  1. Submitted these in another thread but since they're custom works, I figure they'll work here as well. I saw rareden's realistic productions previously and they inspired me to do some similar things, though I haven't yet figured out how to create a model from an in-game ship, so I've been sourcing them from screenies and working from there. Falling Horizon Joyride Daredevil Diggers Cliffside Rescue No Parking Zone
  2. Now this is an idea I pursued for a short time, but there were two obstacles blocking my way on that one. The first was that I didn't want to invest many many hours building the actual ship, as it would be far too huge for me to be able to build in any reasonable time. The second after that point would be the sheer amount of lag, likely system-crashing levels of it! You do bring up another point I hadn't considered though. I've seen this Whack-A-Kerbal thing, but never understood what it's for.... EDIT: Oh! Oh no, here comes the insanity! /runs off to shoot things in SPAAAAAACE!
  3. Here's what I used to get that debris cloud. I present the Salvador Dali! Since the debris is meant to represent the aftermath of the destruction of a massive generational ship, the chunks had to be a decent size and visible in at least one local group. It's inferred that there is much more debris out there, as the ship's explosion is so supposed to have happened a year ago.
  4. So I was trying to put together some source images for the next chapter in my story yesterday, and I needed a field of debris to realize the ideas I'd had for them. To help make it happen, I designed a ship composed of lots of components separated by decouplers and docking ports, plopped all of them in one stage and Hyper-edited the whole lot into orbit, (hey no way was that monstrosity ever going to make it up there on its own!) First attempt wasn't too bad, but it still kept things a little too clustered for what I was after: So I went back and tried again, getting better results: Yes, it was a lag-fest the likes of which had never before been seen on this system, but the point was to get some good shots, not to play around in it. So I have two questions at this point: Has anybody else ever built a ship designed with the specific intent to disintegrate the whole kit and kaboodle to see what would happen? And, If so, would you be willing to share it? I'd love to be able to use a couple to mix things up some more! The more varied and disastrous I can make it all look, the better! If you're willing to share your "sacrificial research vessels", I'm running the following part mods in the photo cap installation: Aviation lights B9 Aerospace KW Rocketry Lionhead Aerospace Procedural Dymanics PWings Rollkage 1.1
  5. A general rule of thumb that I try to stick to is that if I'm responding to a particular image that's on another page, I'll include that image in my reply. If there are more images in the post I'm replying to, I'll snip out the ones I'm not actually addressing, and if the reply isn't about any of them (e.g: making a remark in general that has little to do with the image content) I'll snip them all out. Personally, I'm okay with the way that reply was done. It's the ones that quote a long-run image collection in its entirety that bug me... *scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll* "Cool!" GAH!!
  6. Ah yes, but there's a very good reason for the jarring change in his personality. You may have noticed Bob trying to talk to him about it, but Jeb brushing him off or evading it each time. "Bob recognized a defense mechanism when he saw it." Each of the crew has their own issues to deal with after having experienced such an unbelievable tragedy. They went from having been born on a ship and taught they would one day lead everybody to their salvation on Kerbin, to fleeing in terror from the only home they had ever known, forever losing almost everything precious to them in the process while everybody and every thing they knew and loved was destroyed. Both Bob and Bill have lost somebody close to them in the same individual (Gindal), and are wanting to go back to the Horizon to find whatever resolution they possibly can to patch the hole left in their lives. Nelnie is coping by starting a new family, having been alone for years on the Horizon previously, but is frustrated to realize she wants something more. Mackenzie (Mac) is focusing almost all of her energy and attention on the forge (the garage), finding some solace in playing as big a part as she can in the group's continued survival and growth Jeb, meanwhile, hasn't yet faced the things that are haunting him. He's been through a great deal as well; recall his own loss on the Horizon's bridge. But, he's got an even heavier weight on his shoulders, which is at the core of why he almost seems to have a split personality. To go into any further detail delves into spoiler territory! Thanks very much for your encouragement! This is the kind of writing I really love to do most, so it's good to know I can just let all these ideas flow freely without having to bring down the Edit Hammer so heavily on them. I saw a couple of folks doing similar things with their screenshots, and thought about how cool it would be to bring elements from the game into a realistic environment, and use them to help illustrate a story that's striving to do the same thing. You can count on more of that as the chapters progress.
  7. Gives an entirely new meaning to strutting one's stuff, eh? XD
  8. Hmm... are you referring to the Kommunist kounterpart to the KSP? "Is kerbal programme of space, komrade! You join today, da?" (just messing, and I agree completely!)
  9. Come on, tell me you don't totally see him being 100% capable of uttering the phrase "Hold my beer and watch this..." with a completely straight face!
  10. I'm already keen on the factors you pointed out, but bear in mind these images weren't created just for the sake of making them; they were put together as a bit of eye-candy to be embedded with a story project. These are scene pieces, meaning the entire image is meant to have equal attention as a whole, not simply draw the viewer's eye to the ship. Think of a capture from a single frame of a movie. The image is rarely something that could ever be considered a high grade composition on its own, because it wasn't created to be that. These images I've done are similar, in that I'm not putting hours of effort into refining them to the point of being worthy wallpaper material. To this end, some things like blurring were necessary to not only help convey the sense of action happening, but also to get around some edge aliasing that was getting out of hand for that ship, making it look far too obviously fake and "slapped in" with the rest of the image. Regardless, I appreciate your feedback on these. I'm not at the level of somebody who does it for a living professionally, but I've been around Photoshop for a very long time, since v3. I'm still learning tricks and techniques here and there, so getting some open and honest input is always a plus for me, regardless of the venue in which my efforts are posted.
  11. Made these in addition to the previous ones to add to the second chapter of the Kerbal Khronicles story I'm working on (in the blog section): Lots and lots of Photoshop tweaking, toying and all-around gits and shiggles.
  12. Published Chapter 2 of Kerbal Khronicles! Also, I made these to go with the story:
  13. Alright guys, just remember you asked for it. Enjoy! (see first page for all chapter releases)
  14. Go to Imgur.com Register for a free account Click on the Images tab at top right Drag your image onto the page (it will upload automatically) Click on the image thumbnail when it shows up Click the pages icon under the line that reads "BBCode (message boards & forums)" Come back here and right-click and paste, or Ctrl/cmd-V Hit Submit Reply ??? PROFIT!! KSP is rocket science. Uploading and linking images however, is not. People have been doing it since AOL was the biggest gig around and Netscape was the browser of choice. Get up and learn a thing or two now and then, you'll appreciate having made the effort.
  15. Moholes than your m- NO!!! No I *will* not go through with it! You folks deserve a higher class and quality of puns and jokes! /runs away at top speed
  16. Do NOT EVER turn that thing toward the planet- ANY planet! We happen to enjoy the atmospheric effects, and that (fine-looking) kraken bait of a monstrosity will surely ruin the fun for the rest of us if you so much as even burp the throttle!! @_@
  17. Julian Assange system? Anybody aware of any undocumented probes out there? We need to be vigilant and beware of telemetry data leaks coming from that system!
  18. They are in the Structural category of parts. Most of them have the word "Cargo" in their name, and look like this (blue highlighted parts):
  19. Or run fuel lines to them from a fuel tank. Here's an example where I'm doing just that with those same engines on my LGV Dragon-X "rover":
  20. They're B9 as well. There are bays for all three major classes of hull. They do, however, depend on another plugin that's usually included with the pack in order for the doors to work. Could you be missing a necessary .dll and they're just not showing up because of it? Also be sure you're using the latest release (assuming you're on 0.20), or if you AREN'T on .20 and are using the latest release, that could also be a problem as well. Some pretty big changes were made to the B9 pack during its update, not just simply adding PART {} to everything.
  21. Hmmm.... Well if that's the case, I suppose I could do the final touch-ups and put this one out there then; see how it goes. Oh no, I didn't do any writing for Mass Effect, I think that story stands very well on its own for the most part. Although, I have to admit that if ME1 and 2 were like getting into a hot air balloon and discovering the vast land all around, 3 was like a continuation of that, except just as you start to catch a glimpse of something even more incredible on the horizon, the pilot decides to torch the balloon and go kamikaze instead. :/ The big stuff I mentioned working on is original material, roughly 900 pages over three books (and counting O_O) EDIT: Okay, I'm still not really sure how it will fly (so to speak) here, but I'm willing to give it a try and see what the readers think. To that end, I'm focusing on getting images put together for it, and it'll be golden!
