  1. You can also move the rocket around off center in the VAB, and that will move where your rocket appears at the tower. My biggest spaceplane so far had to be moved back a little bit.
  2. I recall the craft file I uploaded differs slightly from the video, in that I placed the RCS tanks in the back instead of the front. It should still be able to hover, though. Sometimes the planes kind of stick to the ground, even though they have more than enough thrust to hover. In that case, usually adding just enough throttle to get moving will unstick them.
  3. FRAPS sucks. MSI Afterburner Beta is free and easy to use. My first KSP videos were all made with Afterburner. Recently I upgraded to Bandicam. Yes, it\'s $39, but well worth it. Much more flexible and user-friendly than FRAPS. My most recent few vids were captured with Bandicam. This program does everything FRAPS does. It does it better than FRAPS. It has nice features FRAPS doesn\'t have. Bandicam is better. The only reason people think FRAPS is the only answer, is because the alternatives haven\'t been advertised so much.
  4. I like the TA-3. Looks very industrial Russian.
  5. These are the most detailed alternate skins I\'ve seen yet. Very nice. Thanks for the necro-bump; well deserved in this case.
  6. Yeah, I\'m very hesitant to get too involved in figuring out gliding in this game right now, because of the infinite gliding bug. Let\'s wait until stalls are at least partially modeled.
  7. Just a note that the tutorial video series is now completed, and the first post updated with links to the videos, and .craft files of the planes used. This was a very fun project! 8)
  8. Nice thinking on reskinning the stock parts. I\'d say that\'s a very good choice for a first mod. I like the concept of making these things look tarnished/rusty/corroded, but I think these could use a little more attention to detail. Take a look at photos of various rusty old vehicles; see what kind of patterns the corrosion usually takes. Thumbs down for plans to reskin other modded parts without getting permission from the original authors, though. It\'s considered very rude to alter somebody else\'s work. You should get explicit permission first.
  9. I think Jeb must be the pilot, while Bill and Bob are mission specialists.
  10. I like the notion of some kind of organized naming project, where each person would get to name one and only one place in the Kerbol system. That way, the pony lovers would get to have their Mount Fluttershy, the unimaginative K lovers would get to slap a K on something, and everybody else would get to use that one really cool name they\'ve been itching to use. Not sure how something like that could be set up, though.
  11. I don\'t know why everybody is in love with all these enormous spaceplanes. I\'m pretty sure my tiny XCART-4 design could do this, and that thing has only two fuel tanks. If I got rid of the RCS tanks and replaced them with a half-size fuel tank, I\'m 100% certain this would be possible.
  12. With spaceplanes, this challenge is so easy it\'s trivial. Launch, go suborbital, reenter, land. Launch again, point the nose at KSC, go suborbital, reenter, land.
  13. Nothing cool in Norway, in late December? Weird. Hi there.
  14. I am discouraged. I got slightly less than halfway around Kerbin at 8000m, and had well more than half my fuel remaining. So I\'m sure my plane has the range to meet this challenge. I paused the game and tried to alt+tab out for a few minutes. The game crashed. Progress lost. Now I\'m thinking I\'ll wait until we have some kind of persistence working before trying this again. >
  15. This course is all about energy management. It\'s an extremely narrow margin between too fast for the turns and too slow to stay aloft. Honestly, I love the basic concept here, and am very impressed at the creativity and thinking outside the box in making a decoupler into a race course! But... I think the idea would better be represented with an easier course to start out with. Save this track as an extreme difficulty level course for masochists looking for punishment. Maybe eventually we can have multiple tracks for a larger circuit, and use this one for the final grand championship.
  16. If I ever successfully complete the course with the stock plane, then I\'ll post a video of both of my runs: standard and free. This is a very fun challenge! Although it looks like JellyCubes is probably going to win... and if I\'m not mistaken, looking at your video, I think you flew that lap with a keyboard!? Edit: I flew a standard run of 3:01. I\'ll put up a video later. Edit again: Here\'s my video.
  17. MSI Afterburner Beta is free, and works better than Fraps for most things. To use your own design, you have to first build your airplane in the VAB, then attach the race course to it as a decoupler. Edit: Using my own design, new time of 2:25. I still haven\'t completed the course using the stock plane.
  18. After a couple hundred attempts, I finally completed the course. Using my own plane, finished in 2:30. This is much more difficult than it looks. I\'m loving it.
  19. I\'m thinking this needs at least two separate competitions. 1) Stock. Best time with the provided craft. 2) Unlimited. Go nuts and build the best racer. Edit: This is very very difficult. I think managing the camera view angle may be as or more difficult than piloting the plane. The course is definitely a test of finesse, rather than brute thrust.
