Well from top to bottom and from left to right are: Cherries, Maotai (the one of the best wine in China, but I'm the only one need to drive my parents back home so I can't taste it. Damn!), Stir-fried choi sum with grinded garlic, Steamed pork belly with taro, Little oranges, Stir-fried tomato & scrambled eggs, Preserved egg tofu, Sitr-fried pork with string beans and Smacked cucumber Generally speaking, Chinese families wouldn't arrange New Year's Eve dinner menu according to what the Chinese zodiac sign is this year. The 12 zodiacs are: rats, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, lamb, monkey, chicken, dog and pig. Ordinary domestic animals, including rabbits, are easy to arrange, and rats and dogs are not impossible to eat with a pinch of nose (although I've never eaten one, and I even want to say that the number of people who eat them is actually quite small in China), but tigers, snakes, and monkeys would be imprisoned for eating them. And then, what about dragons?

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

There're two kinds of highway in China, one is the 'Expressway', and one is the 'National Highway'. The good news is those big animals is really ‘rare' to hit in the expressway in China because there are many parts of those where viaducts will be built to take straight lines as possible. But the national highway... well, my stereotypical national highway is "don't be too surprised at what you hit." And one of my father's friends bragged at a gathering days ago that he almost hit a yak on the national highway in Tibet. Guess the dog got ran over I saw was the farmer's dog near the highway. Lesson I learn this time is drive more carefully and more decisive at same time Of course, there will something unexpected. This includes, but isn't limited to, the lorries taking pigs to the abattoir with their doors didn't lock completely, resulting in pigs running on the expressway almost once or twice a year. -

Today I drove our family to another city in my dad's car. I saw the dog killed by car on the highway first time which has the speed limit of 120km/h. As a rookie driver who hasn't driven more than 5000 km, I have a question: what would be the best way to deal with this situation where I was about to run a dog over on the highway? -
The second Chinese New Year for CSS: the Shenzhou-15 crew made a celebrate video Zhang Lu: Now, the lights of the motherland are visible from the portholes. It's a joy, peace, and a steady happiness. Entering into long-term operation, the CSS manned by our three lads this year. We wore new clothes, ate dumplings and sent blessings: none of the tradition for celebrate the new year were missing! Deng Qingming: I'm sure that there are many people who are as committed to their respective positions as we are at this moment. The new journey of the new era, with you and me and others, has a dreams and struggles, the efforts and sweat of every one of us. It will certainly be a vigorous force for building a modern and powerful country! Fei Junlong: On the occasion of the Chinese New Year 2023, from our station which 400 km from Earth, we wish our country peace and prosperity and happy new year to all the people of China! *Together*: Happy New Year! Two of the couplets are partially obscured and can't be seen. There'll probably updated full picture tomorrow or in the next few days. From top to bottom, left to right are: 福 (I don't think only translate it into 'fortune' or 'wealth' is accurate), the golden age for China, 福 The blessing from the heavenly palace, Fei Junlong's name, 福, China Space Station Zhang Lu's name, 福, Year of 'Kui Mao' (癸卯年, A traditional form of Chinese chronology. That part honestly, I really need to be learned more thing on that. My stereotypical influence is that this thing can tell fortunes by some people), and the five characters at bottom are also the China Space Station.

How to calculate: any year in which the number of the year in AD is divided by 12 and the remainder is 7 is the Year of the Rabbit. (Ok, the only 'science part' is over here) The story of it is (watch out its a fully Chinese link, let Chrome help you): "The rabbit is the fourth of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. It is also known as the "Rabbit Hour", which is the time of the twelve hours of the day, from 5am to 7am. There's an interesting folk tale about a rabbit and an ox running in the Chinese zodiac. According to legend, the rabbit and the bull were neighbours and they got on well together, calling each other brothers. The ox was a hard worker, and the rabbit was a resourceful and capable, and they both made a good living. One day, the rabbit, who was a good long-distance runner, boasted in front of the ox, "I'm the long-distance running champion in the animal world, no one can beat me!" the rabbit shook his head proudly and said, "You have to be a long-distance runner to be a champion, you can't learn how to run. Besides, long-distance running requires a light body, and I'm afraid you'll never be able to run fast with your stout body." That word cool bull's ardour but he wasn't convinced. From then on, the ox began to practice long-distance running, and with a tenacious ox's strength, the ox finally developed a pair of 'iron feet'. With their tails cocked, their hooves are like the wind, and they don't get tired even after several days and nights. On the day when the Jade Emperor is to arrange the Chinese zodiac, the rule is that whoever arrives first will be the Chinese zodiac. The ox and the rabbit agreed that they would get up at the first crowing of the rooster and go straight to the Heavenly Palace to compete for the Chinese zodiac. The first time the rooster crowed, the rabbit was long gone and alone when the ox got up. The rabbit ran for a while, but when he looked back, there was no sign of any animal. The rabbit thought to himself, "I am the earliest riser and the fastest runner today, but if I get up after a good night's sleep, I will be the one to take the top spot in the Chinese zodiac. So, he fell asleep in the grass. Although the ox was lagged, its hardy stamina and the iron feet it usually practises, it made a dash for the palace of heaven first, while the rabbit was still sleeping. A rush of footsteps woke the rabbit up and when he opened his eyes, he saw that it was the tiger running past in a gust of wind. As a result, the rabbit only came fourth, with the top three being the rat, the ox, and the tiger. Although the rabbit became the Chinese zodiac sign, it eventually felt ashamed to lose to its own sarcastic old ox and came back and moved its home to a hole in the dirt. The rabbit does learn its lesson, because you can have another racing about 'Ox VS Rabbit ' or 'Tortoise VS Rabbit', the winner must be the rabbit" (How ancient Chinese parents explained to their children the strange questions their children asked about them) Nowadays it basically similar to the Western 'astrology' on a social level: you're [Enter any constellation here], then you're likely be like [Enter relevant constellation's personality trait (actually I think it's part stereotypical influence and part psychological effect, the Barnum effect)]. I have no objection to this understanding, even though it is a bit rigid and inappropriate. Because here's what I "Baidu" for "How's the "rabbit people" be like?": "He/She is a gently person with a successful career. He/she is quite but not active, lacking in thought and determination, and is prone to losing good opportunities. This person is a waste of money and has failed repeatedly in their career because of their amorous nature (wow). A person born in the Year of the Rabbit is sensitive, has a good memory and a compassionate heart. They're orderly, strong, modest, quiet, and independent, and their aesthetic sense is in decline." As for the luck... That stuff is no different than astrology. No offense but it's basically only 'referencing' when my girlfriend is looking for an excuse to argue. Similar to astrology, the zodiac has something metaphysical aspects to marriage. For example, it is recommended that a Rabbit is best married to a Goat (the latest one was 2015) and Pig (the latest one was 2019), preferably not a Rooster (the latest one was 2017).

Someone share that he took some photos from the National Museum of China in Beijing about the model of next-gen manned rocket, which was named as CZ-5DY before. It has a new name now: CZ-10! In fact, the name of CZ-10 was once in the development programme but was eventually cancelled for various reasons, just like the Shuguang Project I shared before. It was planning to achieve 50~150t LEO capacity for heavy payloads or manned lunar landing project and made its first flight in 1975. Dreams are existed to be realised. Although it's likely that the design of the rocket in 1975 must have looked something different from today, but its original intent is now being realised.

The general manager of R&D department in Landspace, Deputy Chief Engineer of Juque-2 rocket, Dai Zheng (戴政) said in CCTV's news: we confirm that the fault occurs after the second stage engine cut off and the attitude was lost at that moment. The very first source of the failure is being further identified and we will improving the next rocket based on that, which is the Y2 rocket.

So I was curious and google about "the top ten countries with highest population growth rate". Here's what I found: https://www.statista.com/statistics/264687/countries-with-the-highest-population-growth-rate/ If the map in my brain is correct, nearly all of these countries on this list are either in political turmoil or have been at war for at least the last decade. Some of them internal security situation is still volatile. In short, unless you are an explorer and a volunteer with a great humanitarian spirit, I don't think anyone wants to volunteer to live in these places. Let's talk about something happy: Ozone layer recovery is on track, helping avoid global warming by 0.5℃

High-power Hall electric propulsion systems from 510 Institue of the CASC's Fifth Academy, was completed the first joint ignited test of 100 kW level Hall thruster with high power PPU prototype. "Measured thrust of 2.1N and specific impulse of 2980s were achieved at a stable power output of 50kW from single PPU prototype." "In these tests, the performance test of high-power Hall electric propulsion system was also carried out using xenon and krypton for working substance respectively. The test results met the expected objectives. In the future, 510 will focus on the integration and lightweight design of high-power Hall electric propulsion system, heat load control and management, life evaluation and other technical directions to continue to carry out joint research and strive to achieve system-level product engineering applications as soon as possible." Ignited by xenon: And by krypton:

The weather data from the Perseverance shows that the temperatures in recent days have hovered around max. -13~-20°C and min.-84~-87°C. Zhurong currently is at northeast of Perseverance about 1760km. It probably is a little colder than where the Perseverance at. The temperature difference at this distance would be about 10 to 15°C if we look at the situation on Earth.

CCTV: Because the Queqiao-1 relay satellite for Chang'e-4 mission is nearing the end of its life. CNSA is planning to launch a new relay satellite to moon in beginning of 2024 before the Chang'e-6 mission started. It can also provide signal relay for Chang'e-6,7, and 8. The objectives of the Chang'e-6 mission are to break through lunar retrograde orbit design and control technology, lunar back smart sampling technology and lunar back take-off and ascent technology. Effective international cooperation will be carried out while realising the automatic sampling and return of the lunar back. (The link is video of this news report from the CCTV's official weibo, It's fully Chinese of course)

Tianwen-1 is back online if I understand these correctly: In fact, this is a common fault about the communication link is abnormally interrupted. As mentioned in the paper "Emergency disposal method of TT&C system acquisition under deep space long-time delay condition (《深空长时延条件下测控系统捕获应急处置方法》)" published on 25 Feb. last year, there were at least 17 times of emergency responses to abnormal communication link interruptions in deep space stations during the Tianwen-1 mission. However, the one on the surface of Mars still not "up" yet. According to Jia Yang, the deputy chief designer of the Tianwen system, during a previous education speech to youth, the rover will wake up autonomously when both of the following conditions are met: Solar panels generate energy>140W Temperature of energy equipment like the batteries >-15℃ What he said was they expect the rover will wake up on its own in December last year. But probably the weather on Mars isn't that good now. Still can't receive any message from Zhurong the rover. The latest paper from Tianwen is "Detecting the Oscillation and Propagation of the Nascent Dynamic Solar Wind Structure at 2.6 Solar Radii Using Very Long Baseline Interferometry Radio Telescope".

Think you guys know what "Hell Money" is. Today's shower thought is: the number of zeros on those 'bank notes' is increasing every year. How bad is the inflation in another world hahaha
