  1. But the foil doesn't heat up directly, it just sparks. Water isn't required but the foil example is probably not the best (again, correct me if i'm wrong)
  2. Isn't that different? The foil sparks because of charges building up in the metal. (correct me if i'm wrong)
  3. There's not much info about them, but they do have a website.
  4. HyPr space is a completely different company based in France.
  5. They uploaded a video of an engine test last year.
  6. Looks like France has some competition https://www.vayaspace.com/post/vaya-space-completes-first-suborbital-test-flight Also, they've already done some flight tests.
  7. Inspired by this horrible article, which includes such atrocities as "Also, the moon is what's called "tidally locked." Meaning, it doesn't spin around. This is why the same features of the moon face...", what's the worst space related article you've read?
  8. This is an actual meme that Pythom themselves posted to their blog
  9. The propellant combination is ethanol and oxygen gas which is explained in one of the videos.
  10. How long did they say they would stay on the surface for? I don't think they would want to spend a 6 month interplanetary transfer in that tiny capsule, then some time on the surface, then another 6 months back
  11. Have you tried modelling the rocket in some form of simulation software? OpenRocket is quite good and is completely free, it will give you altitude, velocity and lots of other values for different engines and can plot them.
  12. "The Mars journey itself will involve 20 Kang rockets transporting equipment into orbit" I think their big rocket was supposed to be called "Kong", but they had to stick to the Pythom tradition. Also, in the words of a certain Jeff, "Immensely complex and high-risk"
  13. I think they messed up their nozzle ratio or had some combustion instability? Also the trailer catches fire at the end
  14. "Blue Origin's lunar lander propellant MMH/NTO, an extremely toxic combination. Pythom's "green" propellant combination of furfuryl alcohol and WFNA (nitric acid) is much kinder to people and the environment and a major reason for our choice of it." Anyone else feel like Pythom is reading through Ignition! and testing the fuel mixtures as they go? "Kaplan and Borden at JPL suggested one at the beginning of 1946. This was WFNA and straight furfuryl alcohol." - Ignition, page 41
  15. IIRC the shape is only because of gravity, and the tensile properties are because of the way it's cooled.
