings look very good. I've been trying to make my own KK static buildings using Sketchup, can you explain your process for getting the model from Sketchup to in-game as a working static? Thanks!

Thanks ! I do the model in the Sketchup, then I do post-processing in blender (I just rename each objects) and then I import it in Unity using Build Tools like any other mod !

According to the RSS devs the scaling of Katniss’s cape is off slightly, Katniss did give me permission to use their assets for this project (thank you so much) so custom KK configs will come soon™.

Additionally working on even higher res textures for launchsite areas.

(don’t worry the SLF will be included)

Upper texture is old, lower is new.

Awesome, I'm working right now on KK configs for VAFB

  5. Hotfix: Aurora Space Center 1.2.1

    - Fix Landing Zone Logo
    - Fix MediumHIF Logo brightness (oops I forgot to check this one, If i've worked correctly all transparent objects are now unlit!)
    - HOT: Fix Droneship Mesh Collider

Download on SpaceDock: https://spacedock.info/mod/2352/Aurora Space Center/download

  6. Let's go !

Aurora Space Center 1.2 is out !

This release will add some contents that I'm currently testing right now. ELA-1 & SLC-37B are released but not really finished, so don't worry if they don't look complete.

The Next Update will feature SLC-37B (finished), ELA-1 (finished),  SLC-6 and its MST tower and some others Vandenberg launchpads.

    1.2: Return To Sender Update
    - Add ELA-1 (Pre-Alpha)
    - Add SLC-37B (Pre-Alpha) [Without the MST]
    - Add Return To Sender droneship.
    - Remove Factory
    - Remove "Hydrogen Aerospace" mention. Welcome "Black Space" !
    - All logos have been updated
    - Fix: Medium Light

Download on SpaceDock:  https://spacedock.info/mod/2352/Aurora Space Center/download

  7. Working on new stuff! My old drone ship was quite horrible

So I decided to model a new one ! (inspired by A Shortfall Of Gravitas)

4 names will be proposed: "Return To Sender", "Look Ma, No Hands", "A Short Hop in Space", "They Go Up So Fast"

This barge will be available on Kerbal Konstructs. Sadly, I wanted to make it also available as a part, but it will not be possible due to the use of KSP Textures (and I cannot redistribute them)

Also, you will be able to change the center logo ! For your own space program needs.

    Update available in the evening.

@ZoeilleHow goes progress? Currently creating a kerbal version of the Guiana space centre. Would you think about doing the railway tracks as statics like OSS?

Almost no progress since last year (wow SLC-37 turned 1 YR ?!) BUT, I'm currently having exams at the end of the week, so I will have some free time and I want to work on more.

No pads planned for Kourou at the moment (maybe ELA-4 one day ?, would be pretty easy)

Any chance we will see this and SLC-6?

On the next update ? Yes, I will release SLC-37 and SLC-6 (Delta IV era)

I want to focus on the Delta IV launch pad, release them, and then do a release of (almost) all VAFB pads

    VEGA!!!!!

PS: I wanted to ask, how do you transition from building these parts in blender to making them actual KK parts? Is it just configs or is unity involved cause I would like to make one for my own launch vehicle

Haha yes It's ELA-1 in the Ariane era, but I will also do this one for Vega c:

Well I can't really explain how I make these, it's somehow complicated because you have to model them and adapt them to the game but I do:

    - SketchUp for modeling

    - Blender for corrections (mergings faces, normals, rename faces according to textures names)

    - Unity (using Part Tools)

    - and then do the .cfg

I'd be interested in a version without lights, too - since that's the reason I don't use it. Here's how ELA-3  looks for me. When I need lights I use the KSC Floodlight mod so I can scale/move it.

    Details are already blown out:

Hi guys, thanks you for your report!

I updated the ELA3 launchpad with the possibility to remove the lights

    https://github.com/Zoeille/Aurora-Space-Center/blob/master/GameData/AuroraSpaceCenter/Pads/ELA3/ELA3.cfg

You just have to edit your launchpad and select "Without Lights" variant:
